Jade pushed the door to the bookstore open, feeling a little of the tension leave her shoulders as the familiar bookstore scent washed over her. She waved to the old lady behind the checkout counter, who greeted her with a smile. “Hi, Jade!” The woman said. “Can I help you find anything today?”
Jade shook her head. “I'm just going to take a look around,” she replied, walking past the counter and into the store proper. This bookstore was one of Jade's favorites. A place she had frequented with her parents since she was little, and recently, the place she went when she wanted to get away from her dad and that awful new house. Normally, Jade would simply wander the shelves until she found something interesting, then curl up in a chair to read it. Not today, however. Today, Jade was on a mission.
Evidently noticing she was upset, her dad has given her money to go buy books to “fill up the shelves!” of the new house. It was a rather stupid excuse, all things considered, because the new house was smaller and therefore had less room for books. It had already been a struggle to find places to put the books she already owned. Still, Jade hadn't argued, just taken the money he'd given her and gotten out of the house as fast as possible. If he wanted her to buy books, she would buy books. So many books, in fact, that they wouldn't be able to fit anywhere. Maybe that would help show her dad how pointless the move had been.
Feeling a little rush go through her at the thought of her plan, Jade set about grabbing books from the shelves. She wasn't as picky as she normally was, instead grabbing anything that remotely caught her interest. Jade also didn't get any books for her dad, like she normally would. She even made sure that all the books she picked out were books she would love, and he would never pick up in a million years. Eventually, though, Jade had collected enough books she was forced to find a place to set them down. After looking around the nearby area, Jade found a couple of chairs, and promptly dropped her stack of books next to one. While I'm here, I might as well read one… Jade thought, the cover of the top book of the stack catching her interest. It'd keep me out of the house longer, and it does look pretty exciting…
Mind made up, Jade grabbed the book and settled into the armchair. She opened the book and began to read.

The sound of someone’s voice startled Jade out of her reading.
Jade felt her pulse spike, and did her best to calm her suddenly racing heart as she looked up from her book. Standing nearby was a girl about her age, with vibrant red hair. She was looking at Jade with an expectant sort of look, as if she had asked a question… A question that Jade had not heard at all, because she had been so focused on her book. Oh, crap. Crap, crap, crap… Okay, Jade, focus. She couldn’t ask the girl to repeat herself -- well, she could, but it would be really awkward and probably come off as rude, so she didn’t want to -- which meant she had to figure out what the girl had been asking.
Come on, this isn’t that hard… The girl was standing there uncertainly, and the seat next to Jade was still open, so… maybe it was that? Yeah, that’s probably what it was. Right? It's a pretty safe guess, Jade decided. If she got it wrong, she would just… have to deal with the awkwardness of the situation as it came. Which wasn't ideal, but… she could probably manage if she had to.
“This seat is free,” Jade said, gesturing to the seat next to her, so the girl wouldn't get confused. Hopefully I got it right, she thought, waiting for some sort of response from the other girl.

Epona replied with a discreet but very friendly smile, "Thank you." Epona sensed the young woman she was talking to was hesitant or embarrassed. Was her presence there a problem?Epona hesitated for a long time, looking at the young woman, then finally decided to sit down next to her. Once comfortably seated, Epona quietly placed her books on equine theory beside her seat. She began to devour her lovely book on "The History of the Horse." After a few minutes, Epona glanced at the time on her pretty silver watch, where the hours ticked by beneath the head of a piebald mare. It was no use; she still had many hours to go before seeing her aunt again. Time seemed to pass at a snail's pace. She decided to continue her captivating book. After numerous attempts to keep reading, she decided to stop. She felt uneasy and couldn't get back into her own world. She looked around at the beautifully displayed window, the slow-moving book links, the saleswoman climbing the ladders separating the rows of books like an acrobat walking on a tightrope. Then her gaze shifted to the young woman who seemed so familiar.Epona liked her new friend; she really enjoyed her serious yet fun side, but what she loved most about her was the warmth she shared with those around her. Epona had a strong urge to speak to her, but she especially didn't want to seem rude or disturb her reading. After all, they barely knew each other! She finally decided to talk to her.[color]"Hey, sorry to bother you, but I feel like I know you. Are you in a famous magic school? If so, which house are you in? Can we be friends? What are you reading? Sorry to bother you."
