Vera was a bit of a hoarder.

She was well aware of the fact (mostly because her brother Matt would always get into her stuff and point it out). Unfortunately, it turns out that when one doesn't share a house with four other people willing to slowly discard of one's trophies, said trophies just... pile up.

Exhibit A: the back corner Vera's desk in the dorm overflowing with random pretty rocks she had found on her walks around the Castle and the Grounds.
Exhibit B: a big canvas pouch hung on one of the bedposts of Vera's top bunk, also, overflowing with random pretty rocks she had found on her walks around the Castle and the Grounds.
And finally, Exhibit C: one of the pockets of her cargos spilling random pretty rocks she had found on her walks around the Castle and the Grounds all over the dorm floor when she tried to fold them into her wardrobe.

Overall, not her proudest moment.

And that is how Vera found herself trudging down to the Great Hall with a freshly stripped pillowcase full of rocks over her shoulder - a teenage beard-less parody of Santa in ratty joggers. She would've sorted all her precious stones in the dorm but frankly, after trying for solid fifteen minutes, she could not for the life of her fit all of them on her desk and taking up the entire floor felt inconsiderate. The long Ravenclaw table was obviously the next best choice.

She did her best to ignore any and all eyes that might potentially follow her as she sat almost at the very head of the table. This way she would be the most out of anybody's way, she reasoned to herself.

The pillowcase rattled on top of the table with the signature creak of stones rubbing against each other. It must've been at least halfway full at that point. If only her mum was there to see that. The talking-to she'd have got.

Good thing she's not here.

And with that, Vera started sorting. Hunched over the pillowcase peppering rocks all over the tabletop, she was determined to at least halve the amount.

Spring was finally here! Mahlioz was ridiculously excited for someone who lived in a dorm under the lake and didn't really like the outdoors that much. But that was kind of the reason anyway - the outdoors were cold and mucky, and spring meant they would be less cold and mucky! She could go outside to do archery. She could climb trees with her friends. She could take in the magnificent sun (gods, how they'd missed the sun). There were flowers and plants and it meant summer was coming, finally.

Today was going to be a good day. They had decided to ignore their homework and leave it for future Mahl (sorry future Mahl) to go to the Great Hall and read. As happy as they were that it was spring, it was still only the beginning of spring and it was freaking cold outside (thanks Scotland). However, the Great Hall gave off all the sun and blue sky you wanted without any of the cold gusts of wind. It was going to be perfect.

It was going to be perfect, until Mahlioz inevitably got distracted, because there were people in the Great Hall. As much as they disliked people, when there were a lot of them there was a good chance at least one of them seemed cool, and on a good day Mahlioz could never help wanting to learn more about cool people. So the reading didn't last long. In fact, it was rather impressive how short it lasted, considering the Slytherin had just started the Three Musketeers which had swords (!) and the 1600s (!), both of which were objectively awesome.

Today's cool person was a bit younger than Mahlioz, and was hauling what looked like a bag of Halloween candies over to the Ravenclaw table. (Why? Because Mahlioz had always gone trick-or-treating with a pillowcase, and this bag was suspiciously pillowcase-shaped). As soon as the bag was put down on the table, though, it sounded quite a bit heavier than candy, and it was very quickly revealed that there were actually rocks in the pillowcase. A lot of them.

Mahlioz decided this was it, apologized to d'Artagnan for closing his book, and got off the windowsill she was sitting on. Some of those rocks were looking way too interesting to ignore. The swordfights could wait.
Of course, as usual, the social anxiety only started when it was too late to go back and they were right next to the younger year. That was probably the only reason Mahlioz ever talked to anyone ever - they didn't realize how hard it would be until they had already started.

She didn't touch any of the rocks, only admired for a few moments before speaking. "That is quite the collection. Did you gather all these yourself? They all look really really cool."
