Avery could barely move. She wanted to help Azzure get to the portrait, but it was as if her whole body had turned to jello as she collapsed in the hallway in front of the portrait that led to Gryffindor. She wanted to cry out and call for help, but nothing worked in her body. Nothing moved. It was as if she had left her body. Like she was hollow. A ghost. She could hear Azzure screaming for help. Avery tried glancing around the room, but her head was heavy as it lolled around. She didn't want to be a burden, but she knew she was getting worse. They needed to get to the hospital wing. And fast. Before it was too late.

Finally Avery got her voice, though it sounded hoarse to her ears. A silent plea for help that she could only hope someone would hear. "Help. Please." Avery rasped out before her body gave out and the rest of her hit the ground. She winced. It wasn't exactly very comforting to hit the stone cold and hard ground. Actually, it had the opposite effect. Avery's eyes were heavy. All she wanted was to sleep. To rest, but she knew better. She was afraid she would never wake again if she lost consciousness. She was also terrified. Thousands of emotions and thoughts ran through her body as she burned with fever. She shivered and curled up into Azzure's jacket.

Avery hoped someone would come soon to help. There was no way that she had enough strength to even walk a step farther. She was too weak already and getting weaker every minute. She also knew there was no way Azzure could carry her alone. Avery knew from experience that people got a lot heavier when they weren't trying to help you.

Avery tried to call out for help again, but no words came out. Her throat was so dry to the point that even screaming seemed impossible. All she could do was close her eyes and lie there on the floor. Unable to move, speak, or get up. All she could do was rest.

Azzure had no idea how long she'd been shouting, her voice echoing uselessly through the empty corridor, only for it to fall on deaf ears. The hospital wing was 3 floors below and every logical part of Azzure's brain knew that it was impossible for her to carry Avery all the way there.

But given the situation, she was out of options––Azzure had to choose between letting Avery Gray die and piss off the whole Gryffindor quidditch team or try to carry her and deal with consequences later.

If we were to put it on a scale, the choice was obvious.

Azzure spun on her heel. Standing around wasn’t helping—she needed to get Avery to help, and fast. But when she turned back, she froze. It wasn’t Avery lying there anymore. Not really. For a split second, she saw her cousin—Kazumi. The same pale skin, the same brown hair. His lifeless body stared back at her, but the eyes were Avery’s.
"He's not real. He's not real. He's not real. He's not real." Azzure whispered under her breath, closing her eyes and shaking her head in an attempt to will the image of her cousin's corpse out of her head.

'get a grip Azzure, she's dying!' She internally screamed at herself, Avery needed her help right now, whether either of them liked it or not, Avery needed her. Azzure reeled herself back––her fears were still overwhelmingly prevalent, but she had to suck it up.

Azzure knelt down to Avery Gray, she was pale...frail. It felt weird seeing the friendliest Gryffindor first year so weak. Now, looking at her––with the air of energy and flamboyance stripped away––Azzure felt something in her begin to tighten... Azzure wasn't going to let anyone else die under her watch.

“Hey. Stay with me, Gray. Don’t you dare die on me—your team captain will have my head if you do.” Azzure spoke, trying to lighten the mood, but her hands shook as she pressed her palm to Avery’s forehead to check her temperature.

That’s when she heard it—footsteps pounding against the familiar stone of the Hogwarts staircase. Immediately Azzure sprung up, moving over to pear off the ledge of the railing. “Hey! We need help! Please come help us! A girl urgently needs to be taken to the hospital wing.”

Azzure called out, hoping that whoever was down there was kind enough to answer their plea for help.
