The Castellano Owl  Pet

Pet Thread - August 23rd 2025 - In London
After a rather strange meeting with a fellow Pureblood child, it was time to actually do what he came in to do; get himself an owl. His grandmother had so many that she sent out to do her bidding; so many different breeds that had so many different personalities. He wished he could just take one of the sweet ones of hers. It might not love him like it's his own, but at least he knew it would like him.

He was scared, even if it was a little childish, that the owl he adopted would hate him. What if he got an owl who wanted nothing to do with him? One, his grandmother would be upset at the owl if it couldn’t do its duties of sending Theophilus’ important mail. Two, it would hurt if he picked out his first pet and the owl didn’t actually like him.

Theophilus looked at the many birds; some cleaning their feathers with their beaks, others looking at him with big eyes, even more sleeping as they wait to be bought as someone’s companion or working bird. Each breed seemed to have their own quirks, as did each bird.

The Great Horned Owls seemed to stare him down the most, the boy shuddering under their intense gaze as he passed them. They reminded him too much of some of the looks he got from the elder men he had met during his grandmother’s meeting; too serious and too judgmental. The Snowy Owls were not staring at him that much; instead they seemed to find more interest in their own grooming habits, crooning too each other as they worked. He thought they were nice, but not as lively as he wanted.

Next, the Morepork Owls, They were nice, but he felt like buying the most expensive owl in the store would be too in-your-face for him, especially when his family is supposed to be known for their charity. On the other hand, he had to pass by the Tawny Owls, he wasn’t going to get the cheapest bird they had, either, he had an image to uphold. Down the row, the Arctic Owls seemed to be doing the same as the Snowy ones; though they looked up when he passed, some even stretching to showcase their impressive wingspan. Theophilus stopped to look them over; they were beautiful birds, truely.

He was looking over them, going to pick the one to take with him when he heard a noise from further down the walkway; from a different type of owl. An Indian Eagle Owl was staring at him, letting out little hoots as it looked over the small boy. It was a sleepy looking bird, tiny puffs of feathers sticking own almost horizontal on its head. It hooted again as he stepped closer, before puffing out some; like it was trying to stand taller under his gaze. The kid smiled, and the owl hooted.

Yeah, this was his owl.

As he walked out of the store, many galleons lighter, he couldn’t help but smile at his owl as it hooted in its cage. He was going to have a great upcoming year with his new feathered friend, Salathiel.
