Jules and his family were again in Diagon Alley that afternoon for some other errands, and while they where here they decided to stop at the Cauldron Shop to get the supplies the twins needed for their first year. “You are old enough to find everything by yourself! Here’s the money for both of you, me and your mother will be in the next shop.” Their father said, and after checking that they had everything they needed to buy the supplies left the store.
Jules and his sister shared a puzzled look before splitting up and check the shelves to look for what they needed. They also split the list, so that each of them could find a piece and leave the store quicker to go meet their parents again.
And so there he was, a rather slim ginger boy looking rather lost and concentrated into searching for what he needed, with his teal gaze on the list his parents gave him and the shelves of the store, occasionally peaking at what his sister was doing to see whether she was having better luck than him. Of course, she was already distracted, not even looking at her list and trying to join some other students’ discourses to make some new friends.
Jules sighed and kept looking at the list. “Aw, come on. Why are all the shops hiding the first-year supplies?” he mumbled a bit frustrated, as that wasn’t for sure the first time he tried to find something and ended up wandering around clueless.

Victoria was walking through Diagon Alley — one of the rare places her parents actually allowed her to visit. It was much more crowded than she had expected. Much more crowded. And the brunette girl wasn’t pleased about it.
She sighed and slipped into the emptiest shop she could find. A deep breath. Finally, a bit of peace. She tucked a strand of her wavy hair behind her ear and rubbed her temples. Even though she was inside, the muffled noise of the crowd outside could still be heard.
Victoria glanced around — there didn’t seem to be much to do in the shop. Maybe she should just head to a café or, at the very least, a bookstore.
Just as she was about to leave, she paused. Her cold, distant blue eyes landed on a ginger-haired boy who looked lost and overwhelmed. His face, scattered with tiny freckles, seemed to shimmer like stars in the light reflecting through the shop window. He might’ve been a first-year — Victoria didn’t recall ever seeing him at Hogwarts before. Or maybe he was from another school altogether.
Thinking he might need help, Victoria calmly walked over to him. When she heard what he said, she bit the inside of her cheek to stop herself from smiling, then quickly composed herself and murmured — her voice calm and gentle, though the distance in her eyes remained clear:
"Can I help you?"

The white outfit, the fair skin and the light, almost blonde, eyelashes were really contributing to that starry shimmer he was bringing with every footstep around the shop, wandering through the shelves with those teal eyes that observed all the different items, looking for the ones he and his sister needed for school.
He didn’t want to admit that he was lost again, determined to find at least something by himself before asking for help, and while still submerged in his own thoughts, the voice of another girl entered his bubble.
“Hm?” he sharply turned in direction of the voice, stuttering in surprise as the figure of the girl met his gaze. “O-oh. I’m…” he started replying, quickly moving his gaze away to some random shelves, taking just quick glances at the girl who looked a bit older than him, not more than one or two years.
“I’m looking for the supplies for the first year.” he finally added with a very strong french accent after a short sigh to regain composure, and instinctively his gaze went looking for the sister, who was happily chatting with someone else and looked at him just for a brief moment, enough for him to try and continue the conversation.
“I think I can find them by myself… I just need to find the right shelf.” he nodded and looked again at his list: he may have stated so, but it was clear that he would have spent way too much time without a real help.

Victoria had to stop herself once again from smiling at the boy’s distinct French accent. There was something unexpectedly cute about it, though she wasn’t about to say that aloud. Her lips twitched slightly, threatening a smile she quickly masked with a small breath. The boy looked a little startled—maybe even embarrassed—and she instinctively pulled back some of her usual coolness, softening just enough to not overwhelm him.
He seemed like a first year. New. The slight way he held his list—creased and clutched too tightly—along with the hesitant edge to his voice gave it away. He was probably trying not to look lost, but Victoria remembered that feeling all too well. There was a certain stiffness to being new in a place where everyone else seemed to know what they were doing.
She tilted her head slightly, studying him for a moment before offering a response. She kept her voice gentle but neutral—still cautious, still a little distant, but not unfriendly.
As the red-haired boy continued talking, something shifted in her posture. She straightened slightly, hands relaxing at her sides. So it was his first year, like she thought. The way his eyes darted between items, how he stood just a little too close to the shelves as if to avoid the crowds—it reminded her of her own first visit here.
He was nervous. She could see it in the way he kept glancing down at his list like it might change on its own. And for some reason, she felt the need to make things a little easier for him.
“I understand,” she said, her voice calm and low. “The same thing happened to me last year. There’s so much stuff, and figuring out what you actually need can get really confusing. I remember spending half an hour in front of the parchment section because I couldn’t figure out which size was ‘standard’.”
She let a brief smile slip through, her one sided dimple appeared, more to reassure than anything else. Then, after a second’s pause, she reached out her hand to look at the paper he held—not abruptly, but carefully, giving him space to decide if he wanted help.
“May I see your list?” she asked, blue eyes meeting his with quiet steadiness. “Maybe I can help you sort through it.”

Jules tried his best to relax seeing how the girl in front of him showed a small smile and acted cool like she was totally in her element. He didn’t want to give the impression of a small and lost kitten, but as much as he tried to, he undeniably resembled it. He should have known better, he wasn’t new to magic after all and in fact he had his entire family being pureblooded or magical creatures, so it wasn’t like he had never seen that shop before.
And yet, here he was, looking like a startled deer with his white list of supplies to be found in his hands, exchanging weird looks with the girl who was trying to help him. She looked a lot more confident than him, even though her word were still rather impersonal and distant, but he didn’t mind it. In fact, he probably preferred it that way.
He had to say something to defrost his body somehow, as he tilted a bit more to the shelves almost as if he wanted to merge with them and become part of the shop itself, and while he kept his eyes on the list and glanced just few times to the girl, he finally spoke.
“Ah- really? Is it that common?” he asked, seeing how she was relating to his experience, and trying to understand if she said that only to reassure him, and not make him feel bad about getting lost. On second thought, Jules thought she had nothing to gain from making a fool out of him, but he still kept his defenses up.
“Yes, um… that’s exactly it. I’m not quite sure what to get. And… I really wanted to manage it by myself but I think I’m lost.” he babbled after glancing her once again and seeing her smile and her hand reaching out for the paper in such a careful and slow way that made it only natural to pass the list to her. “So… are you a second year?” he deduced from her “last year” she must have been a first year the year before, then proceeded to look at the shelves in silence, ready to follow her to the supplies he needed.
