Interrupted Silence
Finally, he had finished his schoolwork for the day and could actually relax. The only other thing he had to do after that was find a quiet place to sketch in peace. The library had been a bit more crowded than he'd liked, and the study room was being used for a detention. Sometimes the common room and dorm room were acceptable places for his daily dose of solitude, other times there was too much foot traffic-- leaving him liable to simply snap at someone. So he tried to avoid it when it was peak hours for students to have free time.==========
Here though? The courtyard, open to the air, left the conversations of any other students enjoying it quieter than they would be in an enclosed room. Not only that, but the burble of the fountain was a soothing din to his music-starved ears, worthy of being called the 'best' white noise the school contained. It allowed him to properly focus on his hands as he drew them over the slightly worn pages of his sketchbook, long since having crossed into the zone. Once he was in the zone-- he heard nothing about his surroundings, and relied on the bell alone for when dinner started. In that sense, he did miss his phone; setting proper alarms helped him snap out of his trance at more optimal times.
Leaning back slightly, he took in his work. It was just a rough sketch so far, one of a magical being he had seen in a book from the library called a 'hag'. When he had seen the art of it, he had been hit with a particular sense of amusement. For one, what he could find on them left their existence... questionable. Given he was a muggle-born, he had no first-hand proof that they existed, and all the sources he could find were very limited, some treating them as real-- others speculating that they were just exaggerations of particularly unpleasant encounters with normal witches. From what he could tell, the Daily Prophet did speak of them as if they were real on occasion, but given his experiences with muggle media, he didn't fully trust their reports. So he found himself very uncertain when it came to his stance on their existence. In all honesty, learning about them from what scraps of information he could find left him starkly aware of his own ignorance in this... bizarre new reality he lived in.
Secondly, the art reminded him of old tales about the Baba Yaga his mother had once told him. So for all he knew, those stories weren't simply fairy tales, and there was, in fact, a Hag lurking about in his motherland that occasionally had children as a snack, and occasionally helped people. It was baffling, really, suddenly old folk tales he had learned about in his childhood possibly held actual truth behind them. It left him with a sense of... dissonance.
So he decided to translate that feeling onto paper, maybe in a vain attempt to make sense of these feelings... or maybe just because it piqued his artistic curiosity. He wasn't entirely certain, but it didn't matter anyway, because it was turning out good. The boy didn't often draw people... or, well, beings' in this case. He was enjoying the challenge, and it was effectively silencing his darker thoughts when he was working on it. For once he felt content.
