Studying by the Lake
Alaric was a bit winded after his walk up to Ravenclaw tower to get his books, parchment, quills, ink, and blanket, and then walk back down again, through the Great Hall and down the path all the way to the lake. When he arrived, though, he decided it was worth it. It was a little warm today, but the breeze over the water made everything perfect. He dumped his satchel on the ground carelessly and shook his blanket out, letting it catch on the air and unfurl, floating gracefully down over the patch of grass he'd chosen.Time: The first Saturday at Hogwarts, just after lunch
Weather: Sunny, sparse clouds, approximately 17ºC
Alaric could see other students out by the lake with similar intentions, though most of them were in groups of two or three. He still hadn't met anyone yet, so here he was, studying alone. Well, as grandfather would say, "You don’t stop just because it’s difficult, my boy. You stop when there’s nothing left to learn, and that day - thank Merlin - never comes."
After he shook out his blanket, Alaric made himself comfortable and opened his satchel, taking out his stack of textbooks. He wanted to get his homework done and try to get ahead as well, so all his weekends weren't spent studying. While studying was one of his favorite things to do, there was so much to explore here at Hogwarts. The castle was huge and full of secrets, and Alaric knew that if he could just make some friends to go adventuring with, there was nothing they couldn't uncover about this castle and the people in it.

Studying by the Lake
While studying was definitely not something Nick enjoyed, the view sure was breathtaking though, and he did receive a brand new potions book that he hadn't have a chance to crack open just yet.
He wanted to make sure other ravenclaws were seeing that he was reading a book, any book in fact, just so they didn't judge him as a 'bad ravenclaw' to their friends.
The beautiful, massive castle on the background and the deep expansive lake right in front of him, he would be a fool to not believe this place to be perfect for some reading.
So after lunch, he scooped up a few pastries, rushed up the tower to grab his book and made his way back down to the grounds towards the lake.
It was a bit track, granted, he was panting when he got there, but at least he still had his three little pastries.
Stepping onto the grassy floor, looking around for a place to sit, his eyes caught a familiar sight for once.
Alaric sitting by himself, like he had been at the dorm before.
Nick had been a bit disappointed at himself when he woke up the morning and Alaric had already left the dormitory, he made a vow to start waking up a bit early to caught him before breakfast, he hoped.
So Nick went over to him with a smile, his book under his arm and his pastries in hand.
"Alaric!!" He yelled when he was slightly closer, to warn the poor boy of his loud incoming.

Studying by the Lake
Alaric glanced up in shock at hearing his name yelled so loudly before smiling broadly at his new friend, Nick. "Hello!" he shouted back warmly, leaning forward on his knees and waving one hand widely before sitting back down. When Nick got closer, Alaric gestured for him to sit down. "I was hoping to see you out here," Alaric began. "This has become one of my favorite spots here, just after this first week of classes. It's beautiful by the water. I wanted to find a place under a tree to sit, but I'm nervous to get too close to any of the trees here since I don't know what lives in them just yet. Our garden at home is pretty wild, at least in the back, but since I know everything that lives in it I don't find it very scary."
Alaric leaned back on his hands and stared up at clouds overhead, taking a deep breath in and then exhaling heavily with a smile. "Still, I'm glad I've been taking the time to explore the castle on my own a bit, you know? It's helping me feel more at home here. My brother and sister always made this place sound so perfect, I was afraid it wouldn't live up to the expectations I'd built up in my head. Luckily, it seems to be all that they've said and more!"

Nick smiled even brighter when he was invited to sit down with him. He rushed his steps to get to his friends faster and slowly sat down on the blanket by his side. "It is a really nice spot!"
Then he looked over the lake, one other students had picked spots farther away, talking to friends, reading books or working on homework assignments they had yet to finish. "It seems like a lot of people find this place peaceful too..."
Then he chuckled quietly. "Maybe its the squid!" He nodded towards the great lake. "Me mom told me when I was younger that there's a giant squid living in the bottom of the great lake! I would stay around the lake for that alone, I think it's fascinating! I wish I could see it."
Then he leaned forward just slightly, even though he was a tad too far away from the lake to really see anything at all, the murky water stopped him from checking out anything. So he sighed and leaned back again. "Can't see anything though."
