afternoon, summer break 2025 at jacmel, haiti

Joy was at its purest form when the wampus cub returned to his beloved shores of Maudeline, the wizarding port town nearby Jacmel.

It had only been a few trying months since his expulsion from Castelobruxo, but Ilvermorny was treating him well—having the Headmaster as his father and his natural skill on the pitch would tilt the new experience to his favor. It catered well towards his already growing reputation and popularity, and earning a position on the Quidditch team would give him a sense of normalcy in a new school in a new country.

There grew a newfound seed of appreciation towards Ilvermorny once his contempt wore off; fresh insight to Quidditch from transitioning from a Chaser to a Beater, new classes, friends, and extra bonding time with his father. Alphonse had it all.

Almost, anyway.

The only thing that was missing was his little brother. Briar remained ever the recluse towards the eldest Toussaint progeny, and it seemed as though all pleas for forgiveness fell on deaf ears. Alphonse recognized that it was wrong to use violence, yet the boy had no qualms resorting to such lengths especially when his kin, his blood, was on the line.

A somber sigh heaved heavily from his lips as the behemoth boy sat in the wet sand overlooking the ocean, allowing the waves to attempt to swallow him whole. Had he snatched a snag of Gillyweed from his mother's stockpile, Alphonse would have taken it upon himself to begin exploring those depths to escape the blistering heat, to escape Briar or his hormonal mother, for a short while. Alas, the Toussaint boy was landlocked for the time being.

The water was a decent respite from his achy bones after assisting Fabian with tinkering with his motorcycle, homebound Quidditch practice, basketball, and soccer games with his friends. Yet, in this time of stillness, his mind wandered from his woes towards better thoughts. Geneviève. A small and contented smile crept across his countenance as Alphonse mused about their time at Beaubaxtons and Hogwarts together. It was no secret that the boy was a charmer at best, but there was something about Geneviève's company that brought him an air of peace and solace in the chaos that was his life. It was refreshing. What it was was about the Beaubaxtons Duelist was unbeknownst to the pubescent boy, but longed for the opportunity to see her again.

Whenever that day would be, Alphonse couldn't wait.

The first part of this roleplay takes place in Yvoire, France but transitions to Jacmel, Haiti
────────────────────────────────
Geneviève raced after her brothers as they began to pack their belongings in a huff and made preparations to apparate off in their sister's defense. With all the moping and huffing she had done over missing Alphonse her brothers had taken offense to the fact that the young man had not visited her and the letters had become more and more infrequent.

And thus her complaining and whining had grown heavier and heavier as the summer raged on which her brothers had had enough of.

"Genie! Enough! You are coming with us to point him out not to have a vacation!" her oldest brother Édouard had snapped when she pulled at his arm, throwing an absolute fit over not being allowed to sidealong apparate with them. She had been ever so bored cooped up in their villa all summer, she had no idea why they wouldn't allow her to leave France.

"But I want to spend time with him! I only get to see him during joint school events and you get to see your wife every day!" Genie whined as she stamped her foot rather petulantly. Ever the spoiled brat, she knew that eventually she would wear her brothers down as she continued to follow them around begging to be taken along.

Édouard shook her off his arm with a stern "Enough!"

"You don't even know what he looks like! I can help I promise! And I don't want to stay in France all summer- I want to travel!" She moped along one of the chaise lounges in the drawing room where her brothers were looking over a map trying to find a photo of the Jacmel beaches or one of the ports. She didn't know much about how Apparition worked, only that it could be incredibly sickening to accomplish and that they needed a good idea of where they were appearing. She truthfully hated any sort of travel that wasn't stationary travel such as via boat or train. She even hated the carriages that she took to the Academy during the school year because of the recklessness. She had such the queasy stomach. Something her brother Raphael tried to remind her gently as she threw herself on his bed disrupting the packing he was trying to accomplish.

Genie, you cannot side-along, so one, we're not doing that because you'll feel all sick and two you won't be able to enjoy the trip." Raphael gently chided as he pushed her off of the bed which only made her more annoyed. She sunk to the floor sulking.

"You three never let me do anything!" She spat with a remarkable scowl across her face. It was so unnatural against her delicate features that Raphael struggled to not laugh at her, which she hated. Her brother playfully threw a blanket over her, which had her hissing similar to a frustrated cat that wanted its toy mouse.

This case, the toy mouse being the boy she really liked and who had expressed interest in seeing her again because he 'swore his world stopped when she smiled' and she couldn't not return her smile to him once again. The passion behind his words was far too much for her to ignore and never return to.

And so- after another hour and a half of whining and bitching over not being allowed to go, Genie managed to wear her brothers down and was now happily standing beside Édouard as the three men started preparing to floo into one of the wizarding taverns in the Port.

"Port Maudeline. That's what you're looking for. DO NOT miss it. Got it?"He snapped as Geneviève nodded excitedly.

An agonizing and lurching feeling overwhelmed her only seconds later as the four of them contorted and twisted throught the air as they traveled almost instantaneously across the world through the use of the fireplaces.

When her feet touched solid ground, her first instinct had her upchucking the contents of her tea from that morning into a bush. Édouard sighed and pulled her along as they walked through the crowded street of Maudeline Port. It was busy, and despite craning her neck and looking desperately, Geneviève saw neither hide nor hair of Alphonse which continued to discourage her.

As the afternoon heat raged forth, her youngest brother -Jean- decided to steer the four of them onto one of the beaches to cool down.

"Go on Genie, why don't you go cool off in the water for a moment?" Jean tried to console her as she stormed off towards the water ready to partake in the next big fit of the day.

She kicked at the water as the salt of the ocean sprayed across the hem of her capri's. Dumb water-

Dumb brothers-

DUMB BOYS.

afternoon, summer break 2025 at jacmel, haiti

Had it not been for the sweltering heat, Alphonse would surely sink the rest of the hours of daylight under the Caribbean sun if it meant for a moment of uninterrupted peace.

The concept of time seemed to dissipate into the deep recesses of his mind. The boy savored the familiar ambiance, musing further on Geneviève and what he'd write to her in his next letter. Thoughts began to shift from her to life at home—his father's resignation from Ilvermorny, the subsequent transition to Hogwarts that was soon approaching, as well as the other changes occurring in his pubescent life for who knew how long. A few minutes? 30? An hour?

Luckily, the ocean was cool and calm enough to keep the boy rooted in place, which only made the much-needed respite all the more appreciated. Or, so he thought. Aside from the occasional strong wave attempting to splash the behemoth boy or drag him into the shallow depths, it wasn't until Alphonse lowered onto his elbows to submerge his achy bones, that he felt his sandy foundation begin to slowly shift from beneath. A stronger swell ripped forward almost immediately, and to avoid losing his favorite designer shades gifted by his Djadja Aulya (uncle @Aulis Vorozheykin), Alphonse rose to his feet with a huff and looked around.

It seemed every summer that the wizarding port got busier and busier, but the town never lost its charm or forgotten its roots. The townfolk of Maudeline remained ever so hospitable to its guests as well as those that lived there. Scents of seafood being cooked on the beach wafted in the ocean air, and music and laughter echoed across the waves. All of it made him homesick knowing that he'd be leaving it again after a few more weeks to Scotland.

Lingering in the water just a moment more to wash his sand-caked sandals before walking barefoot across the beach to trek towards home. The pair of dark sunglasses sat comfortably on the Wampus cub's face as his concealed gaze swept over the beach, observing his fellow beach-dwellers ─some native and others clearly tourists to the wizarding port of Maudeline─ with a natural smile when anyone of familiarity or interest caught his eye.

During his walk, his gaze landed on a pretty platinum-haired girl stomping towards the shoreline. The girl oddly made him reminiscent of Geneviève given her beauty, stature, and hair color, but surely not? It had to be his imagination, dehydration, or the sweltering heat beaming down on him. It was no secret that they spoke often by owl and that Alphonse was missing her, but this was insanity on a whole other level.

"Get a grip, man," the boy grumbled under his breath in frustration to himself, doffing his designer sunglasses to run a hand over his face in desperation.

Trudging forward through the sand, he tried to avert his sunglasses-clad gaze and be respectful to the girl, yet something kept drawing his brown eyes back to her inadvertently. It wasn't until the girl began kicking at the water that Alphonse began to observe intently, but kept his safe distance from her clear display of wrath as his stride led him closer and closer to the platinum-haired girl.

Now beginning to tread past the anguish-filled girl who still stood kicking at the shoreline, a clear view of her face would halt his long strides; it was Geneviève, but what was she doing here?

"Genie?" Alphonse questioned, cautiously approaching just in case his imagination truly was torturing him or if he'd be the next recipient of her fury.

She wiped her eyes as she looked at her reflection in the water. The tides pushed and pulled at her reflection just as Alphonse had been doing with her heartstrings ever since they met. He had left her in the gardens of Beauxbatons during their first meeting by passing out due to what she later heard was someone's sick joke with a large dose of Amortentia, then when they had finally reunited at Hogwarts for the Spring Ball he had invited her too, she had shown up and a fire had broken out. They had been separated because of his chivalry to his mother and his cousin which she could understand but it had left her in alone and afraid.

When they had finally had a moments peace to actually talk, it still wasn't alone. They were surrounded by his family who, while lovely, were not who she had wanted to talk to in the long run. She just wanted to talk to Alphonse-

The frown on her face was disorted by the tide that lapped at her sandals.

Her SANDALS!

She shrieked and realized that in her frustration she had wandered into the salty water in her very expensive, and very new sandals that she had just had imported from Vienna. She turned around and made to run back to the shore so that one of her brothers could perform a mending charm on them so as to remove the damage she may have caused. However in her flight from the water, she crashed into a sturdy body and sent herself flying backwards into a freezing wave.

As the wave crashed over her, Geneviève mustered up the largest pout that she could from where she sat in the water. Her outfit was soaked, her hair was ruined and all she wanted to do was go home an have a good cry about the situation.

Geneviève whimpered as she pushed her golden curls away from her face and looked up at whom it was she had crashed into. Her eyes must have been covered in far too much salt water and tears to be seeing things clearly. But there he stood, in all the wonderous and handsome looking way that he was. Alphonse Toussaint.

She was still upset about her current situation, which kept her from speaking to him for a moment. However that moment didn't last long when out of the blue, she was scooped up by the arms of her brother Raphael and the voices of Édouard and Jean where furiously mouthing off to the boy in front of her. Coming to her senses, in her own weird way, Geneviève started to thrash about in Raphael's arms.

"Put. Me. Down! Put me down! Let go!" She whined as she demanded for her brother to let go of her. She hated when her brothers overly babied her as though she wasn't thirteen and couldn't take care of herself. Just because she didn't like doing things for herself didn't mean that she needed them to do everything for her.

And also because she knew that Alphonse was in trouble and if she let her brothers get away with what they were planning to do, Alphonse might genuinely be hurt.

Upon Geneviève's shriek and sudden rampage out of the shoreline, there was a futile attempt to lunge forward to secure her in his arms upon their collision. But it was too late—Geneviève was already sent flying back into the water with a splash, followed by a cool wave lapping her forward. Alphonse's confused face contorted to horror as the Toussaint boy went through the five stages of grief.

"Genie, oh my god! I'm so sorry," Alphonse muttered, rushing forward in hopes to assist her out of the water as apologies rattled profusely out of him. Before his hands could seek hers, there was a forceful yank on his shirt's collar, and the boy was whirled around violently and suddenly face-to-face with two older guys. Their faces were reddened and eyes bulged as the duo began to berate him in a fury so massive Alphonse worried they'd pop a vein or blood vessel.

Despite the venom they showered on him—both verbal and the occasional hot saliva flying from their mouthes—Alphonse didn't give a shit; his brown gaze searched desperately for Geneviève who was being hauled by a third older guy [Raphael] away from the beach.

With a stern grip on Alphonse's shirt, the older of the two [Édouard] shouted while yanking Alphonse forward: "You will not raise a hand to our sister! You're dead-"

"I-I didn't! I would never hurt Genie-" Alphonse frantically interupted with a shocked and apologetic look in his eyes before glancing between a thrashing Geneviève in the distance and the two guys shrieking in front of him, "-It was an accident! I swear, man. I didn't touch her!"

"We saw everything with our own two eyes," the younger of the duo [Jean] fired while shoving the Toussaint boy towards the crashing waves, "You calling us liars?!"

Alphonse pushed him back. "No, man! I'm just saying— that's not what happened at all. You got it all wrong. I like Genie, I wouldn-"

Before he could finish, a sudden balled fist barrelled towards Alphonse's face.

Adrenaline fired through Alphonse's bloodstream; his body growing hot and tense as his fists were clenched, up, and ready.

Kicking a heap of sand upwards into their faces, Alphonse maneuvered out of the way just in the nick of time. Geneviève's brother [Jean] toppled forward towards the ocean when the punch missed its mark, and Alphonse's fist swung in reaction. It collided with the hard skull of the anguished boy's head, causing him to hurtle sideways and fall flat in the sand.

In seconds, the quarrel felt as if it finally was all over.
Little did Alphonse know, it was just the beginning.

"Damn."

Watching Alphonse get his ass kicked by her brothers wasn't exactly what she wanted to see her sort of/almost boyfriend deal with but it was happening and she was currently powerless to stop it. While she loved her brothers dearly, Jean was the most stubborn and prone to a fistfight out of the four of them. Édouard wasn't one to fight but out of her brothers, he was the most protective of her -she suspected it was because of their mother's abscence and his overwhelming need to fulfill his duty to the family Caussade- thus here he was, participating in the beatdown of her friend.

The problem with the two of them against Alphonse, was the fact that both Jean and Édouard had years of martial arts and self-defense training as part of their upbringing. She had seen them rough up several of their instructors and each other more often than not. Jean was in their manor's workout area or outside practicing his Quidditch and Broom racing- his muscles and defined strength were no joke, especially against a younger teen. What Édouard lacked in strength, he made up for in speed and precision. Alphonse was very clearly getting the wind knocked out of him and she had had enough.

"Stop it! Stop hitting each other! Or I'll tell Father you made me cry!" Geneviève shrieked in the family's native tongue which momentarily paused the ass-kicking. Édouard was aiming a kick at the kid while Jean had Alphonse in a headlock.

A moment passed as the four siblings stared/glared at each other before Jean socked Alphonse in the face out of pure spite at this point. Geneviève wrestled herself out of Raphael's arms and kicked Jean in the stomach to loosen his grip on her sort-of/almost boyfriend. She wrapped her arms around Alphonse and tears began to stream from her face.

"Oh Alphonse- I'm so sorry! I tried to stop them I swear!" she bawled as she held onto him desperate for him to understand that this wasn't what she had wanted to have happen. That she wasn't even supposed to be here with her brothers anyway and had only traveled across the world for him because she had been lonely.

It wasn't right- and he had only been trying to help her out of the water. The water she had fallen in because she was moping and whining over the boy who she liked.

Raphael tried to pry her off Alphonse but she wasn't having it and instead dragged the Toussaint away from her brothers with a strange determination she truthfully wasn't feeling. Her shoes squished and squeaked with every step she took and more than once, her and swiped at the river of tears on her face.

Thankfully, the threat of telling their father that her brothers had made her cry was keeping the three imbeciles at bay as she walked hand in hand with Alphonse away from them. This was a very horrid way to tell a boy that she missed him and wanted to see him again.

- Afternoon, Summer Break 2025 | Jacmel, Haiti -

Alphonse didn't so much as flinch when the other adult man [Édouard] locked gazes with him, and the Haitian teen couldn't help but size him up completely. A victorious smirk illuminated on the boy's smug face upon observing the younger adult [Jean] rub his temple where Alphonse's punch landed—just as fast as the smirk touched his lips, it faded.

Pain. Nothing but pain came next.

A balled fist barrelled into Alphonse's stomach and knocked the wind from the boy, and the two adults suddenly had the upperhand as the boy hunched over in agony. Two of Geneviève's older brothers had the Haitian teen pinned against the sand in a flurry of blows that left the boy bloodied, disoriented, and gasping desperately for air. To make such bad matters worse, the tide was slowly rising and lapping at the shore at increasing rate, thus submerging Alphonse's bruised and bloody head under occasional swells.

He spat seawater and gargled curses at them, occasionally kicking or swinging at any direction to try to loosen their hold, but it was all to no avail. It wasn't until Geneviève's frightened shriek pierced the air that the beating came to an abrupt halt; at this time, Alphonse was trapped in a headlock by the younger brother while the older one poised to kick the Haitian teen in the ribs.

The Ilvermorny boy didn't know what she had said—didn't care; there was only agony and a buzzing in Alphonse's head, but his smart mouth didn't know when to quit. With a shaky exhale, Alphonse squinted through the pain and sourly remarked: "You little bitch-" crack "OW! Son of a!"

A flash of white crossed his vision, and the boy's head suddenly buckled backwards upon impact when the younger adult [Jean] punched him square in the nose one final time. Hot tears and a fresh gush of blood trailed down from Alphonse's nose and dripped onto his lips. There was a dull ache in his head, and his fingers grazed his broken nose in shock with a featherlight touch, barely noticing that Geneviève was sobbing and attempting to drag him away across the sand.

"That didn't hurt," Alphonse lied with a pained groan after the disorientation subsided and looked up at her, "It's okay, it's not your fault." The boy was beginning to wonder what Geneviève and her brothers even came to Maudeline for; was there more on their itinerary, or did they come all this way across the world just to beat his ass?

Pushing the thoughts and unspoken questions aside, the Wampus boy patted his shorts for his wand, but noticed the blackthorn wand wasn't there. It must have been dropped somewhere by her brothers. "Genie, my wand.. Can you get it back for me please? Then can we go somewhere? Ice cream? Lunch?"

The last thing the Haitian teen wanted was to go home—not when he looked like this; Alphonse knew his mother would have a million questions that the boy would refuse to answer. He was no snitch—ass beating aside.

Geneviève looked about where the scuffle had taken place for the wand that Alphonse had dropped. It was one thing to drop it, another to lose it among the waves alongside the water's edge. It was detrimental to young witches and wizards if they lost the wand they were originally paired with as it could severely hinder or even reverse their magical prowess and advancement. Luckily, Geneviève's lithe fingers were able to pull the wand from the wet sand and return it to its owners own fingers. Her hand clasped around his as her forehead rested against his shoulder, her knees hitting the sand with a soft indent. Her dress frills were soaked through. But she didn't care.

"Yes... Yes come on- lets go away from here. I am so sorry... Geneviève whispered as she helped pull him to his feet. It was comforting for her to hold his hands and steady him but after how her brothers had so viciously attacked him- she feared he found no comfort in her presence at all. Geneviève guided him to avoid walking near her brothers though not before she turned and snapped at her older family members in a distasteful French manner.

"Comment pouvez-vous être aussi méchants et vicieux tous les trois? Allez-vous en?! Je ne veux pas vous voir pour le reste de l'après-midi! Merde!" Geneviève spat at her siblings as she watched their faces erupt in complete shock, disgust, and appalment at her choice of words. She watched as her eldest brother, Edouard stepped forward trying to console her earning him all but a growl from her. Jean looked at her and spoke up

"Geneviève you get back here you little-" he started but was stopped by the other two men who kept him from grabbing his sister away from Alphonse. Geneviève continued to walk Alphonse away from her awful older siblings. The nerve and audacity of those grown men to think it appropriate to ruin the day of a boy who hadn't done anything to her ever.

Geneviève heard Raphael and Edouard holding the youngest brother back as she helped Alphonse back towards the boardwalks off the beach. Her stomach grumbled and while she was hungry, she was far more focused on getting Alphonse the help he needed to deal with the bruises and the injuries that her brothers had inflicted upon him. They were all lucky that no authorities had caught wind of what had been occurring. Geneviève needed absolutely none of that as Alphonse saw her for the first time in months.

As they walked away, she could hear the familiar cracks of her brothers apparating away from the beaches no doubt back to her father where they would rat her out. However, her father would likely admonish the three of them for leaving her in a country that she knew nothing about, nor were she was or who it was she could encounter. Right now she didn't care what her father would say whenever her brothers came to collect her. Being here with Alphonse is all that mattered.

"I believe I owe you an apology with lunch. Would you bring me to a place you like to eat?" Geneviève asked as she fished for a handkerchief to dab at the sweat on the brow of the boy in her arms. It was a hot day, and she could feel the stickiness of her own sweat dripping down the back of her neck under the bouffant of her milky curls. She needed a glass of water at the very least.

Spotting a bench, Geneviève directed their movements towards it and gently set Alphonse down as she continued to keep the sweat out of his eyes. Looking over the darker patches of his face and his rumpled shirt, her mouth contorted into a frown as she assessed the damage. Her brothers were strong, but Alphonse had held his own against them... for the most part. It was all she could do to protect him now and keep him from getting worse.

"Is your home around here? Your mother would have something to soothe your wounds I assume. I hope she won't be cross with me for my brother's insolence." Geneviève cooed sweetly as she tried to keep him from deserting her just because of her brother's actions.
