Balancing Books and Blunders  solo   finished   closed
Julie Cameron's love for books reached a fever pitch the moment she stepped into the brimming aisles of Flourish and Blotts.

"I'll go ahead and find Magical Theory, Fantastic Beasts, Drafts and Potions, Book of Spells, pa," she exclaimed, already darting away. Her father's gentle reprimands faded behind her as she zigzagged through the shop's bustling heart.

"Just a bit more..." Julie muttered, her round eyes narrowing in fierce concentration. Balancing three required books precariously in her left arm, she stretched her right, tiptoeing to reach for Adalbert Waffling's Magical Theory. For what felt like the eighth time, her small arms and ankles strained against the awkward angle. The book remained stubbornly out of reach, perched just a little too high for an eleven-year-old. Finally, her fingertips grazed the spine, but in that instant, her left ankle twisted, and her balance gave way.

A swooping motion, and her father's strong hand caught her just before she tumbled. "You should have asked for my help, Julie," he sighed, lines of exasperation etching his forehead. Clearly, this wasn't the first time she tried to do things her way. "I had it under control, pa." Julie huffed, trying to hide her embarrassment from him and the curious onlookers. Determined to move past the awkward moment, she glanced down at the books in her arms. "I still need to find the rest..."

"Already got the rest," her father replied with a smile, showing her the two tomes. "Quite easy to find when you ask the bookshop owner first. Instead of bolting away." He winked, offering his free hand to take the books she was struggling with. "Now, let's get you some robes. I believe your mother's already at Madam Malkin's." Gilbert said, giving her shoulder a reassuring pat.
