Suddenly Suddenly
Sitting at the edge of the bed was Skylar Motting, a little girl who just a week ago didn't believe in magic but now she was surrounded by wizards and witches and about to attend a school of magic called Hogwarts. Just the other day she thought she was a creep with no purpose in life and now she was told that she could become a prosperous young witch who did amazing things for her kind.
Her kind. Finally she was given a label that didn't sound it was the lowest of the low. She had a kind, she was a part of a kind, a kind of people who did things other people only imagined in books and movies. She could do anything, almost, as long as she put her mind to it. Skylar could show her parents that she was just as good as her sister, or even better.
She flashed a grin at herself in the mirror across from the bed, staring at her reflection. She was in a bedroom in a place called the Leaky Cauldron, which some people told her to stay in because of the incident that had happened back home. She was to stay until the start of the new school year at Hogwarts and until then she could wherever she wanted within Diagon Alley. Some people recommended that she visit a bank called Gringotts and deposit the money she'd gotten from the Ministry. Her family had absolutely no wizard money so she had been probably the brokest witch in the community.
Skylar really couldn't decide if she were insane or not, and in her situation most people wouldn't blame her. She went from living a normal Muggle life to being chucked into the world of magic, all in less than week. It all seemed pretty sketchy, she actually figured maybe she'd gotten into some sort of coma and this was her perception of reality. Then she'd wake up and realize that she was just the same old weirdo who wished desperately to either be acknowledged by her parents or just live in another life.
She got up and stretched, yawning quietly. It was dusk and the dying sun was shining a beautiful light through the window. Skylar could hear the sounds of people walking on the street below, even on the Muggle side. She'd already gotten her supplies for school, which she surprisingly didn't need that much help on, since all the signs were legible and she just watched other students do the same thing.
Skylar pulled out her wand. The most exciting part was going to Ollivander's, who sold wands such are hers. He said her wand was perfect for travelers and explorers who liked frequent challenges, which sounded very interesting. She didn't know what type of challenges she could do at Hogwarts, which is probably why she should read her school books, but Skylar felt like anything concerning magic was something she wanted to be apart of.
Falling backwards onto the bed, she held her wand up high and studied it. It was 29.4 centimeters and was supposedly made up of cherrywood and phoenix feathers...wait, those fire birds actually existed?
Skylar began to sit up, about to search through her books, but then she discarded the idea and slumped back down, feeling too lazy. It was getting dark and she wanted to go to bed soon. She let her wand drop down next to her and sighed, closing her eyes. There was just so much to think about, but again so little. For some reason she felt a little homesick, and she had no idea where that came from. Maybe it wasn't necessarily for her family but for being in a familiar place with other people that she knew. She was going to miss her friends but they said that she'd go back home for the summer anyways, and for the holidays if she wanted.
Turning onto her side, Skylar gazed at her reflection again. She was just a plain, blonde girl who somehow possessed magic in a family with no magic at all. Or maybe her father was hiding something.
Whatever the answer was, the young girl was too tired to think about anything anymore. As she felt her eyelids droop down Skylar thought about one last strange thing before she felt asleep:
What if she became evil?
