Webbed Affections
Returning to Oxford amidst Easter Break, following the insanity that spiralled out of control at the Spring Soiree, had served as the perfect retreat for Meiyu; sparing her from the horrors that portrayed itself as students roaming around the castle. The change in scenery had been much desired with the young girl lulling over a much desired return back home. Yet, the eerie reminder of what occurred only months ago, had only sent a chill down her spine at the mere mention of visiting her paternal grandmother; a trip she desperately sought to avoid.
Fortunately, her mother and her persisting desire to lull the young girl away from her bedroom, under the guise of aiding with errands, brought the pair back to Diagon Alley once more. The cobblestone reminiscent to late autumn prior to Meiyu's admission into Hogwarts, whilst she was still sane, at the very least. With the pair dipping into a few shops, their return to the street was marked with animalistic sounds which forced Meiyu's head to turn on instinct, her cat like eyes immediately landing on a shop, boasting a sign 'Magical Menagerie.' Stilling with her movements as she observed those departing the shop with different cages in their grasp, containing assortments of animals from mere house rats to adult owls.
"Did you want one?" Elizabeth, Meiyu's mother warmingly interjected, lulling her back from the haze she had succumb to, with her thoughts returning to that afternoon she had attempted to attack an owl within the castle grounds, leaving her fingers aching in pain after facing the repercussions of her own actions. Shaking her head in disapproval, desiring nothing less than bringing home a vile rodent and even worse, onto the grounds, Meiyu flatly commented, "I don't like pets. Should of gotten Bomi that dog he wanted." Unfortunately for Meiyu, her mother was almost as stubborn as she was, finding ulterior motives behind the entire trip which she had orchestrated, solely to aid the young girl and spare her from the voice tormenting her. Of course, a mother knew her daughter, well enough to realise something was deeply wrong with the child, though, not enough to deduce what was wrong.
With a light push, Elizabeth directed Meiyu into the shop, smiling warmly behind the girl at the old couple who had been graced with age. Meiyu rolled her eyes as she moved away, inching closer to towards the different animals on display, whisking past the owls who had unconsciously become the face of a secluded prejudice the young lion kept within. "Definitely not an owl, perhaps a feline would suit your tastes better?" A voice interjected, forcing Meiyu to turn once more and gaze up at the figure who had invaded her thoughts. Met with a tall old man, who she'd later learn to be Ernest, who's face unwillingly gripped a singular whisker, Meiyu scowled as her eyes narrowed at the reminder of the cat who had pestered her at the Great Lake.
"I don't think I'm suited for cats, personalities too different." She commented, her lips pursed as she shifted her gaze back to the animals. Forced into the entire ordeal, thrilled was an understatement. That was until an eight legged creature caught her eye.
Swiftly moving towards the webbed animal, Ernest followed behind her, beaming with a smile, whilst Meiyu carried her usual stoic expression. "Ah, the black webber. I believe the pair of you will be well acquainted." Ernest chimed as Meiyu's gaze fixated on the creature, the man motioning her mother to begin the act of purchase, her mother swiftly adding the necessary equipment and food to the tab, a smile plastering her expression as she watched Meiyu glare with awe at her newfound acquaintance.
