Graci continually tried to find places of quiet throughout the year, with varying degrees of success. It usually either had too many people seeking the same thing she was, a new friend, or too many distractions.
The library was no better. Despite being a place of mandatory quiet it was no less distracting for her. Because, in all truth, she could lose herself in her mind there for hours. Basking in the deliciously golden rays of sunlight, or get too distracted by the particles in the light beams to focus.
But it wasn't the worst place to be distracted by, and the transfiguration homework wasn't going to do its self. Hm, I wonder if there's a spell for that... ARGH! Must... focus...
She knew it was a helpless thought, but she was determined to finish the assignment so she stopped worrying about it.
As she looked through the stacks she saw a head peeking out from behind a stack of books. Over the months she had developed a nasty habit of studying better with a partner. Or that was what she liked to tell herself.
Should I bother her? She looks so peaceful... maybe.... Ah, no, I shouldn't interrupt her concentration.
That was Graci's thinking, at least, till she accidentally bumped the stack of books and she froze. It didn't fall over but she stood by it, silently staring hoping the girl behind it didn't notice.

Graci flinched at the girls harsh words, already scrambling to pick back up the mess she had made. Darn my clumsiness. It makes no friends, only accidents.
"Oh gosh, I am so so so sorry. I wasn't trying to... sorry." She was flushed, embarrassed and ashamed for ruining her work. Though not too terribly. Definitely not enough to warrant such a strong reaction.
"And, I mean, who are you to say I'm not doing anything. The whole world doesn't revolve around you, and just because I slightly inconvenienced you does not mean you can talk to me like that. I really am sorry, though."
Graci didn't know where that came from. It was completely valid, but... very uncharacteristic of her. Not the apologizing at the end, that was predictable, but calling her out like that. This girl could have been the nicest person known to mankind and just caught in a bad spot for all she knew.
I mean, rather unlikely, but you never know.
She was mentally rolling her eyes, trying so hard to keep a calm facade. It was working surprisingly well, especially considering that she had just been snapped at for something she didn't even purposefully do.

Graci knew as soon as the word had left her mouth that she shouldn't have said it all. Just because someone was rude to her did not give her the right to be nasty right back. She was still learning, but still. Hurting people, especially with words, was something she was trying to put a complete stop to. Not hurt, exactly, but frustrated, maybe?
Learning couldn't excuse everything, but this specific instance it could. Pettiness was excusable occasionally. "Well, I would like to point out that I was neither 'lazily flirting around' nor bothering people. In fact, I was not purposely bother you either. But I feel like I have made it abundantly clear that I'm sorry. And I'm sorry for being rude to you as well. It was not my place to say that."
Apologizing was very on brand for her, and she was very used to it, clumsy girl she was. It really is a curse. Stupid uncoordinated limbs.
Less than positive encounters weren't very usual to Graci. Not like she was uncultured or couldn't take the occasional snobby brat {not that she thought Amelia was one} but she really did despise having someone not like her. She didn't feel as though she was the kind of person to be despised. Well, that was a bit strong of a word, but it was true.

Graci had met very few people who had irked her such as this. Not that she disliked this girl... but that was exactly it. There was nothing wrong with her, but a bad first impression never settled well. She'd had few bad first impressions, one being the girl in potions, and the other that boy who threw snowballs at her. She'd never gotten him back for that... Oh well, too late, I suppose.
She didn't particularly care that the girl was glaring. It was the crying that worried her. Graci, too, cried when angry, but that didn't mean she liked being the cause of someone's tears! No matter how unpleasant they were towards her.
"I actually try to make a point of not lying to myself. Maybe some denial, but not lying. I have a conscience far too good at its job. And don't mind me. Just trying to apologize like someone with decency, I didn't know that was being a pain. But so be it."
Rude people were not something she regularly made time for, if ever. It is decided, if someone ever knocks over my books, it'll be fine. No worries. Gosh, I'm so rude. And petty.
Pettiness wasn't something she particularly liked, either. But here she stood, thinking unreasonably petty thoughts, going to walk away. Though, this girl would probably have something more to say. That was how conversations worked, after all.

Graci looked away at the sight of the girl's tears, both because she felt bad at being the majority of that cause, but also because if it were her she would prefer if her dignity was preserved. A hand went to one of the small braids she had put in her hair that morning, yanking at one of the little ribbons at the end, looking like thin red highlights. Now, they didn't feel quite so fun, the feeling of a dark stain of anger penetrating her heart and mind making everything seem a little duller.
Her stubborn-ness was actively warring with her instincts to apologize profusely and flee. Her stubborn streak had been victorious the whole conversation, and it was too late to back out without seeming... well, so much like her usual, compliant self. She was sick of this persistent anger, an ugly, ugly feeling no one liked to experience despite its frequency.
Well, it seems I've picked a fight with the sarcastic, haughty type. Joy. The urge to roll her eyes was strong, taking quite the feat of self control to push back, though she didn't know how it was managed, on her part. "Oh, so now I'm the one ranting about my issues? You're border-line yelling at me." She frowned, stepping back slightly as though she could literally distance herself from the situation.
Graci was, to say the least, not great at arguing. Words seemed to disintegrate in her mind as soon as she had to respond, good come-backs being formed days later. A good trait, she figured, in most situations, but not when being unfairly yelled at. Okay, sternly talked to. It was a library, after all, and few had the gall to truly yell in such a serene space. Graci abhorred yelling with her whole being, not that anyone in her family was particularly loud, but occassionally a stern talking to with a higher decibel than normal got a point further than any punishment.
A slight look of what could only be described as resentment crossed her face. While she was one for ignoring problems on the whole, disrespect in that form was another thing entirely. "Well then, if that's the case, have fun at your pity party. I hope your essay gets high marks, at least." She didn't wish that in the slightest, but sometimes it could diffuse the anger in her mind. Well wishes, that was. Taking the time to remember that this other girl was human quite like herself and this anger had probably been building for a long time now. Alas, Graci found it quite hard to focus on that and take a moment to breathe.
She turned on her heel, walking away with a disgruntled huff, her day officially ruined.
