The Amazing Adventures of The Arjan, Volume 3
T H E- A R J A N- O B E R O I
When: 5th July 2025 | Where: Wizard Trials Tournament Grounds
Arjan flexed his muscles. A smirk crossed his lips as he examined their curvature. They looked perfect. He looked perfect. It was really quite something. Honestly, no wonder the world was full of Arjan super fans or those seriously jealous of him that they could not admit perfection exists, even when it hit them in their face. Nodding to himself as he gave himself a once-over in the mirror, he ran his hand over his hair, which was coiffed to perfection.
The athlete was wearing a short-sleeve jersey that boldly and proudly read “THE ARJAN OBEROI” on the back. The front had a large picture of a tiger outline on it and there was a small logo on it with a few more on the sleeves. These logos were of companies that were sponsoring him, different businesses that were mostly international. If you looked closely enough, you would see some clear nepotism with most of those were owned by relatives of his. The jersey was a dark red with white and black outlines. This was accompanied by a pair of black joggers, with a red and white stripe down the side until they hit the letters “THE ARJAN OBEROI” written down the side.
Honestly, it was hard to understand why anyone would support another team or individual when Arjan Oberoi was there. Clearly, any other fans simply had not witnessed his greatness themselves yet and were simply people who would quickly become his fans in due time. That or they were jealous and pretending otherwise. He left the changing room and made his way through a corridor, up a set of stairs and out towards the field.
The sun hit his eyes as he scanned the area. It looked like there was a small crowd today but what stood out was that were quite a lot of seats still available. It was not packed, not yet. One day. One day they would all come, just to see him. People would be fighting over the tickets to get a chance to gaze upon the incredible athlete. Even just to get a glimpse at him! He could only sigh as his public relations or marketing team clearly did not do a great job at advertising that he was here and he was going to be partaking in today’s tournament. Of course they did not. If they had, the place would have far more people, all holding up signs with his name or face all over them, painted in colours to match his jersey and screaming his name.
He could barely hear anyone say his name! Maybe they were all just shy. Yes, that must have been it. Why else would they not be screaming his name at full volume?
He made his way over to the waiting area for the athletes, where his equipment was waiting as well as his assistant, who was there with some water. The waiting area was several large rooms for each team. There was a huge window on one side that overlooked the field and plenty of space for team mates to sit. In this tournament, the team mates were all athletes that had been selected by the same manager or coach. The obstacles were individually competed and each athlete got an individual ranking but those individual points were accumulated to get a team total, which would decide the winner. It was a bit of a pain, really. Arjan hated that he was often dragged down by others.
Because, of course, he was always the best person on the team and everyone else just dragged him down. Even if an opponent beat him, it was purely because they were cheating. That was it. In a fair contest, there was no way that he would ever lose after all.
He gave his assistant the once-over. What was her name? Melina, right? It was hard to keep up since they changed so often! Mel was donning the team’s hoodie, which was open, a tank top and a pair of shorts. It was cute, if he did say so himself. “Good morning, sir! You’re looking good, as always but the new uniform looks particularly stunning. Your broom has been checked and is there. Today’s obstacles are being announced shortly,” He heard her say with a bright smile. He threw her a wink as he grabbed the bottle of water she was offering him and drained it pretty quickly. Arjan could see her blushing from the corner of his eye as he turned to gaze outside the window. He could see the shape of the landscape changing quickly as they started up the tournament.
The announcer’s voice boomed across the stadium and Arjan could only groan. There would be ten trials today, it would seem, and they announced over twenty names of other athletes that would be competing today. It seemed that these trials would help determine who qualified for the playoffs but really, Arjan should automatically just get a place - he was the best of the lot, after all! Surely he could just be seated or something.
From the window, he could see the field shifting as the announcer continued. The first obstacle was one that was a little bit of a pain but it was fine. It looked like a mini Quidditch pitch but with five different goal posts and teams. Each team had five members, who would do the roles of the chaser to score as many goals as possible. There was no seeker, thankfully. Arjan immediately took on a more offensive role.
As the announcer called out the teams, Arjan sighed. He had no idea who was on his team, because he did not pay much attention to that part nor did he know any of their faces. Luckily for him, his assistant was very good and she dragged a group of four people towards him, declaring them as his team. He gave them a look that made it very clear that he would be taking the offensive position on the team, ”You four focus on getting the quaffle into the posts. Let me handle everything else,” He declared, even though one of the others had muscles for days too.
With that, he walked off and made his way onto the field. The game was supposed to last exactly fifteen minutes, not giving any extra time for injuries - that he had inflicted on his opponents. But it ended in eleven minutes after he had knocked them all out by literally hitting into them and knocking them off course, and they had outscored the other team.
Having passed through the first game rather easily, Arjan was waltzing around with a smirk on his lips as though he single-handedly carried his team to the win. In truth, the other competitor with muscles likely also did some damage, and they won because people scored. Without the scoring, it would be impossible to win anyway!
The second trial required participants to fly through various obstacles, such as several large waterfalls, whilst chasing someone, whom they had to catch within the time limit. He hated this one. The water would make his perfectly styled hair wet! But hey, he was The Arjan Oberoi. He still looked pretty glorious even with wet hair. At the very least, his skin would glisten in the water as the sunlight reflected on it.
Another trial had several participants who would be called up to take part in different parts of the course at the same time to blast spells at targets mid-air. He watched from the viewing deck as participants number five through to ten were competing. Participant #7 ended up doing well, scoring 25 of the shots accurately, much to Arian’s dismay, which was the highest of the current ten. Participant #8 managed to get 21 of them.
When he was called up, Arjan grumbled as he grabbed his broom, swerving through the water. Spotting a few targets nearby, he quickly started to spell spread blasts towards them. He was off to a great start, successfully managing to hit three targets in a row, but things started to slow down after that. He missed a few, and his wand was being stupid! Arjan grumbled as he failed to cast, shaking his wand a few times. It was obviously his stupid wand’s fault! Some targets seemed to be moving too fast. It was annoying. He managed to end the trial with fifteen successful shots, somehow, and scraped through a pass even though his wand was obviously sabotaged to try and hold him back!
The trials continued like this, testing every single part of the athlete’s skill and determination. They would occasionally also test teamwork, where Arjan usually failed but he managed to drag himself through the trial narrowly scraping passes. He hated working with others, they always seemed to drag him down. Or at least, he liked to believe it was their fault and not his own.
After each trial, the competitors would return to their viewing decks, to rest and recuperate before the next trial began. They also had to do some in smaller groups, so it gave them a chance to sit somewhere whilst waiting. Arjan utilised this time to flirt with his assistant, and maybe a few other competitors if they were cute enough to catch his attention.
The announcer’s voice echoed throughout the rooms as the field changed again for the tenth and final trial. It became a rather large batting ring. As he lowered the now-empty water bottle he had been drinking, the smirk on his face was visible from miles away. It looked like this obstacle would be his domain.
He could hear Mel’s excited sequel behind him, followed by some noises of shuffling. If he had to guess, she was getting the equipment. Turning back around, he spotted her bending over a bag, rooting around in it before pulling out a bludger bat, “Perfect! This will do!” She announced as she examined the bat. He was busy watching her. Yes, it was kind of adorable how excited she was but he also fully understood why. Batting was his strength.
The announcer proceeded to list the final names of people who had made it through so far in one piece, including his. It seemed like ten participants remained. As it was the final trial and the audience was growing excited for a winner. Each participant was called out, one by one, to participate. They would get only one go each, it seemed, to hit a giant bludger that was unusually heavy and see just how far they could hit it.
In order, the participants got 30m, 22m, 18m, 19m, 19m, 37m, 24m, 20m and 31m. When Arjan was called up, he took his esteemed bat and headed out onto the pitch with it, and his trusty broom that had supported him in many a game. Twisting the bat in his hand casually, he mounted the broom and flew up into the air with a smirk on his lips. If his competition were so weak, he could not help but wonder how they managed to even get this far in the tournament. 18m, where they even kidding? Surely anyone who got less than 30m was not even a professional. Amateurs, honestly! A bunch of amateurs! Did the other nine trials wear them out or something?
Only three of them seemed to have done anything right but even then, Arjan could not help but laugh at their measly scores. None of them had come close to 40m, which really was not that difficult in his opinion.
He steadied himself in the air, before calling out, “Don’t worry, I’ll show you how it’s done,” as he sent a wink towards the crowd - that would, of course, be scooning. Drawing the bat backwards, he aimed at the approaching giant bludger. It must have been about a half a metre in diameter and likely made of pure metal! It was huge, heavy and could probably break your face if you were not careful. With the bat, he swung as it came towards him - firing the giant ball for forty four metres! A staggering forty four metres! Gosh, no wonder everyone was jealous of his glorious muscles. It was literally not a surprise at all.
The board lit up. First Place: Arjan Oberoi [44m].
Of course, doing well in just one trial meant nothing when the points were totalled but since it was the final trial, he felt an extra bit of arrogance as it allowed him to end the tournament with a bang, boosting his final score massively.
