The Baking Nook  Booth   Open

Welcome to The Baking Nook!
Flour dusted the floor of her booth as Minnie prepared her last batch of dough until people started arriving. She hated when her dough stuck, so this was the one time when messiness was allowed-as long as she cleaned it up after completing her bake. Baking was the time that she could stop trying to live up to all her and her family's expectations and just relax. That was partly the point of her booth: to give others the chance to find relaxation as well. Whether the people wanted to eat some pastries or learn to bake them, she hoped that it would be a relaxing and fun part of camp, and a break from the chaos of it.

With a final kneading of the dough, she declared it ready to start getting shaped and decorated. This was a batch of gillywater cookies, a recipe she had created herself. It was supposed to taste like if gillywater was a cookie, and she wanted people to think of swimming in the summer when they ate them. For her, baking made her want to help people make new memories and remember old ones.

Minnie sprinkled on some ginger and added a few gillyweed and other water-like decorations with her frosting. Once the decorating was finished, she put the pan in the oven and sat on a chair in the booth, smiling. Hopefully the booth would soon be surrounded by people who wanted to eat and make some tasty treats.

She surveyed her booth, doing a last check that everything was in place. The oven was full of her cookies, and it seemed to be working right; her pastries made before were all in the right area, ready to be given to hungry people; her small decorations that showed a vibe that they were walking into a cute and cozy bakery shop were all there; and her supplies for making more baked goods were neatly set up, primed for people to start baking with them. She was ready for people to start showing up!

The oven dinged, signaling that her cookies were done, just in time to put on a rack to cool before people would start showing up. This way, they could have fresh baked cookies coming in! She was prepared to start wowing people with her booth.

Lucille hated cooking. Or, to be more specific, she was scared of getting burned. Even so, she knew she had to learn it and at least be a little decent at it, especially now that she would be on her own at Hogwarts for the first time. Her distaste of cooking didn't mean she would say no to food, though, and so, when the lovely scent of baked goods wafted through the grounds, Lucille immediately followed it.

She arrived at a cozy booth, displaying an assortment of baked goods, and an oven running in the back that seemed to be making more. Running the booth was a girl, a bit older than Lucille, and she, unlike Lucille, seemed to love baking.

Lucille said a quick hello before looking at the treats available and, to her surprise, a section where she could bake the treats herself. And right when she was thinking about how she needed to learn, too! No doubt about it, she would, and so, Lucille looked up at the girl, feeling a lot more confident about the idea of cooking or baking if she had a bit of help.

"I'm terrible at cooking, or baking, but perhaps I could try this?" Lucille asked, pointing at the option, a little uncharacteristically shy at her admission. "If it's alright, of course. I'd like to learn, but I really will be no help," she said with a little laugh.

Minnie smiled as she noticed a younger girl approached her. She seemed to be shy, but nice, and had no self confidence whatsoever when it came to baking. She was sure that it could change with a quick bake of some cauldron cakes.

"Hi there, it's nice to meet you! And of course you can try baking a cauldron cake, I'm sure you'll be much better than you think!" Minnie told the girl, giving off a much calmer vibe than she really felt. "My name's Minnie, what's yours?" She asked as she started to grab the assorted ingredients and appliances needed for this bake.

When she had selected the right ingredients, she laid them out so that they would be easy to reach on the other side of the booth. Finally, she grabbed the cauldron cake recipe and handed it to the girl. "So it sounds to me like you're a beginning baker, which is super cool! That means that I could help you out more with the bake, but only if you want it." She hurriedly added.

As she watched the girl, her mind went to the first time she baked, when she was a young girl of six years old. She had been wandering around the house when her nose caught the scent of freshly opened vanilla extract. She walked to where her mom was baking brownies, and had begun to help her bake. She hadn't been good at first, but she eventually learned to bake quite well! Now, watching this slightly younger girl at her booth, she hoped the girl would learn to love baking too.

"Please," Lucille said with a sheepish laugh at the offer of help. "I'll certainly need it." She let Minnie guide her where to go and give her instructions when she was confused, although her eyes seemed to return to the recipe every five minutes, determined to do the best she could. "I'm Lucille, and I really love how you've done your booth." Her confidence increasing with each step, and beginning to relax at the help Minnie offered, Lucille returned to her usual chatty self, albeit a weaker version of it. Her words were fewer than they would have been had she not been trying her best to read measurements, stir batter, and all sorts of other things.

"I was just thinking about how I need to learn to cook, or bake. It's scary to me, simply from the idea of messing up and burning myself. And, lo and behold, I come across your booth, and I thought, must be fate. I have to try it now." Lucille's words were more like murmurs, absentminded, as her concentration mainly remained on the baking.

"I certainly hope these turn out as delectable as your premade treats look, otherwise I'll just be disappointed at not buying one from you," Lucille said with a laugh. "Oh well, fruits of my labour, I suppose," she said with a dismissive shrug. She didn't seem bothered by the thought of messing up the baking; in fact, she expected it from herself. Lucille didn't exactly have the best track record in the kitchen.
