Open - August 2025 - Charms
The start of the school year was less dramatic than what he thought it would be. Theophilus awoke to things tapping on the windows of their crowded room, creatures giggling and swimming away when he rose up to look to find where the noise was coming from. He groaned under his breath, realizing that going back to sleep would not be wise as the sun was already reflecting through the water, so it must be close to breakfast time anyway.

He rubbed his eyes, sitting up in bed still as he tried to force himself to wake up and get up. When he was at the manor, one of his house elves would pop in to wake him up in the morning, letting him know what the plans for the day were. At Hogwarts, it seems he would either be woken up by the lake creatures, or maybe there was a spell to help him. He’d have to look in the library to see if he can find something…

As he got his things ready for the day, his robes hanging so not wrinkles on his watch, he hummed softly. After he was dressed in his green robes, dress shoes in place, and his hair gelled down so the curls were less chaotic; Theophilus threw a pillow at his dormmate and friend, Blaize. “Up and Bright,” He said with a smile, “Classes start today and you will want to get some breakfast!” His other dormmates had already left them or were ignoring them, so Theophilus just got the honor of waking the one.

Soon, he was scarfing down his eggs and butter on rye, his attention solely on the fact he was soon to start his first classes. He wondered if he would enjoy them or if they would bore him. Theophilus had liked his lessons with his father, but that could have just been because he liked the company of the older man. His grandmother’s teachings didn’t really feel like lessons, so he didn’t see how he could compare them to see if he would like them or not. He hoped he would like them, he had seven years to do them, after all.

The Great Hall was quieter in the morning, compared to the night before. Theophilus figured that was because so many others had already came through and left to their first lessons or maybe they were exploring before classes. He had no clue what the upperclassmen could be up to, but he guessed if he had someone to come to school for, he would want to find them and maybe have a chat.

The young boy ate in silence, his thoughts the only thing he had to listen to that first morning. He had Charms first, which he believed was maybe on the 3rd, or 4th, floor.

After breakfast he made his way to the 3rd floor, just as other began making their way to their first classes too. As the hall filled, Theophilus grew confused, which door led to his class?

"Oh gosh, I'm going to be late!" I whisper-shout to myself as I begin rushing up the stairs while looking at my self-made map that a third-year had helped me make earlier at breakfast.

As I rush up the stairs, I notice the turn I'm coming up on, so I glance down at my map once more to make sure I choose the right door. "Okay, it's the left one..." I quickly mutter to myself, but as I take a sharp turn around the corner, I realize someone is standing there.

My eyes widen as I almost run into the boy, "Sorry!" I exclaimed rather quickly as I just bumped his shoulder, but continued rushing past him towards the left-most door, trying to make it to class on time so I don't make a bad impression on my first day.

Lucky for me, I enter the charms classroom right on time and take a seat at an empty desk in the middle row, near the window. There's an open seat next to me, but I pay no mind to it, just happy I made it on time, no longer remembering the boy I just practically shoved going up the stairs. I sit down at my desk and begin opening my textbook to the assigned page, readying myself for class.

Harry walked calmly but inwardly excited about his first Charms class, a subject he had dreamed of finally learning his whole life. He woke up very early that day, chatted with a friendly Slytherin girl earlier, and was one of the first to have breakfast. He spent the morning reading some books to pass the time until finally the time for his favorite class arrived. Harry was walking to the classroom on the second floor; he already knew his way, having passed by there to memorize the location and therefore knew how to find his way. Of course, he had help from the prefect and some older students. As he continued walking, he noticed a boy wearing the school's formal attire in the colors of Slytherin house who seemed to have just arrived and was wondering which door he should enter. Well... if that wasn't it, then he had noticed something unusual about one of the doors, at least, because he stopped abruptly to analyze it. A few seconds later, Valencia Rosegold, the girl he had spoken to in the morning, was passing by in a bit of a hurry, to the point that she lightly bumped into the Slytherin boy. Upon entering the door after... After apologizing to the boy, the girl entered the left door, which was the correct one, by the way. After that, Harry moved away from some Ravenclaws he was with and approached the Slytherin, who seemed surprised by the girl's sudden appearance.
Well, people are excited for classes, don't you think?
Harry asked, giving the boy a light pat on the shoulder.
You should go in soon too, the teacher could arrive at any moment!

he said excitedly as he entered the left door.

Evaline was late. Again! She flew off her bed, and got ready in record time, 4 minutes and 7 seconds. And...yes, she counted. She yanked on her black polished ( but somehow scuffed at the edges) loafers, and grabbed her black and pink leather messenger back, covered in tiny lace bows. She had gotten it her sister-in-law, Alara, when she had successfully hexed someone while she was sweet-talking them. A worthy achievement, if she might say so herself. She had ripped the bag in about 4 places within 3 hours of having it. Her uniform was rumpled, and her tie was loose, but she still managed to look superlative.
She caught a glance of herself in the mirror before she left. Her hair was a a wavy black and pink mess. She pulled it into a small half up-half down pink lace bow. Evie even bothered to wink at herself in the mirror before sprinting to the Charms classroom, She ran into about 3 people, and didn't bother saying sorry. She was late. They would understand...right? She slowed her run to a small strut as she reached closer to the classroom, her bag slung over her shoulder, and her cat-like dark green eyes scanning everyone who walked passed, before speeding up again. As she rounded a corner too sharply, her messenger bag smacked against her hip, and her bow bouncing.
Evie skidded to a stop just before the classroom doors, bent forward slightly with her hands on her knees, catching her breath. She gave herself exactly three seconds. She straightened, smoothed her sleeves, lifted her chin, and grasped the door handle. She slipped inside with as much grace as someone arriving late could possibly manufacture. Evie went and sat into the first seat she could, next to a dark-haired Ravenclaw boy.

Harry had just entered the classroom; the professor hadn't arrived yet. After a few minutes of sitting and chatting, he decided to pick up a book on magical theory from the library. It was a somewhat advanced book, but it was allowed. Harry found himself engrossed in the pages. The professor still hadn't arrived. After a few minutes of reading, he noticed someone suddenly entering the room. They seemed to be in a hurry, as if they had walked all the way down the corridors to the classroom. Before looking fully at the girl, he glanced at the book again before focusing his attention. Upon closer inspection, he realized he recognized the face. It wasn't unfamiliar; on the contrary, they had walked together to the kitchen a few days earlier—Evie, the Slytherin girl who almost lost her precious necklace to a Niffler that had escaped from the Department of Care of Magical Creatures. When he noticed the girl sitting next to him, he felt somewhat pleased, as someone had probably recognized him, or perhaps had just sat there by chance. Harry looked at the girl and struck up a conversation.
Ah! Hi Evie! Late, huh? Or maybe you were just in a bit of a hurry! The teacher hasn't even arrived yet, try to catch your breath and get comfortable!
said the boy excitedly, not knowing if she would recognize him but still inviting him to a nice casual chat until the start of class.

Evaline was slightly zoned out, running the recent events over in her mind. Yeesh. She cannot be late again!
Hm- what was that? Oh hi, Harry! Yeah this morning was crazy hectic. I didn’t get much sleep since I was up reading an intriguing…novel.” Evaline explained, her pale cheeks tinting with a slight pink.
Cher, one of her best friends, a muggle-born, had given her the book. Cher had always chased Evie down and forced her to read every book just so she could rant to her about her favorite character, or even some fictional guy. Evaline found it ridiculous…ly amusing. Cher had a way of making the most peculiar things seem absolutely adorable!
” So how are things with you, Harry?”Evie smiled when she saw Harry. It was nice to see a familiar face again. She smoothed down her skirt, which was a few inches above strictly proper, but eh- who really cared like that?
Her thoughts drifted back to her haphazard pre-hogwarts life. She just sighed, thinking about it. When life was as easy as putting a balding potion in your older brother’s hair remedy while he showered. ( Which she had done countless times). The good ol’ days. She was jarred out of her thoughts.

Harry noticed the girl's thoughtful expression, realizing she seemed somewhat uneasy at the same time. He didn't know what she was thinking; perhaps it was a homework assignment that needed to be handed in? Or maybe she was thinking about her family? Harry observed the book that had slipped slightly out of her bag. It was a peculiar one, unlike the ones usually found in school libraries or any ordinary wizarding library. Harry then remembered Evie's close friendship with a Muggle girl. Harry decided that perhaps now he should comment on it, but with a little more empathy.

And there!"What book is that? I've never seen it before," the boy asked, hoping she would tell him a little about the book and perhaps, eventually, about the Muggle friend she was in contact with.

II also tend to read some books; I remember most of them, having already flipped through their pages. Many are about stories and history, but I especially like those about the theory of magic; they fascinate me a lot. But most of the textbooks are always very good to read!
The boy spoke enthusiastically, but for a moment he wondered if he shouldn't leave Evie alone with her own thoughts.
AhSorry, I'm talking too much. Well, if you want, you can go back to your thoughts, I don't mind!

Evaline turned rigid when Harry mentioned the book. And then she saw it, poking out of her her leather bag as if it wanted to say hello. Oh crap.

She turned beet red, staring at it, then in a flash, shoving it back to her bag, muttering, " not this time!" under her breath. Damn it! She leaned on the bag, turning back to Harry, trying to act casual. Which she failed horribly.

" Er- It's nothing, Harry. Don't worry about it. V-very boring...muggle things..." She lied through her teeth. The book was amazing, superlative, you might even say. But... it didn't deserve to see the light of a classroom, in a sense. It was very...vivid. Yeah. Definitely not for school use. Cher had her face buried into it, for weeks, re-reading it. Evaline even had to stop her from running into a few walls. Evie glanced up at the boy, and his friendly expression. Yeah. He definitely didn't need to know about the book. Half of it was gruesome murder, muggle murder, and it was way messier than what was normal.

" No-no, you can continue Harry, I don't mind." She smiled warmly. " So-er- tell me how things are going for you?" She asked, a desperate attempt to change the subject.

Harry noticed the girl's hesitation and decided to shift his attention.
-AhI'm doing great! Classes have been amazing and I've seen a lot since I arrived at the castle! You know, you don't need to be ashamed to talk about Muggle things, I've lived with some of them and even know a little about their culture, I know their most popular sport and I support a Liverpool team, I also know a lot about their music, my favorite band is Muggle, you know?-
He said to the girl, wanting to make her more comfortable about Muggles even if he wasn't talking about the book.

-They are very interesting! My father always told me that Muggles and wizards have a lot in common, of course they never thought my father was a wizard, being an Auror he knows how to go unnoticed among them, most of them are like us and are very kind, it's a shame we have to live so secretively-
After speaking he comments to the girl
-But and that Muggle friend of yours, what was her name again...it was...Cher! I remember, what's she like? Do you talk about many things?
- He said trying to start a conversation with the girl about the Muggle friend he had mentioned earlier.
