Parchment, ink, old books, new books, thousands of books, all perfect ingredients for a safe haven. Students were dotted throughout the library, friends huddled together scribbling on partchment, others alone in armchairs with their noses buried so far into their books Ivy could only see the top of their head.

Ivy walked towards the bookshelves. The adventures, ideas, thoughts and dreams contained in the books tugging her closer. The pull was instantanous, it always was when it came to books. Ivy ran her finger gently across the spines of the books, her pace slow but her eyes greedily scanning the titles. An Anthology of Eighteenth Century Charms, Asiatic Anti-Venoms, Dragon Species of Great Britain and Ireland, Handbook of Hippogriff Psychology.. Fantastic beast and where to find them. Ivy’s finger stopped its pursuit, she remembered this book from the required list. Fingers plucked the book from the shelf, reading a book countless students had pored over before her seemed better than the brand new one sitting in her dorm. Book clutched tightly to her chest she shuffled quickly over to an armchair ready to get lost in its pages.

The Bowtruckle, which eats insects, is a peaceable and intensely shy creature but if the tree in which it lives is threatened, it has been known to leap down upon the woodcutter or tree-surgeon attempting to harm its home and gouge at their eyes with its long, sharp fingers. An offering of woodlice will placate the Bowtruckle long enough to let a witch or wizard remove wand-wood from its tree.

Ivy tucked the dark curls that kept falling in front of her face behind her ear. Taking a moment to picture a Bowtruckle, perched on the arm of the chair, she chuckled to herself imagining the innocent looking creature gouging out someone's eyes. The definition of cute but deadly.

Probably the most famous of all magical beasts, dragons are among the most difficult to hide. The female is generally larger and more aggressive than the male, though neither should be approached by any but highly skilled and trained wizards.

Ivy sat up straighter at the Dragons section, since the first time she remembered hearing about dragons she has been enraptured. Book placed face down on her lap, she tilted her head back with her eyes closed to take a moment to imagine a dragon.

In her mind, on the back of a dragon large enough to cast a shadow over the whole library, sat a Bowtruckle, smaller than one of the dragon's scales ready to gouge out some eyes with tiny sharp fingers. A laugh bubbled up her chest and escaped quietly through her lips.
