This was the last Saturday before Thanksgiving, and Lillian was planning to get some hard studying over with, for a little while at least. She wanted to enjoy Thanksgiving and not have to worry about studying too much. Lillian had brought Book of Spells and Magical Theory with her to the library for some end-of-the-year studying, for her worst subject, Transfiguration.
Then, Lillian had sat down at the table. Since there didn't seem to be anyone nearby, she let herself get fully 'in' her studying. There was something relaxing and peaceful about studying if you did it right. She opened Magical Theory and brushed up why it is harder to conjure than to vanish. "So...to balance matter... Law of Conservation of Mass" she accidently whispered a little of what she was trying to remember under her breath.
Next, she looked at both book's Table of Contents to learn classifications of spells and some examples. But, just then, Lillian looked up, at an extraordinary coincidence, only to lock eyes with another girl! Lillian guessed by her uniform and age, that she must be a Slytherin first year.
Lillian had no idea who she was, even though she probably ought to. She ought to know nearly everyone's name by now, at least. "Umm...Hi," she said since politeness dictated that she say something. "Good day for studying?" she added with a shy smile and a tiny nod.
Lillian returned to her Transfiguration studying, but she didn't get completely 'in' it again, because she was pretty sure the girl would say a sentence or two to make up for the eye-catch. She started to semi-study while waiting.

It is an unspoken rule that a pureblood heiress is expected to excel in manners, etiquette, and academics.

And while she had loved books as company as the only child of her parents (and Mitzy timidly kept her away from trouble), her obsessive need to know about her mother's lineage had been gnawing at her for weeks now.

She found herself once again browsing through the library, scanning through rows and rows of books and tomes. It made the Cravensworth girl sigh, wishing that she hadn't let Rafal take the book about purebloods of old because now, she was right back where she started. And what's more, she really needs to get her head straight. Especially when it's nearing Christmas hols and she will no doubt be distracted with coming home and regaling the events at Hogwarts with her grandfather's portrait.

Her last class in Potions almost ended in a disaster that her homework grade barely scraped an E. Perfectly acceptable of course as it's lining on above average but to Eira, it simply won't do. If she wanted to be a competent Auror, she needs to improve on her potion brewing and grasping the very basics of Transfiguration.

What's the point of having a private tutor when she can't even keep up with her classes?

She wandered through the library and came across another student who was reading a book. Eira's staring might have been less than sublt because the girl suddenly looked up and stared right back at her.

Heat bloomed from Eira's cheeks as she was caught, staring is rude and unbecoming of a young lady. But rather than looking affronted, the girl- Gryffindor by the looks of the robes on her, gave a shy greeting and went back to her reading.

By the looks of the title, it looks like she was reading the Transfiguration textbook.

Circe may be smiling for her luck to be able to meet someone who might be apt with the difficult subject.

Propping herself up in a confident countenance, she walked towards the girl and gave a small curtsey, "Apologies, my name is Eira Reyne Cravensworth. I can't help but notice that you're reading up on Magical Theory. May I ask if you don't mind some company for some light reading?"

Lillian widened her eyes, in surprise, at the girl's politeness. She considered herself polite, but she wasn't as polite as Eira! Lillian didn't want to be rude, so she pretended to ignore Eira for a half a second to find a stopping point. Then, when she felt her eyes loosen, Lillian laid the book flat on the table to keep her pretend place open.
"I'm Lillian, Lillian McMason," she introduced herself. "And no, I wouldn't mind company at all." Then, she thought continued, Studying would probably be more fun with a friend, or at least an acquaintance. But, she didn't say it, because she didn't want to say too much.
Lillian watched Eira sit down. Then, when she was settled Lillian asked, "So, what brings you here?" she asked friendlily. Then, Lillian realized what she said could be taken as a 'What are you doing here?', so she added, while hoping she wasn't saying too much, "I'm trying to get some hard studying over with, so I can better enjoy Thanksgiving."
While waiting for the girl's answer, Lillian pretended to study the other book, but was really thinking about her. Lillian was pretty sure Eira was confident. She thought that she could see it in the way that Eira moved. That was the exact opposite of Lillian.
But, something about her made Lillian think that they had other things in common with each other. Mabie she liked to read for fun, but not too likely, because in Lillian's experience shy girls liked to read for fun. Mabie because one can't be shy about a book.
Then Lillian guessed that Eira's family might be on the wealthy side. Her mother had taught her to tell if someone was rich, or at least not poor, by what they wore, how they moved, and how they talked. But, however rich Eira was, Lillian had a feeling that they could develop a friendship if they tried, and if there was nothing buried within themselves that the other one absolutely hated. She shook her head slightly to get rid of her thoughts, so she could focus on the now, and listen to Eira's answer.

As the Gryffindor offered her a seat, Eira slid to the chair opposite to hers, pulling the chair as quietly as she can, lest they get kicked out by the librarian fpr causing a ruckus.

She felt her head tilt as the other girl- Lilian McMason, had stated that she was trying to study so she can enjoy Thanksgiving. At first, it intrigued her what day that was before she remembered that it was a holiday that North Americans celebrate and she found it admirable that a student is broadening her mind just before the hols.

Some of her housemates had also done their homework but mostly to make sure that their free time won't be interrupted with academics.

When Lillian asked her what she was doing in the library, she was careful to choose her words, "Just searching for books that can capture my attention", she answered (half-truths can't be count as lying, can it?), "And maybe some spellbooks that can teach more advanced charms."

In all honesty, she enjoyed her classes (even when she almost melted a cauldron during Potions and unintentionally killed her poor Honking Daffodil in Herbology) but her defensive spells are lackluster compared to the offensive ones and drives her a bit batty on trying to improve it at such a short time.

Well, it's also a good chance on broadening her circle of friends (or at the very least, acquaintances here at Hogwarts) so she leaned back and relaxed her shoulders. "I hope you don't mind me asking, what do you do for Thanksgiving? I'm not familiar with that festivity. My father's side even celebrate Samhain alongside Halloween" she explained, trying to tamper down the smile while remembering her Aunt Deidre trying to give Cockroach Clusters to innocent Muggle children and inviting their bewildered parents in seances and novice palmistry before her dad profusely apologizing to them and whisking her away before the Muggle law enforcement was called.

"Oh, Sorry!" Lillian nervously giggled. "You've probably never heard of it. I discovered the holiday a couple years ago, when I was studying Russia. Some Russian holiday was the inspiration for Thanksgiving, an American holiday. I just take it easy and remember to be thankful of my life and stuff," she concluded badly.
When Lillian was working on a report on Russian traditions at her old school, she had discovered the holiday of Tabernacles. The website said that Thanksgiving was derived from it. She researched some more, because she was curious. Her parents were interested when Lillian had told them. Her father had said that you can be thankful of your good fortune no matter where you live. Her mother had told her that she could around that day think of something that she was thankful for.
And that tradition had stuck. Lillian was here today trying to get studying over with so that she could be thankful that her Transfiguration studying would be over with. ( She had done a brush-up of Potions a couple nights ago in her dorm. ) With that reminder she once more picked up Book of Spells and Magical Theory to learn the reasoning behind vanishing charms.
Lillian hoped that she didn't look unfriendly or finished with the conversation, but the truth was she needed to study. If Eira wanted to keep chatting, she gladly would, because Lillian was enjoying the conversation very much. But, during breaks in speech, she needed to study. After all, that was why she was here today, and not sitting in the common room. ( Not that she ever did nothing, but still. )
