Happy with a little sad
Ivy wiped furiously at the few tears that had escaped on platform 9 3/4. Crying was not a common occurrence for her, she had told herself she wouldn’t cry, and believed it up until the moment she was looking up at the tear stained faces of her mother and father. A lump in her throat as she promised them she would write as much as she could. One last bone crushing hug nestled between her parents and she hopped onto the train.
Still feeling a little raw at the tearful goodbye she quickly found an empty compartment. She should make friends sooner rather than later but a moment alone should do her good.
There was ache in her fingers from carrying her trunk around all morning. A levitation charm would have helped, or a feather light charm. Too bad she couldn’t do any spells yet, and it was forbidden for underage wizards to do magic outside of Hogwarts.
Pulling out her wand, something bloomed in her chest, each time she looked at it the feeling was indescribable. Years she had waited patiently for her wand. Any attempts at doing wand less magic over the last few years failed spectacularly- obviously.
Tugging a spell book into her lap she would use this time to practice wand movements. Her father had taught her the proper grip she should have on her wand. Gentle small fingers curled around the wood near the end, comfortable, relaxed grip allowing full range wrist movement.
When she returned to her parents she would have so many new spells to show off. Satisfied grin on her face she started practicing.

Luca had sat quietly in his cabin alone for what seemed like forever, watching Platform 9 3/4 slowly empty as parents and young siblings crossed the barrier back into King's Cross Station. With the door open, a few people had passed his cabin, but no one stopped in. While he was perfectly content enjoying his private space, the urge to explore and meet new people overcame him.Beyond the Brick Wall ...revisit his past...
The boy stood up and passed the threshold back into the train car's hallway. He began walking past other cabins, noting which were full and which were empty. Luca eventually came upon a cabin with another person sitting and reading a book. He took this opportunity to make a new friend and stood in the doorway, taking up the entire space. He noted her long black hair, complexion, and other facial features.
During his travels through the train cars of the Hogwarts Express, Luca paid special attention to some details. He noted a few kids playing games, telling jokes, sharing stories about home, rummaging through their personal belongings, or enjoying a treat from the trolley. Luca made a mental note to get something from the trolley when he settled back into either his previous cabin or a new one.
"Hello, I'm Luca. Would you like some company?" Luca asked politely, staying in the hallway so he wouldn't intrude. He stood there with his 4'10" frame, not taking up much of the doorway, yet his presence was strong. Luca smiled and waited patiently for a response.

Engrossed in her spell book with silent incantations passing her lips. Ivy's heart leapt into her throat when she heard a boy speak. Pulling herself out of the book she glanced up to see a well dressed boy with piercing blue eyes.
"Yes, please come in." Ivy waved, gesturing to the seat opposite her. His polite tone had calmed her nerves instantly. Having just her father for company most of the time she wasn't used to speaking with people her own age. "I'm Ivy," she tried to give him her most friendly smile.
Mentally flicking through all the advice her mother had given her on making friends at school. Sweets, games, classes, smile, remember to smile darling.
Ivy's mother placed a paper bag of sweets in her hand, taking a peak she could see fizzing whizzbees, every flavour beans, and pepper imps.
"Sweets always helped me make friends," Her mothers smiling eyes looked down at her. "And if you aren't sure what to talk about you can always ask to play a game," A loving hand brushed through her curls and pulled her in for a hug. "You'll be fine darling," she finished with a soft kiss on the top of her head."
Ivy reached into her pocket and fumbled around pulling out the bag of sweets.
"Would you like a sweet, Luca?" A shy smile playing on her lips.

Luca locked eyes with the girl for a moment when she looked up from her book. He tried to take a discreet peek at the cover or catch a few stray words from the pages to see what she was reading, but he was unsuccessful. Luca admired her shy smile as he stepped fully into the cabin once he was invited. The boy instinctively unbuttoned the second button on his blazer as he sat down, allowing the fabric to spread evenly as he got comfortable.
"Thank you," Luca said confidently as he stepped into the cabin with the girl he now knew as Ivy. He repeated the name in his head a few times to ensure he remembered it and pronounced it correctly. It seemed like a simple enough name, but in this new world Luca was entering, every detail mattered. After getting comfortable and going through introductions, Ivy offered him a sweet. The boy smiled and nodded.
"Sure! What sweets do you have?" Luca asked as his eyes lit up a bit. Every boy and girl at their age loved sweets, and with no parents around, they could have as many as they wanted. He looked patiently as Ivy dug into her pockets, waiting to see what treat would come.

Luca waited with bated breath as Ivy rummaged in her pocket for a treat. Just as he was about to speak again, Luca thought he caught a glimpse of the red-haired boy he had met in the Leaky Cauldron before his adventure of getting all his school supplies. Whoever he had seen was distracted by the sheer enjoyment of discovering everything new about Hogwarts, Platform 9 3/4, and the Hogwarts Express, so he didn't get a clear view to see if it was Charles.
"Oh, I think I see someone! It was nice to meet you, Ivy! I'll see you at school!" Luca said, briefly feeling bad for not waiting for a piece of candy. He smiled sweetly at the girl before quickly exiting the cabin to see if it was his friend. As Luca stepped out of the cabin to find who he thought was his friend, he passed several other bustling cabins filled with new students eager for the year to start at Hogwarts. He wasn't sure whether to try joining a full cabin or backtrack to his own empty one.
Luca looked around, wondering where the boy he thought was Charles had gone. After exploring the train car for a moment, he finally found him and took a peek without being too obvious.
