I stared up at the dusty shop. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years.
There were wands in the front window on plush, dark plum, velvet pillows.
I entered the shop.
It had a smell of old parchment and something that I couldn't put my finger on.
I flinched just slightly when I heard his slightly creaky voice.
"Ahh, Miss.Blackheart, I was wondering about when you would appear in my shop. I remember the wand that I sold to your uncle, 13 inch, charred walnut wood, with dragon heartstring, a rather noble wand. But, I believe that your wand will be quite different.
I stared at him.
"Well"
He said, not waiting for my response.
"Let's see what your wand will be Miss Blackheart."
I managed to get out that he could call me Nyx, and the old man smiled at that. Then, we started.
I tried 50 wands, none of them compatible.
Mr.Ollivander seemed to be getting a kick out of it though.
"Ooh! What joy! Finally, a challenge!" He said, rather gleefully.
I tried 75 more wands until he said, with a rather thoughtful look on his face,
"Perhaps... Possibly"
He continued to mumble under his breath as he went to the back of the store, coming back 5 minutes later with an inky black wand case with strange silver runes on the sides.
"Try this one dear."
He said, holding the black wand out to me.
I stared at the runes on the sides and the black stone at the end.
I grabbed it.
Black and silver sparks flew from it and the wand glowed in my hand.
This was it.
Every bone in my body screamed at me that this was the wand. "Interesting. Very interesting.
Mr.Ollivander mumbled.
"This wand has been in storage for as long as I can remember, Miss Nyx.
A wand of 27.2 cm, crafted from black walnut wood and containing a phoenix feather core... intriguing. Now, let me tell you about what such a wand means.

First, the wood—black walnut. It is a wood of great depth and mystery. It’s one of the more rare woods used in wand-making. When you see a wand of this type, you know you're dealing with something more intricate. Black walnut is known for its strength, but not in an obvious or brute-force manner. No, it is the type of wood that requires patience and understanding to fully master.
Black walnut is, in essence, a wood of mystery. It thrives in the hands of those who possess depth of character. This is not a wand for someone who lives on the surface of things, but rather for one who is introspective, strategic, and who carries a certain weight in their soul. It seeks a person who is comfortable with complexity, and who can embrace difficult decisions and paths.

When it comes to how the wand feels in your hand, it's more attuned to those who are intense, perhaps with an element of stoicism. If you are someone who’s been through trials, perhaps suffering or hardship, black walnut will resonate with you. It demands respect—you must not take it lightly, for its power is not freely given. It requires a certain balance in the wizard’s heart: inner strength and the ability to be both fierce and wise.

Black walnut wands are known to be highly sensitive and respond to subtle emotional changes. If you are not in tune with your emotions, this wand could become temperamental. It is a challenging wood, and the wizard or witch it chooses must be mentally disciplined, capable of understanding the complexities of their own inner world. This is not a wand for the faint of heart or for someone who wants to avoid the deep questions in life. It is a wood that thrives in those who have a sense of purpose, resolve, and perseverance.

A wood that seeks a wizard of strength, complexity, and perhaps a certain… intensity. Black walnut is an excellent choice for those who do not shy away from challenges. It is not a wand that will bend to your will easily; no, it demands a certain respect. It’s for those who have an inner fire, a strong personality, and are not afraid to embrace their own complexities.

As for the core—a phoenix feather—well, now, this is a core with a reputation, isn't it? Phoenix feathers are most remarkable, and only the most extraordinary of wizards or witches will ever find themselves in possession of a wand with such a core. This is a core that is often linked to exceptional wizards and witches—those who possess great potential, but who must earn their place in the magical world. The phoenix itself is a creature that represents rebirth and renewal, often rising from its own ashes. It’s a symbol of resilience and transformation—traits that are embodied in the wand.
A phoenix feather core is rare and difficult to master. Wands with this core are said to choose their wizard, and once chosen, the bond is profound. The magic that flows from this core is powerful—but it is also unpredictable, capable of surprising even the wielder. A wand of phoenix feather might produce extraordinary feats of magic, but it can also be temperamental if the bond between wand and wizard is not quite right. Loyalty is the key here, but it must be earned. The wand’s true power is unlocked only when the wizard understands their own purpose and destiny.

Phoenix feather wands are emotional in nature. They can amplify the emotional state of their owner. So, if you’re angry or frustrated, your spells might become more volatile. But if you are focused, calm, and have clarity of heart, the wand can help you achieve great things. A phoenix feather also imbues its magic with a certain grandeur, as though the magic itself has a bit of flair—a brilliance that is as much about the intensity of feeling as it is about precision.

In the hands of the right wizard, a phoenix feather core can achieve greatness, but it also requires that the wizard undergoes a kind of personal transformation. After all, a phoenix rises from the ashes. So too, this wand may push its owner through challenges, only for them to emerge stronger, wiser, and more attuned to their magical abilities.

A phoenix, after all, is a creature of rebirth, of renewal. So, too, is this wand—its magic often linked to the wielder’s capacity for great change, great growth. Phoenix feather wands tend to be rather… temperamental. They require an owner with both strength of will and an open heart. It’s said they can be rather tricky, a bit unpredictable. But in the hands of the right person, they will offer tremendous power. The bond between wand and wizard is profound; if it finds you, it will be loyal, but it must be earned.

Now, about the length—27.2 cm. A somewhat shorter wand than most, I’d say. It suggests someone with a certain finesse. Not one to make grand, sweeping gestures, but rather precise, calculated. You’d be someone who favors subtlety, agility, and perhaps even a bit of swiftness in their movements.
27.2 cm is relatively short for a wand, but it tells us something about the wizard or witch who would choose this wand. You see, wands of shorter lengths tend to favor those who are more agile, nimble, and precise in their magic. Longer wands often indicate a wizard who prefers grand gestures or a more sweeping approach, but shorter wands, like this one, are suited for those who work in fine details. The 27.2 cm wand suggests someone who prefers subtlety, someone who works with precision rather than power for power's sake.

This length speaks to a wizard who might be a strategist, someone who thinks ahead, and is not easily swayed by emotional outbursts. Precision is key for you—you will be more adept at using spells that require fine control and accuracy, like charms, transfigurations, or perhaps even potions that demand exact measurements. You are likely someone who has a sharp, analytical mind, able to read a situation and react quickly—but with careful consideration.

So, what does this all mean together? A wand of black walnut wood with a phoenix feather core and 27.2 cm in lengthis not for the faint-hearted. It is a wand for someone who is destined for greatness, but who must first understand themselves and their path. It seeks a wizard or witch who is complex, intense, and willing to face the challenges that life—and magic—will throw at them.

You may find that this wand chooses you if you have already faced challenges and come out the other side stronger. It may test you, as phoenix feathers often do, pushing you toward your true potential, but the bond you form with it will be deep and transformative. If you are ready to embrace the responsibility that comes with such a wand, it will not disappoint.

This is a wand for someone who is strategic, focused, and emotionally attuned. Someone who has the patience to understand their own complexities and the resilience to grow from every challenge they face. This wand would find itself in the hands of a wizard or witch who, while still growing, has a deep reservoir of inner strength. Someone capable of great change—not just in themselves, but in others, too. A wizard of vision. A strategist. Not one to be rushed, but someone whose every move is deliberate and powerful.

Yes, this is a wand for someone who is not afraid to embrace their destiny, to wield the power of change and transformation. Someone who can navigate the unpredictable nature of both the wand and their own path in life. It is a combination of strength and finesse. A bit like a great phoenix rising from the ashes, wouldn't you say?"

I stared at the wand.
This was a wand of great power.
I payed the price that the man told me and left the shop.
But before I could open the door, the old man called out to me and said when I turned to face him.
"Miss Nyx, that wand is powerful, but in the wrong hands, dangerous.
Take good care of it.

I understood the warning that he gave me and thanked him before I truly left.
Today I had gotten my wand. And it felt liberating.
