Robin tapped her foot to the beat of her thrumming heart in anticipation as she waited for her project partner to arrive. She still couldn’t remove the memory of seeing her name listed next to the Hufflepuff she’d begrudged for quite some time now due to her consistent ability to outshine Robin at every turn. Veda Lunar - that tiny girl was a thorn in Robin’s side during their shared classes. Robin wasn’t the kind of girl who really paid much attention to her peers during class, despite being an observational freak - she was always busy paying attention to what was happening in the classroom. That was, of course, until Veda gathered all the attention in class. Robin would sneer when she saw the short girl with mousy brown hair smile triumphantly at being called on in class. The girl, in turn, would send glares right back her way when Robin received the praise. The expectation amongst the class for the first to finish their potion would always be one of those two girls, and the pompous walk to the table that followed when being the first to turn in their assignments.
Oh, Veda wasn’t alone in this unspoken rivalry. No, Robin from the beginning knew she couldn’t hide her irritation every time the Hufflepuff girl was praised. Robin most certainly couldn’t hide her smirks when called on over Veda. It was a continuous war in her head against the Hufflepuff that Robin couldn’t seem to quite get past. Robin didn’t like being less than kind to people, but school was her territory. It was difficult not to get possessive when your territory is encroached on by an unfortunately talented, intelligent, and beautiful young girl. Robin didn’t hate the girl, but she certainly didn’t love her either. She knew from the moment she saw their names together that her grade for the end-of-term project was on the line.
Why not anyone else? Robin bemoaned to absolutely nobody once again.
Robin sat in the back corner of the Hogwarts Study room, often used by prefects to hold detentions for students. It was always less populated than the library, and it would allow them the ability to potion brew and properly communicate with each other. Robin was determined to make this partnership work - a simple begrudgement wouldn’t hold her back from her usual Outstanding in class. From her half-hidden position, she hoped that she’d be able to watch Veda as she walked into the classroom before the girl noticed Robin. She didn’t know this girl outside of the equally fervent glares they’ve sent towards each other, and Robin was as mistrustful of people as one could be - she wouldn’t be caught by surprise by anything. In front of her sat an empty potion cauldron, ready to be filled with the ingredients to brew a Confusing Concoction. Robin busied herself while she waited by pulling out the necessary ingredients to brew the potion - one eye on the door at all times.
