Man, what a busy few weeks. Duelling. Revision. Last minute homework assignments. Emily had very little time to simply bask in five minutes alone time, if and when she had it. She was ready to have a near full week's siesta once she finally finished off the last of her scheduled errands, only for another one to catch her attention.
However compared to the arduous work it was advertised to be, Emily took it as a chance to turn it into quite the opposite. Word had been going around that students were planting seeds around the campus to support the ecosystem. Emily could sympathise. She already did what she could to provide for the birds and the animals with whatever leftovers she had each day. Planting some seeds would be child's play for her. That didn't mean she wouldn't enjoy it though.
In fact, Emily would regard herself as the most eager among her peers to collect a stash of seeds and scour the Hogwarts grounds looking for the best place to plant them all. She spent the best part of the morning finding a good spot, one with lots of space to disperse and prosper, plenty of sunlight and rain but also enough shade so they wouldn't burn up and dry. She eventually settled on a nice patch of land beneath a healthy looking tree that looked like it could do with some wildflower company.
Emily rolled her sleeves up and got down on her honkers, poking a few holes into the dirt with her finger, each equidistant from each other. Space to take root, grow and bloom was crucial, she thought.
She went into her inside pockets to hoke out the seeds and began individually planting them. She hummed a little tune to herself as she placed the seeds into their designated spots rhythmically. The sounds of the lake and the soft rustle of leaves permeated her ears, the smell of earth wafting up her nose. She felt her head drain of all thought, replacing it with a moment of calmness like a gentle thrumming in her membrane.
She imagined the seeds being planted like one big neighbourhood, each hole a little apartment to house them all until they would bloom into mini stack stations for butterflies and bees. She'd remember to come back and check on them frequently whilst they were growing, especially once they become fully fledged flowers.
She covered the seeds over once all of them were planted. With a water bottle she had on hand, she sprinkled a careful amount over the patch of land. It would be enough to get them started with before it would next rain, she thought.
With the job done she dusted her hands off and stood back up. Maybe she'd come back to watch them grow tomorrow.
Because nothing was more exciting than watching plants grow, even when it took time. Though frankly, Emily just wanted an excuse to come back and enjoy being among nature again. After being kept on her toes for days, resting her head among the grounds of nature sounded like the perfect therapy to rejuvenate with.
