Hi, everyone! So alot has happened, and I've realized that poetry is a great way to talk about things (especially teenage heartbreak)
I've recently been working with a mentor/teacher this summer who is helping me with my writing, as college is coming up (omg send help I swear I was a kid two days ago??) and she really would like me to publish my works. I think I would like to go to college for literature (or maybe forensics, as I've been in a medical academy for 7 years)
anyways, here are some poems I've written whilst navigating heartbreak.
Here is a small backstory:
Also, there are 13 poems which I will link here:
Maybe - falling in love with someone new is exciting!
Lovely fool - it's easy to believe that lovebombing is genuine love!
break- what would you do if you were finally happy, but had an ex who's life was at risk because of your happiness?
untruths- when they move on so fast, it makes you question everything. Especially when she looks nothing like you.
grapevine- getting back with an ex is nice, until you start to hear 'rumors'
rules - getting cheated on sucks
numb- part of having major depression and (yikes) childhood trauma, means losing one person can throw you into a dark hole.
grapevine pt 2- its hard not to wonder what your ex is saying about you, but sometimes we just don't need to know.
fickle- here comes the part where you try to replace them!
cherry blossom- sometimes heartbreak can lead to good, for example my best friend: my cherry blossom.
air mattress- these things suck (so does a broken heart)
wishes- am I healing or forgetting?
untie- it still hurts, but not like it used to.
Once I post all of them, please please please give me feedback!!

BACKSTORY
My sophomore and Junior years of high school proved to be the most mentally challenging years of my life. Sophomore year was the year everything changed for me. I discovered what most girls had discovered and explored in previous years: boys.
I soon concluded that I didn't matter unless a boy said I did, and it was the worst mindset a girl could have. I had a pretty rough childhood, which meant even the slightest bit of attention could easily have been called love in my eyes.
Because of a lot that happened sophomore year, I ended up with no friends, not on talking terms with my parents, and in therapy.
Skip to Junior year, I was determined to start over. I had become a completely different person in my mind, and I had grown more confident. At the start of junior year, I finally met someone who treated me well, and compared to what I had been through all my life, this was pure gold. I thought that he was the only person who ever had and ever would 'love' me. I met his parents, went out with him, and held him in my arms as I matched my breathing to his. I thought I was so unworthy of love that I was lucky to find even one person who treated me like a human. I was so dependent and attached to him, and he saw this. He used me until he no longer needed me, and it shattered me for 7 months until I realized something.
I was fine before I met him, and I would be fine after. I didn't need someone to stay because I had myself, and that would never change.
I began to love myself more, and despite healing, I still needed to put my thoughts, feelings, and experiences out there. So I wrote in my journal and I wrote letters I will never send. And now I'm writing poetry for people to read so the little girl in me who never had a voice can finally be heard.

Chapter 1: fable
maybe
Maybe,
Maybe.
I think maybe you are my person
As I look into your loving eyes,
because I have never known eyes like these.
I think maybe you are my person,
As you whisper words of forever in my ears,
because I have never known forever.
I think maybe you are my person,
As you tell me you love me
because I have never known love.
Maybe,
Maybe.
I think maybe you are my person
As I look into your loving eyes,
because I have never known eyes like these.
I think maybe you are my person,
As you whisper words of forever in my ears,
because I have never known forever.
I think maybe you are my person,
As you tell me you love me
because I have never known love.

lovely fool
When I look at you, I can feel it
right here in my heart
that you are made for me.
I've become a fool, I think
a fool who thinks of nothing
but you.
I've become a fool who sings your name
to the stars every night.
I've become a fool who's heart beats your name,
every pulse becomes syllable.
I've become a fool who can't live without you,
my skin crawls and itches for your warmth,
my lips beg to brush yours just one more time,
my hands feel lost when they aren't
interlocked with yours.
Perhaps I've become a fool,
but a fool for you in every way.
Doesn't that make me a
lovely fool?
When I look at you, I can feel it
right here in my heart
that you are made for me.
I've become a fool, I think
a fool who thinks of nothing
but you.
I've become a fool who sings your name
to the stars every night.
I've become a fool who's heart beats your name,
every pulse becomes syllable.
I've become a fool who can't live without you,

break
You smile at me with your childish grin,
your perfect teeth on full display.
I smile back, with my dishonest mouth
and uneven teeth.
With every beat of my heart, I change my mind
My heart beats your name
and then it beats his.
Not because I have feelings for him,
but because I worry for him.
My mind is a disposition,
driven by fear and what once was
while yearning for what is and what will be.
I love you, but he loves me.
I like you, but he needs me.
We are happy, but he is sick.
And I look at you and feel selfish,
because I am healed and happy
and he is not.
And so the words
'we need to take a break'
echo throughout my head.
We need to take a break,
I think.
We need to take a break,
I say.
And you stare at me,
a look I will never forget.
Confused, and a little bit hurt.
But you are stronger than he is,
because you do not need me.
You like me but you do not need me.
'I'm sorry'
I think I said.
I do not remember,
because I felt something in my heart
in that moment.
A split,
a crack,
or maybe a break.
You smile at me with your childish grin,
your perfect teeth on full display.
I smile back, with my dishonest mouth
and uneven teeth.
With every beat of my heart, I change my mind
My heart beats your name

untruths
we are on a break,
and you are gone.
moved on.
She is pretty, she is everything
I am not.
My hair is painted blood red,
hers grows a beautiful blonde.
My eyes, the eyes you told me you loved,
are the color of dirt and only pretty
in the sun.
Yet her eyes could rival the sun,
bright, blue, and enchanting.
My clothes hang off my body in folds,
much too big as they hide the scarred flesh
on my skinny body.
Her clothes seem to be another
skin, they hug her body just right,
showing off her perfect curves.
She smiles and laughs,
every guy and girl turns her way.
I walk by unnoticed,
unnoticed by everyone but you.
You have her, yet you look at me.
I could have him, yet I look at you.
I never went back to him,
but sometimes I wish I did.
Because seeing you with her
so quickly
should have been the first sign
of the many untruths you spoke to me.
we are on a break,
and you are gone.
moved on.
She is pretty, she is everything
I am not.

grapevine
The grape vine sprouts from the ground,
forming cracks and grooves in the sturdy
ground I had built myself.
The vines reach up and twist around my ankles,
holding me in place
as the green reaches up and out to me,
offering a grape.
I take it.
'she was there the whole time'
the grape says to me,
the sour taste spreading across my tongue.
I spit it out.
The vine offers another, this one bigger than the last.
I take it in my hand.
'he only got with you
because you were the skinner option'
I almost choke and spit this one out
but not before a little slid down my throat.
I tell you about these grapes
because I know they shouldn't taste like this.
please, I ask,
get me out of these wretched green chains.
Instead of cutting away at the vines
that trap me,
you watch the vines shove grapes down my throat
and tell me they don't taste bad at all.
I'm just imagining it.
The grape vine sprouts from the ground,
forming cracks and grooves in the sturdy
ground I had built myself.
The vines reach up and twist around my ankles,

rules
We agreed on the rules
I remember we did.
But at some point,
we got confused.
Maybe a miscalculation
or a skipped turn,
but suddenly it became clear
you were playing an entirely different game
with someone else.
We agreed on the rules

But at some point,
we got confused.
Maybe a miscalculation

Chapter 2: Desolation
numb
I think I am sad,
or maybe I am angry.
At who, I do not know.
I think I remember warmth,
I have unclear memories of love.
it might have been a dream.
no, it must have been.
Because if you had loved me
I would not be so numb.
No, I made it up. Or maybe you did.
I can't remember who I am mad at.
Am I mad?
Or was it sad?
Maybe nothing at all,
yes.
that sounds right.
I am nothing.
Nothing if not numb.
I think I am sad,
or maybe I am angry.
At who, I do not know.
I think I remember warmth,
I have unclear memories of love.
it might have been a dream.
no, it must have been.

grapevine pt 2
I am laying on ruins of once was,
curled up and rotting away.
My tears watered the ground beneath me,
sprouting the familiar green
I hated yet craved.
Soon, I am digging desperately
at the rock,
clawing at what comes between me
and a taste of your words.
I shove a rotten, wrinkled grape into my mouth,
drunk on the flavor as it speaks of
disgusting and bitter things
you say about me.
The flavor is not good,
but the way it makes me feel
makes me want more.
With each grape,
I fall deeper and deeper
into the grave you dug for me.
Because the moment I climb out,
I lose what little left of you I have.
So I lay and wait for the vines to grow
and feed off the grapes.
I am laying on ruins of once was,
curled up and rotting away.
My tears watered the ground beneath me,
sprouting the familiar green
I hated yet craved.

fickle
I have locked every thought of you away,
guarding it with rows and rows of soldiers.
I tell these soldiers lies of affection,
I flirt with no meaning.
I promise things I never kept.
I wait until I know they will stay,
and then I find my next soldier.
I tell this one words
I know I'm supposed to mean.
But I don't, because I only need them
to keep me from unlocking
my memories of you.
But as soon as I decide
that there are enough,
I change my mind.
More, I need more.
I spend less time with them now,
and their loyalty to me
weakens
as it becomes clear that my affections
are fickle.
I have locked every thought of you away,
guarding it with rows and rows of soldiers.
I tell these soldiers lies of affection,
I flirt with no meaning.
I promise things I never kept.
I wait until I know they will stay,
and then I find my next soldier.
