New Year, New Additions & New Beginnings
A new year meant a new beginning, and that was definitely what was happening at home. It was a drastic turn of events--thank goodness school was starting because Bloom was unable to stay at home much longer. The amount of cooing and crying she was hearing day after day. She remembered Bella, her younger sister, crying all the time, too. Being able to sleep throughout the night was what she now needed.July 8th, 2018
Bloom Darling,
Please don't be mad, sweetheart. We know you're having the time of your life at camp, but we need you at home. There's someone you should meet. Someone very special to us--just like you and your sisters. Pack your bags and meet us at the station by the weekend. Don't worry, you will see your friends when you come back to school in the fall. Say your goodbyes and we will see you soon.
Love,
Mom and Dad
Rolling her eyes, Bloom had been looking forward to this experience since she heard about it after finals. She remembered writing a letter to her parents about how important it was for her to be with her friends--especially since she spent most of her end-of-the-year weeks studying and staying to herself. What could possibly be so important? Who was she meeting?
The weekend rolled by and Bloom, luggage in hand, got off the train and walked out of the train station. She looked around and found her father in the car, waiting patiently like all the other muggles. Putting her things into the car, she sat in the front seat. "How's my flower?" he asked, chipper. Bloom ignored her father, leaving the rest of the car ride silent.
Entering her ranch-style home, she saw her two sisters sitting on the couch, playing Wizard's Chess. Claire and Bella looked up at Bloom and she gave a small smile and went straight to her room to put her luggage down. Going back into the living room, her father singularly clapped his hands and rubbed them together. From the looks of it, it seemed as though he had an important announcement to make.
"Girls, your mom and I have something to share," he started, wondering how his three beautiful daughters would react.
"Dad, this is weird. On with it," Claire said impatiently.
Dad raised an eyebrow on the eldest child and looked back behind him. "Honey, come on out," he called, and turned back at the girls. "Your mother and I have been thinking a lot about this decision, but we've decided to--"
"Adopt a baby boy," their mother finished. Coming into the room with a small infant in her arms. The baby was tiny, his hair red--unlike anyone in the house--and his lips and cheeks rosy. "His name is Arye," she said, taking her skinny finger and letting the baby grab hold of it with his small hand.
Claire and Bella quietly shrieked with joy. The thought of having another baby in the house excited them. They had always wanted a baby brother. Bloom, on the other hand, was not so very excited. She, the middle child, was already going through what she figured was the neglect. Claire often getting the attention from dad and Bella from her mother. Now, there was a baby in the house--let alone a boy.
Dad noticed Bloom wasn't as excited with the girls. "Bloom, are you alright?" he asked, worried that perhaps this was too much for her.
"I'm great. This is amazing," she lied, slowly walking towards the baby next to her sisters. "He's adorable," she said, smiling, her heart secretly sinking.
Hogwarts, as of right now, was her safe-haven. She was filled with so much happiness that her second year was happening. It was going to be a wonderful 10 months of pure bliss--well, at least she hopes so. Last year was not at all what she had expected: bullied by Slytherins on her first day of school, a hardcore crushing experience over a Hufflepuff, becoming and losing Prefect standing because of her grades, nearly getting killed by an acromantula, dating a Ravenclaw who randomly decided not to talk to her anymore... It was both strange and experiential. But perhaps, this new year will bring about a better turnout.
First things first was to go to the Great Hall. It was the afternoon. Her stomach gurgling for food--she knew that it was time for lunch. The Great Hall, unlike other places in Hogwarts, was a place that was always 'happening'. More students find themselves eating, socializing and playing games in this room than anywhere else. With that, she could not wait to see some of her friends that she left the summer for. Granted, she only had a selected few. Perhaps this would be the year she would make more friends and do adventurous things that she had missed out on last year.
Walking into the Great Hall, she saw quite a bit of peers eating together. Most were sitting with their own houses, though there were some that shared tables with each other. She could tell that those who were sharing tables were primarily second years who met their rivaled housemates over the prior year or during camp. She looked around, figuring out where she wanted to sit--with her house or elsewhere.
Whilst searching for a place to sit, she spotted a very familiar brown-haired Hufflepuff. His eyes, green as the forest encompassing the castle. "Reid!" she called out, and made her way to sit with him. She opened her arms and gave him a tight hug around his shoulders--forgetting everything that had happened the year prior. If she was going to start things anew, she was going to pretend that nothing ever happened. Especially last year where words cannot describe how much awkwardness went between these two friends between love potions, acromantulas and more.
Bloom squished her way to sit next to Reid on the old, wooden bench and smiled. "How was your summer? Anything interesting? What are you classes this year?" she asked, excited to see a friendly face after her own summer adventure.

New Year, New Additions & New Beginnings
A half chuckle came from the young boy, amused by the joke that his fellow Hufflepuff had said. The boy seemed jovial, tired from being so 'serious' and 'paranoid'. The table had become a nice place for him to forget, for everyone to just bond over food and companionships. They were his comrade in arms, black and gold through and through. "Spelled 'D-e-r-b-y' not 'D-a-r-b-y', s'just an accent mate." he nearly wheezed, taking a bite of his sandwich. There was an ongoing debate as to why he said things the way he did, it sounded all normal to him. They were the ones that sounded odd and Reid was determined to prove it. That was before he noticed his housemates take a glance at someone behind him, though he was much too late to catch on. A pair of arms encircled him, it startled him at first but it quickly subsided as the feeling was welcoming.
JUST as he was turning his head, he narrowly missed the person's face when he tried to see who it was. Though a smile slipped on his features, one that only seemed to grow as the seconds ticked on. "Bloom." he grinned, scooting over as he gestured to the Hufflepuff on the other side. The young boy made a face and made way for the Ravenclaw, shame he had to give up his spot. "My summer? Well, it's been such a long while ..." he trailed, pushing his food aside. It was rare for him to forget his food, even rarer to deny it when it was sitting right in front of him. Reid turned his frame slightly and fixed his posture, the long nights hunched over began to take a toll on his back. There was so much for him to say and even ask, but he was glad she caught him when he was at his highest spirits.
"I mean, been a while since we talked. But summer was good and I did a lot. I was just ready to get back to Hogwarts really once I was done doing what I did." The boy seemed uninterested in talking about himself, he didn't exactly care much for how his summer went but more or less of how her year went. The last time he had spoken to Bloom was such a long while ago, life got in his way and perhaps hers did too. But he wouldn't know until he asked her after all. The mirth that swam in his voice seemingly sank like an anchor to the bottom of the sea, it was hard to dodge the curiosity that resurfaced as a result.
"HOW was your year and your summer?" His finger had been tapping the surface of the table slowly, a gentle and slow motion that calmed his nerves as he asked. No anger was left, no hurt settled in his stomach either, he was just confused as to why the people he had talked to so much suddenly faded. The boy didn't demand anything, he didn't dare to after all. Despite their young and complicated year, there felt like some clarity in seeing Bloom here in person and not in the back of his mind.
"Trouble usually finds me."

New Year, New Additions & New Beginnings
As she sat down next to him, she could tell that some of the Hufflepuff's around her were a bit steamed that she interrupted their conversation with Reid. She gave them a small smile and then focused her attention on the second-year who happened to be one of her closest friends-- despite not being able to see him for half a year, plus the whole summer.
As usual, his answers were always so vague. That was one thing that she could never understand from him. How could it be that he someone who is as young as she does not get excited about the littlest of things. Granted, she knew he did not like talking about himself because his questions were always about others, but he's human, too. But of course, she can't force him to be like that-- it is learned... Hopefully.
He asked her how both her year and summer had gone and it only reminded her of how long they truly did not see each other. She looked down at the food that was in front of them and her bangs slid in front of her chestnut eyes. How should I answer? she thought, wondering what to say. There were a lot of things different. Instantly, a feeling of confidence rushed through her body.
"Everything has been great," she lied, not giving any eye contact and answering as vague as he. She only wanting to start a new beginning. This year just feels different... In a good way," she added, moving her bangs out of her eyes and finally looking at Reid.
There was one thing that was different this year than last when she was with Reid. She wasn't nervous. For the first time, she realized that she was not crushing over him. Was it a phase from last year? Or perhaps it was her feelings crushed by Ben-- they were dating and all of a sudden he disappeared on her. Being that it was her first relationship, she did not want to experience anymore and therefore closed her heart to opportunity.
"Can you believe we're second years? What do you look forward to this year? Oh! Better yet! What adventures do you have planned?" she asked, excited to hear his answer--hopefully not vague.
She felt her stomach gurgle and looked again at the food on the table. Still listening to Reid, she grabbed a piece of chicken and put it on a clean plate that was next to her. Using a fork and knife, she began to cut-up the chicken into pieces. She took a bite, chewed and swallowed.
"Mmm! How I've missed magical food," she joked, taking in another bite.

New Year, New Additions & New Beginnings
THE first thing he noticed was how different she acted and talked, it was almost as if this was a totally different person. Yet he knew it was her, he knew that this was Bloom and perhaps the Bloom he met before was someone else. There was no wall that separated them in the conversation, no chasm for neither of them to jump for either of them to be understood. It was just two friends reconnecting for what felt like forever to him; he liked it. Reid picked up up his own piece of chicken, picking it apart with his own fingers as she shortly recounted her own year.
THERE was so much excitement from her that he’d mistake her for a Hufflepuff at the speed she was firing these questions. “Whoa, slow down Bloom. You sound like your lung is about to collapse.” he teased, pulling a piece from the bone. Reid ate a little as he shrugged slightly, this time he would actually give her a proper answer instead of a half-empty one. “I really, really, really -” The boy drawled out the word for emphasis. “... want to join Quidditch. I’m so ready, so ready!”
REID pumped both his fists into the air, dropping some loose bits of chicken on his robes and on the floor. He had gotten so caught up though that he didn’t even bother picking up the tiny pieces from the floor. Reid relaxed as he placed his hands on the table, his eyes on his Ravenclaw friend as he was ready to give her the most scandalous gossip yet. But it was anything but that. “Last year, I was in a skirmish Quidditch match. It was me and a couple of other brilliant players and it was all for fun. I honestly thought I’d blow it, thinking I’d hit one of my mates down below, yeah? But I didn’t. I hit almost every single one of those bludgers and helped knock the other beaters out.”
THE whole time he talked, it was as if a catharsis akin to a locomotive had hit him overnight. Something ignited in the boy’s voice, clear as day and as loud as a lightning. “I hate to be morbid Bloom, but I liked it. It felt good to knock it back and have it land.” In the slightest second, his voice softened to a soft rumble. “I found something I’m good at for once. It’s something I don’t need tutoring or help with, it comes to me naturally - not like magic. I really want to be on this team.” Reid glanced away for a moment, his eyes darting back towards the other tables as he realized how loud he had gotten.
HE pursed his lips, biting it slightly as he tried to quell the passion in his voice. Being overzealous wasn’t cool right? “It stresses me out to think about it. But it excites me too. Merlin’s - I talked too much. Sorry Bloom, I felt like -” He shook his head with a gentle exhaust, the brown haired boy covered his warm face with his free hand. The pigment of his features turned red and the boy cracked his fingers to at least be able to see Bloom through his hand. The corner of his lips were barely visible, but it was easy to stop the mirth. “What about you? Did you have something in mind for this year?”

New Year, New Additions & New Beginnings
Typically, the littlest things that he would do often made Bloom blush-- even if it was pulling apart chicken. But for the first time, Bloom was free. Perhaps her year-long crush was done. She was with Ben, that is... If she could ever find Ben. She hadn't talked to him in months. Does that mean they were still together or not? She didn't understand the dating scene at all and what it entailed.
Bloom's eyes sparkled when he mentioned about Quidditch. It was never her thing, but hearing about those who want to get into it was always so fascinating. She remembered that he tried out for Quidditch last year, but she was unsure of how it went with him. This year, she knew that he would make the team and do great.
"Reid! That's amazing! You're going to do great. I know it!" she said, happy for him. She patted him on the back with her hand that was clean from the chicken. "But of course, don't be that good. I'd like to see blue and bronze winning the most," she joked and she saw that he had left chicken pieces on his robe. Without thinking, she flicked them off his robe. That's what friends are for, right? Ensuring that friends look their best?
"Knocking the beaters out? You? You care for people too much," she added, surprised at the fact that his sensitive ways was diminished while he played his favorite sport. Who knew? In a way, it was very enlightening to know that he did have a "mean" bone in his body.
Grabbing a cookie from the middle of the table, Bloom munched on it while listening. She immediately shook her head when he mentioned that it was something he was finally good at. "That's not true!" she said quickly, her mouth still filled with cookie crumbles. She paused, swallowed and gave herself a little chuckle. "you've been good at a lot of things. This is something you just really like to do," she told him.
The question was turned to her. She had no idea what she wanted to do this year other than to have fun. But what was fun? She heard there were a lot more events that were taking place this upcoming year, but that wasn't necessarily enough for her to plan what she wanted to do. Bloom shrugged.
"I don't know...," she said slowly. Though for a second, she did. She wanted to find Ben. She hadn't seen him for such a long time and she did not know how he was. "I haven't seen Ben in awhile. Maybe reconnecting with him?" she thought, not knowing if Reid knew that they sort of parted ways naturally. She went into her studies and he disappeared. Never being in a relationship before, she never really knew how to deal with such a situation. Bloom's older sister, Claire, told her to get over him and find someone else, but Bloom couldn't just give up on someone.
"Um, other than that... Just have fun, I guess," she said, truly not knowing what was in store for her this year. She gave Reid a small smile and took another bite of her cookie.

New Year, New Additions & New Beginnings
FAITH in her words, it was the one thing that he found in his close friends. Everyone said things that they wanted to hear, he did it too. Reid knew his game and he knew that everyone played it the same too. But he found honesty in a few people, one of them being Bloom. It eased his awkward discomfort in not being good enough or not being up to par with the rest of his peers. But the ease settled in and his attention was on the mention of her plans for this coming year.
HE was anticipating it to be a good one for them all, at least that was what he had hoped. It was good to stay positive even after times of darkness, grim beginnings, and uncertain waters. Reid was tethered to the ground by a self-assurance that this year would be better for all of them and it would be nothing more than a normal year. He hasn't experienced something that has challenged it but he didn't want to get his hopes too high.
AT the mention of Ben, he slowed his eating and found a look of concern on his features. Did they drift apart? He frowned rather grimly, he couldn't help but parallel that with a girl who had a brief likeness to, Sabrina Hurst. No mention was made of it, he didn't want to remember her at all, it only brought out the worst in him after all this time. "Having fun is good." he reassured. "As long as you're taking care of yourself, it's good to have fun."
THE corner of his lips twitched into a small smile, his expression softening at the response. The last time they did anything remotely dangerous was when they were nearly destroyed by the Whomping Willow. "I hope reconnecting with Ben goes well, I've never done it before with anyone so I can't imagine how it would be like. I hope he's still nice, I haven't heard much from him in a while." He never knew what happened to Ben, it was like he disappeared, along with Felicity and the likes of them. If he didn't know any better, he was honestly cursed or something.

New Year, New Additions & New Beginnings
"Reid Kovacs," Bloom said, with a laugh. "You're going to join in on the fun, of course!" She knew that they had a couple bad times in the past, but they were older now and things are different. Bloom knew that the Hufflepuff needed a bit of a push to do things out of the ordinary. According to Bloom, Reid was a bit of a square. It's only until someone shifts his shape does he then take on that shape. Bloom felt that this year will not be as embarrassing as the past with the Whomping Willow and the love potion.
"Now that we're twelve, we can do a lot more! And just think about next year when we're thirteen... We can go to Hogsmeade and there's so much adventure there!" she said, thinking of the future while grabbing a sugar cookie with sprinkles from the middle of the table. "Also, I heard that this year will have more events than last year!" she added, biting into the cookie.
She then remembered Ben when he validated her wanting to reconnect with him. Does she really? In a way, Bloom was beyond angry at him. To disappear on her while they were dating... She had never dated before, but she could tell that it broke many dating rules to just flat out not communicate with the one you're seeing. It really made her question herself throughout the summer. Bloom had no idea how she would act when she sees his face.
"If I can find him, that is. Maybe it's for the best that he disappeared on me? Because now I know who out there are best for me. Thanks, Reid, for being a great friend," she said, her mind dazing off about Ben. She was thinking about how they first met in the common room when they both figured out they were Prefect partners together. She shook the memory out of her mind and looked at Reid with a smile on her face.
"Reid, I never asked... Do you have any brothers or sisters?" she asked, never knowing the answer to this question. It still made Bloom feel weird that she not only has two sisters, which she was used to, but now a baby brother. Maybe he had advice or ideas.

WHILE she talked, he slowly ate away and took drinks to not risk choking on his food. Confusion wrote itself on his features when she mentioned Ben and how he disappeared. But why? Why would he just disappear? Reid looked a little dumbfounded, pausing to stare a little at her as if it wasn't processing in his mind. Did Ben disappear like Felicity? What was it with the Ravenclaws?
MAYBE they're just as cursed as Hufflepuff was, it would be sad if that was the case. He was a little upset too that Ben would just leave Bloom like that, anyone would be upset for their friend. But she was quick to jump to something else despite the fact that his mind was still lingering on Ben. He snapped out of it and stumbled, "Uh siblings? Oh? If I have any? Uh, no." He rubbed his head and smiled meekly, realizing how hard he butchered that response.
REID straightened out and gave her a proper response. "No, I don't have siblings. I'm an only child, which is great in my opinion. I doubt I would be able to look after my sibling if I had one." he smirked jokingly. Did he give off the notion of being a sibling to someone? Reid picked at his food, the previous thoughts still lingered till he turned the table on her. "Do you have siblings? They seem nice to have."
HE had never lived with anyone besides his mum and dad, the thought of being an older sibling also boggled his mind. He seemed like a bit of an older sibling figure with other people already, but to actually have a smaller sibling to take care of was weird. Reid would have probably fallen into a state of constant envy with the lack of attention his parents would have given him. Bloom would be a good sister, in his opinion. Perhaps this was why she asked him about it in the first place.

New Year, New Additions & New Beginnings
Bloom was shocked to hear that Reid had no siblings ever in his life. She wondered how that would have been if she was an only child. Being the original middle child, she hardly got any attention from her parents. She wondered about how much attention she would have gotten from her mum and dad if she was an only child. Would they be traveling around the world because the expense of having one child made things less expensive?
Bloom nodded her head slowly, sad that she did have a number of siblings to start out and then another add-on this year. "I have an older sister, a younger sister, and just this summer my parents adopted a new baby brother," she said, her voice not sounding a tad bit excited. It was just another person that her parents could give attention to.
She was always still so confused as to why her parents adopted the baby. They were already short on money. It was the biggest reason as to why Bloom hardly had any other clothing than her uniforms. It was also one of the reasons why she applied to be Prefect. Having some sort of income for herself was handy so that she did not have to rely on her parents for anything. But now, having another person to pay for made their financial situation short.
"I don't understand why they would adopt... I mean, we're poor as it is and to take care of another in our family...," she said out loud. Bloom realized that what she had said no one in the school knew. No one knew how poor her family was. She never liked to publicize that, but she felt comfortable talking to Reid.
"Sorry...," she said, "You're lucky that you're an only child!" she laughed, trying to make the subject light. "But really, the way you take care of your friends, you would be a great big brother. Want mine?" she joked with some honesty.
