Fancy Seeing You Here! Sarai Toussaint

Makaio had been at Hogwarts a week. Being thrown into the middle of the end of all of the Transfiguration classes proved to be a lot for him. Grading homework and making sure the rest of the homework made sense was keeping him up till the wee hours of the morning daily. The way Hogwarts taught Transfiguration was way different than how he was taught back in the day, and really how he used it in his own line of work! It seemed rather disjointed without a wholistic approach and many of the students seemed either far behind the curve or just inadequately prepared. He definitely had his work cut out for him and he was plenty up for the challenge!

What he really needed was something familiar. He was never one who felt comfortable chained to a desk and that’s how he felt for the first week - trapped in an office just so that he could spend more time with his wife, Leilani Kāne. The things people did for love. However, this bright sunny afternoon found him surprisingly caught up after putting in the work. It required several all nighters, and time away from his hammock on the edge of the forbidden forest, but he was determined to conquer even the giant stack of parchment left for him. Conquer he did and now he could go to the very place he was fascinated by even before he accepted his position. As a lover and protector of plants, even he heard of the fabled greenhouses of Hogwarts. A lot of his coworkers and colleagues in the west had graduated from the school and he always heard stories about the impressive collection of one Sarai Toussaint.

It was hard to be in the plant world and not hear the name on the lips of the most interesting people in the business and he finally had the time to look at exactly what was so prized in these greenhouses. So, taking it upon himself, he let himself into the seventh year greenhouse. It did not disappoint! She had absolutely everything, from plants that he’s only seen in briefings, to ones only found in a textbook, even ones found in South East Asia where he was educated!

Instinctively, seeing it was about time to care for several of the more dangerous plants, Makaio put on dragonhide gloves and got to work. So entranced was he by the collection, he forgot he wasn’t specifically invited into the space or told he was allowed to touch the plants. His large and oversized body, hunched over a plant in the corner an odd sight for anyone who might happen to come in!

Lugging yet again another set of twins—albeit over 13 years apart—was no mere feat.

Her energy levels, tolerance, and mobility had been taxed greatly, but there was a newfound pep in her step following the meeting of new colleagues, Samuel Sauber and Desislava Nenovsky, only a week prior. Each of whom Sarai slowly began to admire and daresay trust from the new lot of faculty that roamed the halls of Hogwarts, yet many of them still remained unknown or unrecognizable to the woman. The newly-hired Divination Professor, however, made a faster acquaintance than expected as Desi doted well on the pregnant woman, and the Haitian woman on her, making the long and tedious days a little less burdensome and monotonous.

A warm chortle escaped her lips at the quip of Badriyah-Abuk, the brown and white Puerto Rican boa, who had coiled herself around the underside of Sarai's baby bump to remedy the weight of the babies under the flesh. Her serpentine body trailed the upper half of her body up Sarai's backside with her head resting in the crook of the Toussaint woman's neck, muttering back and forth regarding the antics of a rowdy student the day before.

"Ayibobo, se," "Goodness, sister," the Toussaint woman muttered exasperatedly with a warmhearted snicker at the serpent's jest as her steps carried her towards one of the greenhouses for general maintenance, "Ou tiye mwen!" "You kill me!"

A hand glided across the coils of her serpentine body, both out of habit and silent gratitude to have such a devoted friend during this lonely pregnancy, before reaching toward the door of the greenhouse. Tall stalks and greenery flooded her vision as the door swung open would a creak, revealing her beloved collection of both sentient plant specimens and non-sentient variations of sentimental value. They each remained strong, healthy, and tall, owing to magic as of late due to her waning energy levels, but Sarai attempted to remain as hands-on in her craft to deliver the exact requirements each plant required to flourish.

A scent of ritual incense followed the Haitian witch as she sauntered through the greenhouse, her blue-grey gaze examining new growth and slender fingers probing various soils for aeration and moisture.

During her tour, her eyes spotted a massive body hunched over one of her plants. This unknown person was far larger than any student Sarai could recognize, causing the Toussaint woman to clear her throat while observing the odd sight before her. It would have been rather humorous to see such a massive frame in such a feeble position, but only if she weren't on high alert and recognized the burly man before her.

Sensing Sarai's apprehension, Badriyah-Abuk adopted a more defensive position to protect the growing kin under the flesh, her bronze-colored beady gaze never straying from the man.

"Excuse me," the Haitian woman spoke neither overly dry nor overly warm, but calm, measured, and to-the-point, "Can I help you with anything?"

I always knew the wind would blow you back to me one day.

Fancy Seeing You Here! Sarai Toussaint
Makaio moved quickly with deft hands watering and feeding the pants on a table in the back of greenhouse with practiced hands and enough patience to avoid being at least seriously hurt or maimed. He had to admit perhaps he was a little too big for the space, but what was a few cuts? Were you really tending a greenhouse if you didn’t leave half poisoned? He let out a peaceful sigh as he sat back in his stool that looked as if it would buckle under his monstrous weight. Sweat from the humidity of the greenhouse soaking through his already rather too tight olive green t-shirt, clinging at the ripples of his muscles. He was about to move on to the next time when a certain plant however, caught his eyes. It was beautiful, and familiar. Was that? It couldn’t have be, right?

Makaio ran a calloused hand through his hair as he got up to get a better look. It was tucked behind other exotic Amazonian flowers of various delicate states. Before he could cross the room for a better look, someone cleared her throat.

The 40 year old, feeling all but like a student again having been caught doing something he ought not shot to his feet and turned on his feet to meet a rather unimpressed Professor Tousssaint-Fleischer. “Professor Sarai? I’m Makaio Kāne I’ve heard so much about you!” he said clearing his throat. “Sorry, I let myself in, I couldn’t help myself. Your collection is spectacular to say the very least.”
