✽Avery walked down to the Herbology greenhouses to get some seeds from her professor. A few days before she had heard rumors of a planting day to plant seeds and small plants in order to restore the land. Avery couldn’t pass down an opportunity to plant plants. She had never really planted anything before, but she knew enough about the basics and what she remembered doing with her grandmother when she was little to survive and hopefully not mess up.
Once she had made it to the greenhouses where her professor stood, she grabbed the packet of seeds handed to her. She didn’t recognize any of the plants at first, but she did recognize one. She couldn’t remember the name of it, but she did remember one day.
She was about six years old. It was summer, so her parents had sent her to stay with her grandparents for a few weeks since they were busy with work. Avery was so excited to be in a place that actually felt like home, so she barely gave her parents a second thought as she ran into her grandparents’ arms. She couldn’t wait to spend her time in her hometown. Even though she was only six and could only stay a few weeks.
Of course the first thing they did was head inside and dump her trunk onto her bed before running back outside. Her grandmother always had an activity planned for them back then. That time, it was planting flowers and other various plants and shrubs. Avery was excited. She had never planted anything before, so she couldn’t wait to see what chaos they would get up to. Avery’s mother was always too busy to do things like this with Avery. Usually Avery only saw her rarely on her days off when she made meals for their family of three.
Though, there were the rare times that Avery’s mother had brought home muggle recipes she had gotten from a friend from work for them to try. That had always been Avery’s favorite thing and one of the only things she enjoyed about living in London. Every time her mother came home with a new recipe in hand, Avery would quickly run to their kitchen where the dishes were being washed to get her apron. She always laughed as her mother stirred the mixture with her wand. She was so used to magic that simple things like getting her hands into the dirt was rare. That’s why she couldn’t wait.
Somehow Avery’s grandmother had a new mysterious muggle object. She called it a shovel and said she had found it on a trip into one of the muggle towns nearby. She also said she had never seen the object before and was excited to use it. Of course the lady that had sold the mysterious object Avery learned was a shovel how to use it. That would make things a lot easier.
Avery and her grandmother had planted the plants for hours that day, yet the only plant that they had planted that still stood out to her to this day was the seeds she held in her hands. She still couldn’t remember what the plant was called, but she would never forget the joy she had planting the little seedling.
Avery snapped out of her memory once she had gotten to the grounds. She stooped down to an area that hadn’t been covered in seeds and plants yet. She carefully dug out a small hole in the ground and dropped a couple seeds into it before covering the hole back up. Then she moved on to the next plant. She knew that this was going to be a long day filled with lots of planting, but Avery loved it. It took her mind off of everything that had happened to her lately and left her feeling peaceful and happy. Like that day was going to be a good day. ✽
