Saying good byes to her family at the beginning of the year was always a sad thing. Especially this year, Ellie wished she could just say home. But her parents had had taken Ellie and Tiana to the train station, must to their wishes to be kept home. So there she was, running into a wall as nonchalantly as possible. The hustle and bustle of the train station with parents crying and kissing the tops of their children's heads, some kids trying to stay latched onto their parents and some trying to escape. Ellie lingered with her parents to say good bye and then went on to the train to get a good spot. Her sister quickly got on with some friends, but Ellie lingered. Sure she had made some friends, but they had other friends to, maybe she just wanted to sit in a car, with someone random.

Ellie reached a compartment with one person sitting in it. She paused for a second, it was early enough that she could go and find one by herself, but there was a high chance of someone joining her anyway, she might as well join this car.

Opening the compartment door, hoping it wouldn't squeak, Ellie poked her head in, "Hi," She said to the boy sitting there, "Is it, uh, okay if I sit here?" She gestured to the bench across from him.

Ellie had one hand on her trunk, prepared to move if he told her too.

β„aspian’s gaze flicked up from the window at the sound of the door sliding open. A girl stood there, hand on her trunk, looking like she half-expected to be turned away.

He blinked once, then let out a small huff of amusement. β€œDepends,” he said, voice smooth but edged with dry humor. β€œYou planning on snoring? Or telling me your entire life story before we even leave the station?”

The corner of his mouth curved, taking the sting out of the words. He nodded toward the bench across from him. β€œGo on, then. It’s empty.”

As she stepped inside, Caspian shifted his trunk slightly under the seat, giving her more space. The glass was still cool against his temple, but he straightened a little

β€œI’m Caspian,” he said after a moment, as though formal introductions were somehow necessary.

He tilted his head slightly, studying her with that casual mix of teasing and observation he often carried. β€œSo… strategic seating, or craving a quiet corner? Not that I blame youβ€”this side of the train is mercifully calm compared to the chaos out there.”

He tapped his fingers against his leg thoughtfully. β€œI should warn you, though… I have a tendency to judge people who dislike sweets. Chocolate frogs, pumpkin pasties… if you skip them, we might have a serious problem.”

The boy responded to her asking to sit there by asking if she was going to snore or tell her whole life story.

"Don't worry, I won't sleep or talk your ear off." Ellie said, not that she really felt like talking about her life story or doing anything in general if she was being honest. Silence sounded perfectly fine for her. Actually, she wished she wasn't even here right now so... But anyway, she sat down on the opposite side of the boy and put her trunk above in the overhead compartment.

Ellie stared out the window watching as her parents faded away as the train left the station. She sighed, time for a long train ride. She couldn't wait to get to Hogwarts, settle in and sleep. Sleep sounded good and Ellie hated sleep!

"Ellie" Ellie said plainly in response to her name. She looked at the boy- Caspian. He has white blond hair and brown eyes.

Ellie thought about what the talkitive boy said next, "More a quiet corner I guess but... I'm fine with talking."

Ellie realized something, talking, helped to get rid of her worries and made her forget about all that had happened during summer break. Maybe talking is good then if it helps me to take my mind off everything.

Lost in her thoughts she almost missed Caspian's next response. "Huh? Oh yeah, don't worry I love sweets! Especially Bertie Bottie's Every flavor beans! My uncle works for them so I get to try all the new flavors! It's on my list of things I want to do, all the way at the bottom!"

That was the most Ellie had said all train ride, it felt good to think of her other side of the family, the side that wasn't missing something.

β„aspians’s lips twitched at Ellie’s sudden spark of energy. For a moment, she’d gone from flat and quiet to lit upβ€”just from talking about sweets. He tilted his head, a flicker of genuine intrigue sparking across his face at Ellie’s mention of Bertie Bott’s.

β€œHold on,” he said, sitting up a little straighter. β€œYour uncle works for them? That’s practicallyβ€”well, it’s not world-changing, but it’s something close.” His mouth curved into a sly smile. β€œDo you get the normal new flavors, or the experimental ones they’re too afraid to release to the public?"

When she mentioned it being on her list, all the way at the bottom, Caspian gave a low hum of thought. He tapped his fingers idly against his knee. β€œAll the way at the bottom, hm? You say that like you’ve actually ranked your life ambitions. What’s at the top, then?"

He leaned back, letting his head rest against the corner of the seat. β€œStill. Every flavor bean… that’s a dangerous kind of determination. Takes a certain mindset to bite into a random bean and not immediately regret your life choices.”

He tilted his head again. β€œSo which one nearly finished you off, then? Everyone’s got oneβ€”like the flavor that they absolutely hate. Mine was… earwax. Absolutely vile."

The train jolted gently as it picked up speed, the station slipping further and further behind them. β€œAnd before you ask,” he added, mouth quirking, β€œno, I don’t snore either. So I’d say we’re off to a promising start.”

His gaze flicked out the window for a moment before returning to her. β€œSoβ€”what’d you get up to this summer? Besides plotting your conquest of Bertie Bott’s, obviously.”

What had Ellie thought about not feeling like talking? As soon as Caspian mentioned candy, she instantly took back what she had said.

"Pretty much any new flavor although I love tasting the wacky ones first since I got sweet ones after" Ellie said. It was pretty cool. She got to test all sorts of crazy flavors before anyone else could even see one.

Ellie blushed at Caspian's question of what was at the top of her list with what she wanted to be but she replied anyway. "Please don't laugh. It's going to sound stupid." She took a breath before continuing and telling him. "It has always been my dream to be musician or a dancer. Please don't laugh! I know it sounds like some little kids dream and I probably won't even end up doing that."

Ellie blushed agian. Why had she told him that? She had never told anybody before, not even her parents or sister. Her parents would never approve and it felt to personal to share. So what made her say it to this boy she had just met?

"Flavor I hate or dislike.. well, I've had so many I don't like, that it's hard to pick one. I do have to say, hay was pretty gross! I also happen to like soap..." Ellie smiled.

She liked all the sweet flavors, of course, and soap was the one flavor some might call disgusting that she loved. Ellie nodded to his comment about not snoring Good. To be stuck in a train car with someone who snored... no way did that sound good. This train ride was sounding good. Then, Caspian mentioned what had happened Ellie's summer break. Was she going to tell him what really happened? Having a good summer and then her Grandema dying? Or would she tell him a tiny thing.

"Oh, I went to America"
Ellie said quietly, deciding on the latter. "How about you?"

β„aspian’s gaze flicked from her face to the window and back again, his head tilting slightly as he listened. β€œAll the wacky flavors first, huh?” he murmured, his tone a mix of amusement and quiet approval. β€œBold choice. Slightly recklessβ€”but I can respect it.” His lips twitched into a faint smirk. β€œSoap, though? Really? Most people gag at that, but you actually like it. Points for originalityβ€”and for having a stomach made of steel, I guess.”

He leaned back in his seat, letting the corner of the compartment cradle his head, the faint hum of the train filling the pause. β€œA musician or a dancer,” he repeated, his voice softer now, more thoughtful. β€œYou’re worried I’ll laugh? Not happening. Honestlyβ€”that’s impressive.”

As the train rattled beneath them, he glanced out the window. Outside, the countryside blurred past in streaks of green and gold. Her quiet mention of America brought his attention back. Caspian let out a soft whistle. β€œAmerica, huh… sounds like a proper adventure." he said, leaning back, his tone curious. "Did you do anything thrilling? Or just see the sights?”

He shrugged when she returned the question. β€œMy summer was… less exciting, I think. Spent most of it sleeping, being lazy, or dodging my grandmother’s attempts to decide what I’ll be doing ten years from now. Lots of polite nodding. Lots of tea I didn’t ask for.” His mouth curved wryly.

He looked at her again. β€œStillβ€”between thesoap beans, your dancing dreams, and your American adventures… you’ve made my summer sound boring.”

Ellie smiled. A stomach, made of steel? Her? No way! But it felt nice coming from him. "Is there any flavor most people dislike, that you adore?" Ellie asked quietly. While the gross ones, where not her favorite, they sure where the most fun to try.

And when he didn't laugh at Ellie's wish to be a musician or a dancer, Ellie felt instant respect towards him. Her parents would laugh, her grandparents would laugh, and her sister would say there was no way she would do that. But still, they all encouraged her to practice dancing and playing her instrament. It's a hobby, not a job her dad had once said, when she brought up being a dancer. They supported everything else, but this. How about you? What do you want to do? Ellie returned the question.

"Oh, I hung out with my friend who lives there." Ellie said plainly not elaborating on the rest of her less then pleasant summer, "That's real though, I I tend to sleep and be lazy during summer when I'm not on vacation. You know, tea sounds good right now, you didn't happen to bring some did you?"

She smiled. While he might not think her summer was boring, it certainly was a roller coaster, filled with steep drops, unsuspecting turns and hippen upside down twirls.

β„aspian’s brow arched slightly at her question, eyes flicking toward the window as though considering it seriously. β€œA flavor most people hate that I actually like?” he echoed.

β€œGrass.” It slipped out almost without thought.

It wasn’t a joke. Grass was oddly grounding taste, it had a strange sort of nostalgia to it. The memory of back home, the smell of rain when he and his siblings would get drenched outside. He could still hear his grandmother shouting through the open window, equal parts scolding and fond. β€œEveryone complains it tastes like β€” well, it tastes like grass. I find it oddly… clean.”

He gave a quiet huff of breath. β€œGuess we both have an odd sense of taste.”

At her question about what he wanted to be, he gave a low hum, his gaze dropping to his hands. He didn’t have an answer that sounded as good.

β€œWhat do I want to do?” he repeated, voice quieter now. His fingers brushed absently along the edge of his sleeve. β€œHonestly? I don’t know.”

That was the truth, Caspian didn’t know what he wanted, at least, not yet.

β€œSomething where I get to make trouble and still call it work, I hope though." He gave a shrug, a faint grin tugged at the corner of his mouth. β€œMy grandmother’s convinced I’ll end up in curse-breaking, or something equally respectable. Something with a suit and a frown, probably.”

When Ellie joked about tea, it tugged a faint grin from him. β€œDid I bring tea?” he repeated. "No, tragically not." He leaned back against the seat, smirk curling wider. β€œShocking, I know."

He tapped his knee idly. β€œYou look like someone who would have brought tea though,”

"Grass? Ellie echoed "That''s... not what I was expecting" Grass was like her least flavor bean, hay but in a more healthy form since hay was dry grass. I think...

"Huh, i mean that makes sense but like- I can't judge you. I like the soap flavor so yeah." Ellie remarked with a smile

Bertie Botts every flavor beans truly were her favorite wizarding sweet. Forget chocolate frogs and their cool cards (Even though she did have quite a large collection of those cards.)

The tone seemed to get softer when they started to talk about the future. Ellie nodded, sometimes, adults didn't get what there children wanted to do, they wanted them to do something that would be for them and for their children to almost be mini them. "You should do something for you that would be fun. You could... get into like shows or somethings." Ellie said "What am i talking about? I don't know what you would want to do of course." And I just met you like thirty minutes ago. Ellie thought.

"That's a good idea! Maybe next train ride I'll bring tea packets. Not sure how to get the warm water. Do you think the trolley lady has any hot water? Ellie asked, half serious, half joking. It would be cool. Tea always made Ellie feel comforted, when she would she her grandma and Ellie had been sad, they always had bright orange tea and it made Ellie feel better. Now, there would be no more orange tea. At least not with her grandmother. Ellie's happy demeanor fell for a moment, but she quickly replaced it with a smile and a "What's your favorite tea?" to Caspian.
