You could have fried an egg on the walking path thanks to London’s broiling humidity. Late July was probably not the best choice for a visit to her hometown, but what were you to do? The sites and attractions of London weren’t as eye-catching as Sage recalled, more like she was dragging her feet along pretending to be excited.

Down in West London for a day of supposed fun, Sage packed herself and her family up in Christopher’s little blue car. Christopher and Grandpa Lyser sat up in the front, chatting quietly about the difficulty that comes from reading a map. Kora was smushed next to Sage in the back, both their legs sticking to the leather of the seats.

“How much further?” Kora muttered, a gaze of disgust on her face.

“Should be just around the corner….”

Parking down alongside the footpath, the Willows and the one lone Lyser piled out of the car. Crawford’s, a place Sage had yet to visit, loomed ahead. Christopher led, opening the door with the air of a gentleman. “Stop scowling, this is meant to be fun,” he chastised.

Sage only crossed her arms tighter. “It’s not like I asked to be here…,” she mumbled, slipping through the open door.

Crawford’s looked like it was straight out of a fantasy novel. Books galore and the heavenly scent of baked goods wafted through the air. Even Kora who’d looked down in the dumps since their arrival at the train station looked mystified.

“Welcome in!” called a friendly looking blonde woman who Sage estimated to be somewhere in her thirties.

Grandpa Lyser offered a polite wave to the woman. “I’m goin’ back to check out the cakes,” he announced, followed closely by Christopher.

“Go on,” Sage insisted to Kora. “I’m sure they’ve got something you’d like.”

Left alone, Sage turned to the plethora of literature she was facing. Everything from classics to a good thriller seemed to be in stock. Now if she could just find that one book she’d been dying to read…
