Rainbows and Sunshine

Birds were chirping high in the mountains on the near-cloudless morning of February 15th. Cyrus was all for it — he went on an early morning walk, still thinking fondly of the girl with radiant red hair and nature-green eyes, the girl whose existence was like a safe haven for his heart. Everything he saw reminded him of her. The gentle red hue of the sunrise made him think of her hair. The soft breeze reminded him of when they had met over feeding ducks. Ducks! And the sound of birds made him think of hope.
He slipped his hands into the pockets of his jeans and smiled warmly as he watched the sun rise. The grass, still wet from morning dew, sparkled as the golden-hour sunlight caught on each droplet. He debated walking back to the majestic duck-filled fountain, but he decided that, today, he could loop around the grounds of the castle and then come back to the glorious fountain. The heels of his cowboy boots occasionally squeaked against the grass, a joyous noise that made the young man giggle.
He paused underneath a small tree and stared up at the few clouds that remained in the sky. One of them looked a bit like a seahorse, he noted. And another, like a unicorn! That was cool. He still couldn't get over the fact that unicorns were real. Oh, golly goose, he wanted to see a unicorn. Well, one day!
And then, as he began to smile down at the grass, his gaze caught on a flash of colour in the sky. Oh, giddy goodness, was that —? Oh, it was!
He wished he'd had his phone with him to capture the image. A double rainbow, faint but shimmering in the early-morning sky, rose over the mountains and over Beauxbâtons's castle. The golden-hour sunlight complemented the flash of iridescence most beautifully, painting white castle in blends of orange, red and yellow all while the purple mountains provided the most artful contrast. If only he could paint it! If only he could make a mosaic of it. But for now, simply watching the beauty of the world was enough for him.
