The Sorting Ceremony

Eleanor stood, nervously looking up at the huge, wooden doors that lead to the Great Hall. The other first-years around her were mumbling to each-other about their houses. Eleanor didn’t exactly know what house she wanted, maybe Gryffindor or Ravenclaw. The doors suddenly opened to reveal Professor Lear. Eleanor jumped in fright.
“We are ready for you. Follow me please.”
They stumbled their way through the doors and looked up to see a ceiling enchanted to look like a cloudless, starry night sky. It was breathtakingly beautiful. Eleanor walked past four hugely occupied tables.
“I wonder how we’ll fit!” mumbled an extremely freckled boy next to her.
“Alright!” Lear called over the voices, “Get into a line and I will call you up alphabetically.”
It took about ten minutes for the people in front of Eleanor to be sorted. The next thing she knew, Professor Lear called out her name.
“Nightshade, Eleanor!”
Eleanor’s legs felt like jelly as she walked up to the stool. She sat down and the old hat was placed on her head. It was surprisingly heavy.
”Hmm, okay, a love of reading and a smart mind. Oh! And a great ability for sports. Determined to prove yourself…bold…there is only one place for you…

“GRYFFINDOR!”

Eleanor ran down to the Gryffindor table and slid in place. Cheers had erupted from the table and everyone closest to her were patting her on the back. Eleanor was over the moon.

If your not scared, you not very human. And that’s a bit problematic for everyone.
