A Letter to Dad

Sera sighs as she enters the Owlery, shutting the door behind her and resting her back against it, just for a moment. Her eyes roam over the several owls lounging in the building, fluttering their wings, hooting, and eyeing her with curiosity. She doesn't blame them-- wouldn't blame them if they were people, either. She must look exhausted. Worn down.

Returning to Hogwarts after a long summer break felt cathartic. She thought, following her first year, she'd want a break from Hogwarts-- thought it would be good for her. But looking back, the break was anything but. Being in the same space as her brother again after a life-changing experience really exposed the depths of his envy. Moments of his cutting words and sneering expressions flashed behind her eyes.

And while she thought her parents would be more understanding, they were anything... but. Her father looked at her in trepidation, and she wondered-- still wonders-- could she blame him? She just returned from the world that he left behind, and her mother was only aware of how much information he divulged to her-- to any of them.

Though initially her first year had been acclimating to her surroundings, she feels as though she might have a better grip on things now. She grits her teeth. Truthfully, anything would be better than going back home. Winter break is a long ways ago, but she isn't looking forward to it at all. Not unless she can stay in her dorms.

Still, there's a reason she came to the Owlery, to begin with. One- for the peace and quiet it offers her, and two...

She steps up to her owl and gently secures the letter she's written to his beak. Honestly, needing to use these backwards methods of communication as a wizard- she wonders when they'll catch up with the muggle times.

"You be good and get this to my father now, alright?" She instructs the owl, before frowning. "I don't know why my grandmother would want to... meet with me, but she hasn't reached out as of yet. Still, I can do as he asks and give him reports," she sighs, then rolls her eyes. The owl hoots-- maybe in understanding, maybe not. Still, she laughs, and rubs his head with her pointer finger. "Alright, off you go."

He shoots off from the window, away to deliver her letter. She hasn't received a reply to her last letter, and it's unlikely she'll get one this time, too. But she's completed her duty.

"It's not my problem if he can't even say anything back," Sera mutters, and leaves the Owlery.
