Octavius was sitting at his desk, pushing up imaginary glasses up his nose with the tip of his pencil. His brows furrowed as he looked curiously at the unmarked file showing that someone had an asthma attack, broke a femur, and the treatments they were given. Maybe he knows this student, but admittedly, without a name or a year put down, it could be anyone!

Ugh. Well, he'd have to figure it out later. Perhaps this would be a more in depth analysis of every single student files in the filing cabinets. No time for that. He needed to go check on some people already lying on the beds and ensure that they were doing well.

He walked past a boy with brown hair resting his left arm on the bed as he had his head propped up and the right hand to go grab a glass of water to drink.

Okay, so the kid was fine. He stopped at the edge of his bed and turned his head to look around at the other beds. Most were empty, thankfully, but there were still a few sleeping and a few staring off towards the wall or ceiling.

He'll just have to check on them, wouldn't he?

He'd run out.

No lozenges. No patches. No gum. No cigarettes. Everything was gone, he'd smoked the last one that morning. Washed the stench off him and headed straight to the nurse.

Every inch of him had been scrubbed clean. His nails were filed, his hair was washed. In places, his skin had reddened from the harshness of the sponge. His shoes were clean too. Anything to make him regain some semblance of control. He'd washed them by hand, hung them to dry manually. It felt...cleaner. That way. Like he could get some hidden bits of dirt magic couldn't.

"I think I need help."

His voice was hoarse. Eyes red from a sleepless night spent tossing and turning, thinking about how badly he wanted to smoke. How easy it would have been to make the headache go away. But no. He wanted to quit. He wanted to stop.

A weird cough had taken ahold of him a couple weeks before, and it wouldn't let up. It was a scratchy, horrid sound that came from the inside of his chest and clawed its way up his throat.

"I know. I should never have picked it up to begin with," Draven said. The nurse had come to watch over him. Professor Octavius. He was- an alright guy. Draven vaguely remembered being in his astronomy class the year prior. Or was that two years before? Time was weird.

"I knew what I was doing when I picked it up. I knew it was expensive, and it would make me sick, and it was illegal. But I can't put it down now."

The empty pack of cigarettes was sitting in his hand. The shiny cardboard with a picture of blackened lungs was his favorite one. It was the least graphic. Not like the woman with the hole in her neck, or the guy with his tongue rotted off.

"I'm trying." he said. "I tried the patch, and it worked. But I ran out. And it's a lot easier to find cigarettes than it is to find patches. Then I tried rationing the cigarettes, and it just made me really angry."

He swallowed. "I don't like the feeling. I don't like wanting to put my fist through a wall because the hallway is too loud. It's-" he winced. "It scares me."

Octavius looked at the voice. "Yes." He answered, though not intending on it to be a cut off, in a harsher way but rather in a way that's like 'go on.' Well, he might as well just see what is wrong after all. Octavius looked down in his hands and saw cigarettes. Honestly, he was not sure what he would need to do with Draven. He did not want to do anything so dangerous to him nor did he want to get Draven somehow hooked onto something else.

He took the pack out of his hands and put both of his hands on either shoulders and looked him in the eye. "Draven, why don't we try to go cold turkey?" He asked as calmly as he could. He heard the words out of his mouth and honestly wanted to sympathize but really, he didn't know what to say. He never did chain smoke or smoke nonstop. "Look." He started, moving his hands off of his shoulders and backing up. "You need to calm down and find something else to focus on. If you're still having issues, I will see what I am legally allowed to give to you, but I cannot give you much of anything that could run a risk of causing an addiction."
