Social constructs really were simple to cheat, Aleks thought. If you truly wanted to meet unfamiliar faces for a new school year, all you had to do, was gather the ones who shared your values and interests!
This exact mindset had led the Slytherin to spend the first days of his second year constructing a plan for a ‚Truth or Dare‘ gathering.
For a change, Aleks had poured more energy and motivation into it than he had for the entirety of his first year combined. He’d evaluated locations for suitability, organized snacks, and finally scribbled information onto scraps of paper to recycle them into DIY-flyers.

Soon after and with a written plan tucked under his arm, he‘d enlisted Aiden Sinclair. The adonis of modern days was his roommate and friend. Whether by Mere-Exposure effect or by fated force, the origins of their friendship should rather not be explored. That aside, enlisted was really too strong a word. It was more of a mutual agreement!
While Aleks distributed the flyers across random tables, sideboards, and two walls near the Slytherin and Hufflepuff entrances, Aiden was tasked with doing the same for Gryffindor and Ravenclaw.
Granted, Aleks didn’t actually believe anyone from Gryffindor or Ravenclaw would show up. In the back of his mind, the usual semantics about those houses flickered. Along with the rumors and stereotypes about the nerdy Smurfs and the testosterone-fueled cats, it all painted a clear picture: they surely would be too snobbish and self-righteous to join in anything a little more questionable.
Especially this, since the flyer explicitly listed the place, time, date—and in thick ink: may not be suitable for the faint of heart.

Lost in thought, Aleks patted one of the chip bags sitting on top of a crate beside cookies and neatly wrapped sandwich slices. Glasses and bottles were arranged on the ground next to it, decorating the whole setup to appear more organized than it really was.
He sighed, pulling his gaze away from the snacks. On one foot he turned briefly his upper body to peek behind him.
Over the railing, the four o’clock sun still hung high on the horizon, shining down on their makeshift venue. The lake glittered in the distance, and the treetops reflected the last bit of early September’s summer warmth in golden shimmers straight from the leafes.
Aleks liked this place.
For a moment, he even considered making the bridge his new bedroom—dragging out a blanket and lying here with his thumbs tucked behind his head, hoping no prefect or teacher would catch him later. A longing clawed on him, for more than his own bedsheets at the Slytherin bedroom. But who was he to linger on feelings on a day like this?

Silently, Aleks turned to face Aiden. There were still a couple of things they needed to sort out. One idea in particular had taken his principles hostage, keeping them at gunpoint for an entire day.
“They could show up any minute now... Maybe we should talk about how to start,” the Slytherin began. Aleks slipped both hands into his uniform and pulled out a small bag and a piece of rope from the pockets inside the green layer.

First, he held up the bag. A little breath of wind made the paper edge quiver, filling the quiet between them with a soft rustling sound.
“The disgusting ones from the Bertie Bott’s,” he explained. “Maybe if someone eats all of them, they get to start…well, that’s the safe option... Honestly, I’d much rather use this one!”
Aleks set the bag down casually on the crate they were treating as a table. The paper bag threatened to fall over but was generously caught by the chipbag.

A grin crept onto his lips, the corners of his mouth curling up in charismatic arcs.
With his left hand, he held the rope out to Aiden. It wasn’t thin, but definitely not the thickest thread you could buy at a hardware store either. At least in his thirteen year old hands, it felt heavy and sturdy enough.
While speaking, the Slytherin flicked it left and right like a snake savoring the anticipation of the day.

“I mean, nobody is ever out here on the bridge with enough students around to keep someone from falling... Maybe someone would dare to climb up on the railing and walk across for a bit? We could tie the rope around their waist, and if he—or she—really falls… uhm well…oh, come on, we’re strong enough! We’d manage it. What do you think?”
His blue-green eyes glimmered, curious for Aiden’s opinion. If his facials had subtitles it would read in bold letters that he loved the idea.

The wind swept over the bridge again, a cold caress brushing his brown hair to the side like a strict parent who tries to tell them off from afar. However, the thought that someone would have to show some real courage was exciting to the Slytherin. Perhaps if indeed a Gryffindor showed up, they could proof themselves!

Aiden hadn't exactly volunteered. No matter what Aleks told you. Aleks had approached him sometime after breakfast with the kind of manic energy that usually preceded regrettable decisions, and by the time Aiden realized he was agreeing to help, Aleks had already shoved a pile of wrinkled flyers into his hands. Something about Truth or Dare, cross-house mingling, and a bridge.

He didn’t protest. At least not verbally. But having him run across the castle while his friends assigned himself the dungeons- where they could be found regardless- earned him a dangerous glare. Still, he still accepted the flyers with an unnecessarily aggressive tug, and had begrudgingly gotten to work. Aleks was his friend — or at least, they shared enough quiet nights in the dorm and strange conversations for it to count. And truthfully, Aiden didn’t mind helping. Not when it was quiet work like this. Folding flyers, sticking them to walls, quietly watching other students glance at them and then keep walking without having to talk to anyone. If they tried, he did as he usually did: ignored them and kept on walking his way.

He didn’t love the idea of people climbing on railings. But Aleks was Aleks — dramatic, charismatic, and too persistent to argue with for long. Aiden’s role was more like quality control: making sure nothing involved actual death or public humiliation. Besides, the guy had clearly put a lot of thought into this. More than Aiden had expected. The food setup, the view, the timing — it was weirdly well done. And maybe that made him want it to succeed a little, too. Aiden wouldn't tell him that, however.

Of course, it could still turn out to be an utter fiasco. Depending on who Aleks had invited. Aiden had unfortunately not had anything to do with the guest list. He'd kicked half off them off the list if he'd knew. That's probably why Aleks kept it a secret until the last minute preparations before the guests arrived. Aleks had some questionable ideas. A sure as hell way to get them all kicked out tomorrow, if something went wrong.

He stared at the so-called rope for a minute. “…I think you have too much free time,” he said flatly, eyes flicking from the rope to his face. He wasn’t annoyed but there was clear skepticism in his tone, the kind he didn’t bother hiding when he thought something was a terrible idea. “Climbing railings? With a rope you found in a drawer somewhere? You do realize that if someone falls, we’re the ones who get expelled and blamed for attempted murder?” Knowing the guy, he'd most likely find that funny.

Aiden sighed. “Let’s start with the beans. If someone throws up, that’s still better than a concussion. And if a Gryffindor wants to walk the bridge anyway, we’ll tell them it was your idea.”

It has been a week and a half since the school year started and Sinclair had been feeling a sense of loss. Loss of past friends, loss of family, but most annoyingly a loss of feeling. This numb ache has been irritating, making her feel that there's something off with her. The 12 year old had felt as if the world grew colder, quieter, yet louder at the same time, as if the air prickled her wherever she went. Numb, yet on edge.

This sensation didn't seem to be going away, and, with thoughts muddying her head she had decided to go out for a walk after class. Amongst students and their little friend groups and cliques, Sinclair stood alone at the flyer-covered wall near Gryffindor house. A truth or dare meet up in two hours. Great, another one of these events. She'd seen other copies of the same event notice strewn about the school and had not been very interested. Sinclair turns to leave, but observing the students in their own little groups around her in the hall made her just a little more aware of the lack of people she has in her life, even though she'd been here for a year. Her parents' voices echo in her mind, Don't be a recluse! Sinclair sighs inwardly, her expression slightly doubtful and turns to the flyer again, ripping it off and shoving it in her pocket. I don't have anything to lose.

Two hours pass and she arrives at the scene on time, having changed out of her uniform. There are just two people at the bridge- the organisers, perhaps? At least... this place seems like it could bring forth a little excitement. Sinclair walks up towards the two boys, her hands in her pockets, footsteps quiet. Her light hazel eyes watch their dynamic- they knew each other, and seemed to be close friends. Which means... she is the third wheel right now.

"Are you two the ones who put those flyers everywhere?" She asks, expression neutral and detached.

Since the start of her second year, Victoria had decided to spend most of her days in the library, especially since classes hadn’t properly started yet. She didn’t have much else to do, and books were one of the few things that could ease her boredom.

As she made her way toward the library with an astronomy book in hand, her mind was completely preoccupied with curiosity. She didn’t care about the whispers of the students passing by or the gossiping groups leaning against the corridor walls. A friend had recommended this book, and Victoria was eager to dive into it. Once she stepped into the library, the dim light shining through the windows hit her face, causing her to squint slightly. She tried to ignore the brightness and walked toward the table in the very back. Hardly anyone ever sat there—it was comfortably outside everyone’s range.

Victoria was about to sit down when she noticed a flyer on the table. Tilting her head slightly, she leaned in with interest. Maybe someone had left it there by mistake?

“Truth or Dare?”

Victoria frowned slightly. What was this? She’d never heard of it before. Was it something from the wizarding world? Probably not—her family had never mentioned anything like it. Maybe it was something Muggle-born students had brought in?

Still, her heart fluttered with a thrill of excitement. Learning something completely new? Count her in.

She bit the inside of her cheek to suppress a smile and carefully examined the flyer, committing the time and location to memory.

Oh, the game had already begun.

Victoria’s cold, doe-like blue eyes widened slightly, and she left the book behind on the table as she began to run. She doubted anyone would come to that corner anyway. She hated being late—her family had raised her to be punctual since she was little—and now her head was filled with worst-case scenarios. What if the game had already started? What if everyone had already bonded and formed groups?

When she finally arrived at the given location, she let out a quiet sigh of relief. Only three people were there.

She recognized two of them from last year.

Aleks Drašković. They’d met during a rule-breaking group event last year, and Victoria had to admit—he had a cool and easygoing vibe. She didn’t harbor any negative feelings toward him.

Aiden Sinclair. They had an awkward first interaction during a Potions class in their first year. Things had ended fine, but they weren’t close enough to be called friends. Still, Victoria could tell he wasn’t a bad person deep down. Knowing two of the people here made her feel a little more comfortable.

She gave them a small, brief smile, the dimple on her right cheek appearing. Her cheeks were flushed from running, and her wavy brown hair was a bit tousled. As she tucked some strands back into place, her eyes fell on the girl standing nearby.

Damn.

She looked so cool.

Had Victoria seen her last year? She was sure she would’ve remembered someone like that.Still, Victoria wasn’t the type to show her emotions easily. She composed herself, letting her blue eyes return to their calm, cold state.

“I hope I’m not late,” she said softly, but loud enough for everyone to hear.
“Um… does anyone know how this game actually works?” She had some clues about the game, of course-the name alone gave her a general idea. She swallowed, hoping no one would think she was dumb. She would've learned more about it if she'd known about the event earlier-but here she was.

The second year started off better than he could have imagined. Gabriele had been hanging out- AKA copying homework with Luke when they'd stumbled upon one of the posters advertising some sort of Truth or Dare game. Or was it a party? Then why the fuck the viaduct of all places? He didn't fucking know, didn't fucking care, but he'd be there. Gabi had started his own little rebel club—a group for people who didn’t give a fuck, were adrenaline junkies, or just wanted to prove to themselves they weren’t boring as hell. But they hadn’t met up since the start of summer, and he was seriously missing some acting. This was perfect. Potentially.

With an impish smirk, he'd glanced over at Luke and he'd somehow convinced his prim housemate to come along. It had been more like a dare for him to come, to see if he had the balls to pick anything else but truth. That was two days ago. Gabriele showed up to the viaduct alone because he'd headed straight there after grabbing a smoke by the edge of the forest first, but he was curious to see if he'd show up or not.

Gabi was not the first to show up at the dusty old bridge, but the gathering was still small. Four other people were there already. He tried to make out the shapes of them as he approached, hands stuffed inside his pockets. None wearing hufflepuff robes, at least. Gabriele couldn't help but feel a tad bit disappointed. There was still time, however. This couldn't be the only people. That would be a more boring party than his birthday last year when he was stuck in his bed with the flu for two weeks straight. Could he have gotten healed sooner in the hospital wing? Probably. But then he wouldn't have had a good reason to skip class.

The Italian recognized two of the people present, both of them from his rule breaking club; Victoria and Aleks. Well, he knew Aleks for several reasons. From his club but also for climbing the fence to his house and dumping a bag of chips in his lawn. And ripping his pants in the process.

Everything had been caught on camera. His parents had not been impressed, briefly debating whether or not to call the cops. But calling the police on a pair of kids was kind of pathetic, so in the end, they’d done nothing—except hit him with, “This is exactly the kind of people we try to keep out of this house,” and, “Great, now the neighbors think we’re raising a delinquent.”

Meanwhile Gabi had been in absolute shambles watching the footage. Hell, he was kind of impressed to the lengths this dude went for him. From stalking him, finding his house and then delivering snacks with a performance. And most importantly, he got to eat the snacks at the end of it! His family wasn't starving him. But there was definitely a lack of unhealthy (yummy) things in the house. None of the kids were even allowed McDonalds under their roof. They were THAT picky.

Safe to say, Gabriele was not surprised that this whole thing was organized by Aleks. "Of course it's you." He announced his arrival if they hadn't heard him stomping already. "At least you're wearing pants this time."

With Aiden’s green eyes fixed on the rope, Aleks was already bracing himself for the triumphant fanfare of an opinion. In his mind, the trumpets and drummers had taken up their positions, ready to announce something momentous. However, nothing particularly remarkable happened—just those green beautiful eyes, calmly watching the rope in Aleks’ hand. The wind caught it in a gentle sway, making it dance where it dangled from his fingers. Its shift and turns let Aiden‘s stare to follow suit, light bouncing back and shimmering within the green color. Somewhere in between of watching the shift, Aleks felt doomed.

Aiden’s actual reply didn’t come with any emotional flourish and neither stopped Aleks spiraling fixation on those eyes: “…I think you have too much free time.”
His friend lifted his gaze, and their eyes met right in that liminal space between a stupid idea and a perfectly accurate observation. Aleks did, in fact, have far too much time. Homework was only skimmed, books were read loosely, and his blanket was regularly flung around the shared bedroom space until it ended up sprawled across the floor, curling around Aiden’s bed leg like some needy pet. The kind that seeks comforts anywhere but home. Despite the flat remark and uncomfortable feeling in his stomach Aleks couldn’t help smiling back at Aiden. A friendly warmth rose behind his eyes, curving his mouth into a grin that admitted agreement. He gave a small shrug, just as Aiden added—voice dry—that it probably was a rope pulled from some random drawer, then asked whether Aleks was aware of the potentially fatal consequences of this idea. They really ought to start with the beans instead, his friend concluded. The poor opinion on the matter started the fanfare of joyful tunes. The entire orchestra began to hum peacefully at Aiden being just Aiden.

“I didn’t pull it out of some random drawer,” Aleks explained, tilting his head to the side with an almost innocent slant as he studied the familiar dark hair on his friend’s head. “I specifically looked for it, saw another student with this great specimen, and then stole it out of his cupboard. With the best of a thief‘s intentions.”
His gaze lingered on the way Aiden’s strands shifted in the breeze, softly in the same dance that matched the rope’s. It was no mystery to the student how much he enjoyed his best friend‘s curls. They had something adventurous in their lengths, as if a lifestyle of secretly wild ambitions hid between the hairs. The place felt twice as appealing all of a sudden, perhaps he really should move onto the Viaduct?

A stranger’s voice pulled Aleks straight out of focus. The music in his head went silent, leaving only the whistle of wind skimming along the cliffs below them.
“Are you two the ones who put those flyers everywhere?”, she asked.
The question hung in the air, neutral, as if it were simply a fact in the waiting room for confirmation. Surprise captured the smile at first, but curiosity coaxed his eyes to shine. Aleks turned his gaze over to the newcomer. Her sharp facial contours practically begged to be traced out with a ruler—precise in a way that made him think of geometry homework he’d never finished. Her pale eyes resembled the ones of a cat. Fitting, he thought, studying the girl’s distant expression. He couldn’t help comparing her to the strays that loitered around Portsmouth, staring at you in perfect indifference until you dared step too close—then grimaced angrily back at you as if you’d personally disgraced their family name and enslaved their prized house cow!
Aleks wondered, with a flicker of too much interest, whether she owned a cow as well. The thought amused him more than it should. It helped his grin escape the shackles of suprise until he was openly beaming at the pale girl. “Yes! Welcome.”

It was a relief to see students drifting in to their location. The Slytherin boy lowered the rope in his hand, just as, from the corner of his eye, he caught sight of a familiar figure. The wind seemed particularly fond of her dark hair, combing through it in restless currents, or at least he assumed as much based on his own mess of a hairstyle.
Aleks turned his eyes, dipping his head in a nod to Victoria as she joined them.
“I hope I’m not late,” she noted, dimples of a previous smile disappearing off her aristocratic skin. In this second, Aleks’ shoulders eased, regretting that he might have missed witnessing that smile.
“You’re not,” he replied, still smiling comfortably “Right on time. Good to see you again, Vic!”

Afterall, he’d last seen the elegant girl at Gabriele’s Troublemaker Club. Speaking of the racoon-ish devil, the overlord of all things troubling arrived. The delicate silhouette gave him away even before Aleks could see the face beneath the wildly tousled curls. Gabriele announced his presence with a confident, “Of course it’s you.”, aimed at Aleks.
A grin spread across the Slytherin‘s face. With a soft nudge of his elbow, he pressed his arm lightly against Aiden’s side. “That’s the homeowner,” he whispered without tearing his gaze away from Gabriele’s refined features. Only for Gabriele’s remark about his lack of trousers to send an embarrassed heat flaring over the freckles on the back of Aleks’s neck.

“Yes—wait, how do y—” He was just about to ask how Gabriele even knew about his fence-driven accident, when he noticed an unfamiliar boy standing nearby. With a small, bookish wave, the boy lifted his hand to greet. Aleks assumed he must have come with Gabriele—after all, they were standing close together and arrived at the same time.
The Serb’s eyes studied his face. Like a little angel, the boy looked as if he’d been sketched straight out of a handbook for perfect Hufflepuff students. The bright blue eyes alone were enough to make the creases at Aleks’s sleeves feel uncomfortably pronounced, as though a conscience had slipped into the scene just to accuse Aleks of not being good enough for this bridge. The sentence spread its legs right across the aisle of his thought‘s bus: This boy is surely going to hate me…
It was like looking in a mirror, if a mirror was a portal to an oposite dimension where everything is turned upside down and inside out.

Aleks lingered another second. Silently he was hoping the wind would ruffle the Hufflepuff boy’s hair enough to drag him onto the same playing field of disarray. Victoria asked if anyone actually knew how to play Truth or Dare. The Slytherin was too distracted to answer. His thoughts orbited the stranger in the yellow tie as if the boy became his personal pet-peeve of a mystery—how he’d arrived with Gabriele, why he looked so sweet yet so impossibly tidy, as though he’d tumbled off some assembly line manufacturing the ideal son before sneaking into Hogwarts!
Of all people, it was precisely that boy who decided to speak. Naturally, he did so with clear pronunciation, each syllable softened by gentle intonation. It would have startled Aleks far more if he had suddenly started growling a vocabulary fit for some poverty-stricken street rapper.
And yet a small knot settled in Aleks’ throat as the ideal son began to explain how the rules worked. He glanced over to Gabriele. Did the Italian boy like people of this kind? Perhaps the comment on his pants was meant maliciously. Aleks raised a brow and observed. The cause of his current misery left his spot and sat down on the stone ledge of the bridge. In a childish second of idiocy, Aleks’ wrists tensed at the thought the angel might forget to unfold his hidden wings and simply plunge to his death.

Perhaps it was only now that he processed what Gabriele had said in greeting. The wind whistled and the angel‘s eyes widened in surprise, asking what pants and who they spoke of.
If there ever was a perfect moment to make a good impression—or perhaps the worst one imaginable—this was it! Aleks smiled a little less confidently than usual, looking straight at the Hufflepuff.
“He spoke of me..… and thank you for explaining the rules. It's actually really helpful to hear it all summarized again…” He has to give him that.

Sinclair saw the way his wide grin grew, and wondered if she had something on her face and was being wordlessly mocked. Surely not? Why else would her appearance garner such a huge smile? Cold, light hazel eyes look through him as if everything about this boy could be accessed in a manner as mundane as a shopping list, though it did not reflect reality. A small, polite smile briefly reflects upon her lips instead. Sinclair casts a brief glance towards the one next to him... There wasn't too much of note. Both boys were somewhat conventionally pleasant to look at. Sinclair did not know anything more about them and their dynamic beyond they were the type to host a Truth or Dare. So.. possibly nosy, curious daredevils.

The girl turns her posture as more students arrive one by one. "Vic", he called her. Sounds like a nickname. A soft-spoken girl, reserved, around the same height as me. Something about the girl's mannerisms and way of speaking suggested a certain air of restraint about her.
Then another. A boy... Seemingly careless, very short, and loud: a brief judgement made due to his heavy footsteps. Compensating? As the distance between them closed, Sinclair's nose subtly twitched as a light breeze brought the scent of cigarettes from him. ...Unpleasant, but not really any of my business.
A third arrived, unmistakably Hufflepuff. Smooth, soft, like he'd just hopped out of a renaissance cherub painting. He looked....radiant. Sinclair watched him with nothing more than a clinical observation, then glanced at the little interactions between the group. She leans her back against the edge, resting her arm on the stony surface, warmed by the afternoon sun.

All of them have history with each other. Or at least know of each other.
What catches her attention, however, is the way the Serbian boy lingers on the golden cherub, distracted. That tenseness in the Serbian's neck when he hears him speak, and tightness in his wrists when the cherub sits on the ledge do not go unnoticed by Sinclair despite the blank expression in her eyes. She eventually follows his gaze to the smoker of the group, before taking a deep breath and exhales silently, looking away to briefly detach herself. She does hear about ripped trousers but decides it's probably a private matter. Due to the lack of context, she finds she doesn't have a logical reason to react.

For a moment she feels a little out of place, not quite recalling any of these people's faces. Might as well introduce herself.
"...I don't believe we have met before," her eyes flit between the students, before resting on Aleks. She gives the host a nod, "I'm Sinclair Carver. Nice to meet you." Polite. To the point.

Nova practically glowed with excitement as she walked to the Viaduct. She had seen some flyers around which had said something along the lines of ‘Truth or Dare’ and immediately felt curious. Just a few weeks ago when she was telling her father about her secret adventure to Hogsmeade, he had told her to be more careful. He hadn’t said anything along the lines of ‘Don’t break the rules, Nova’ so she had assumed she was in the clear.

She was pretty sure that her mother wouldn’t be so approving, and decided against telling her. Not that she’d ask about it, in Nova’s opinion. Her mother had been so distant lately, the few hours she spent at home being used to stress over what she called work but seemed more like she was trying to hide something.

Pushing away her thoughts, Nova took a turn down a corridor and arrived at the Viaduct. In the middle of it, she saw multiple students standing around idly and making conversation. She slowly made her way down towards them, her hair ruffling in the wind. She wasn’t necessarily afraid of heights, but staring down into the gorge left her with a feeling in her stomach she didn’t like.

She could see it was a group of around 6 or 7, the boys outnumbering the girls. She couldn’t recognise anyone there. She waved awkwardly as she reached the group of people, trying to make her presence known. “Hello!” she greeted, gaze flicking between all their faces. “I saw the flyer for Truth or Dare here, have you started already?” Her tone was light as she spoke, the excitement obvious. Truth or dare—how bad could it be?

Whatever lame excuse Aleks had about the rope, Aiden hoped the Serbian didn’t actually expect a change of heart. He rolled his eyes at the feigned innocence on his face. The only thing missing was a jutting bottom lip. It might have been an endearing look — on Aleks, at least — but it didn’t change anything. It was still a terrible idea. It would probably not be the last time he reminded him of it, either.

Aiden turned his head toward the first arriving guest. Each one would be a new surprise, and he meant that dreadfully. The girl — tall for her assumed age and wearing a severe expression (though it might’ve just been her sharp features) — was unfamiliar to him. In other words, it could have been worse. Glancing at his friend, he noticed that he was staring at the girl in a not very socially acceptable way. They both must have noticed (it was not discreet) but said nothing. In the end, he was used to Aleks behaving like that. Doing things like staring inappropriately at people, like he didn't give a flying fuck about what anyone thought of him or who was uncomfortable.

There was something quietly refreshing about that, sometimes. As long as it wasn't Aiden who was suffering.

Aiden let Aleks do the talking as usual, which he preferred, while he himself stood relaxed by his side, observing as every new person dropped in. The next arrived in a heap, though clearly not meant to be together. His posture stiffened when he saw that one of those people was Victoria Blythe. The only thing he could think of was their misfortunate collab in potions last year. They had technically ended on good terms, but to say that he was thrilled to see her would be a severe overstatement. His expression didn't change, however, but inwardly he cursed both Aleks and himself for not intervening in the guest list sooner.

Aiden didn't have anything against Victoria, really. He just didn't think this was her scene. If she was at all like last time he'd seen her, she wouldn't let anyone get even a scrap or cut without fussing over bandaids and people getting hurt. He could handle the micromanaging once, maybe, but if he heard “Are you okay?” one more time, he was going to lose it.

Still, she was here now — and there was nothing he could (or would) do about it. Aleks was on nickname basis with the girl. Aiden gave him a narrowed side-eyed glance at his fiend. If he caught it: a warning. He was not happy with him for not sharing this piece of information with him beforehand. At least then he would have been prepared for an evening of awkward side-stepping. He’d be cordial, though. Just not more than that.

Among the other guests were two petite Hufflepuff boys, complete opposite of each other. One had light-colored hair, looked neat and clean: Cute. Meanwhile the other was dark haired and looked like he just rolled out of bed. And maybe took a detour to a smoke square before he ended up here. The scent itself, especially out here in the open bridge, didn't bother him that much- if it hadn't been for the fact that it reminded him of his dad back when they still lived together. He used to smoke heavily, and the scent was familiar and brought up memories he rather keep buried forever.

Another person that knew Aleks personally, of course. His friend nudged him in the side, whispering in barely contained excitment, “That’s the homeowner,” which made Aiden take a closer - skeptical - look at the messy boy. "Him?" He asked in disbelief. If you squinted, sure, he had a kind of subtle charm — the sort of thing only someone like Aleks would obsess over to the point of breaking into someone’s house. Still, he didn’t exactly look like someone who lived in one of the most fabulous mansions in Hampstead. Then again... looks could be deceiving. He supposed.

Compared to Aleks, Aiden was not surprised - but no less amused - when the 'homeowner' called out Aleks revealing state in his garden a few months ago. “Told you they had cameras,” Aiden mused, barely stifling a laugh. At least he could relax knowing that the boy didn't seem to have been freaked out by his behavior. A miracle, really. Any sane person would have gotten a restraining order. Maybe it was a match made in heaven, after all.

“Um… does anyone know how this game actually works?”

The question came from Victoria herself. Comical, considering the nature of the game compared to her gentle and careful nature. The urge to roll his eyes and give a snarky comment was almost too strong to resist. Luckily, someone else spoke up sooner so he didn't have to sully the mood before the party had begun.

Once the rules were repeated and Aleks had been publicly embarrassed, the serious looking girl introduced herself. "...I don't believe we have met before, I'm Sinclair Carver." Even if she was looking at Aleks when she said it, Aiden thought it was polite to introduce himself too. Half of the people here had no idea who he was. "I'm Aiden." Simple as that.

aspian hadn’t planned on attending.

He’d seen one of the flyers a few days ago—half-crumpled and barely clinging to the wall near the Slytherin common room, like it already regretted its existence. Truth or Dare it had said. Not for the faint of heart. A dramatic tagline, all things considered.

He didn’t usually pay attention to student-made events, but something about it had caught his eye.

The wind up on the viaduct was just dramatic enough to suit Caspian’s mood. He paused at the edge of the bridge, one brow faintly raised as he took in the scene ahead: snacks scattered in a vaguely organized pile, a circle not yet fully formed, and several people already mingling like they all hadn’t just been thrown together by a piece of scrap paper.

Caspian had shown up anyway.

He walked with unhurried steps, sleeves rolled up neatly, the late afternoon light catching faint silver threads woven into the cuff of his shirt. He was late. Did he care? Absolutely not..

He didn’t recognize anyone here—except Nova.

He stopped a little apart from the circle, close enough to be included but far enough to avoid anyone trying to sit next to him without permission.

“I assume we haven’t started yet?” he asked, tone neutral, cool, with just a thread of sarcasm. “Shame. I was hoping someone had already jumped off the edge or confessed to a murder.”
