It had finally arrived!
As soon as the little package was delivered to her, Novalie dashed out of the Great Hall and sprinted straight to her dormitory, not minding the stairs at all. She flung herself onto her bed once she got inside and tore into the box, almost like a cat clawing something open in desperation, making tiny flecks of cardboard fly through the air like a little snowstorm.
And there it was - the first thing the girl saw inside was a trio of glue sticks and one little bottle of liquid glue.
"Yes!", she whispered with an excited smile, eagerly pulling them out and placing them on the mattress.
Next, her emerald eyes flicked back to the package, searching for the other thing she had requested. But as the redhead reached inside, her excitement faltered. Why were there merely two lolipops?
What the...?
Novalie spotted a letter at the bottom of the box. Dropping the candy aside, she unfolded the paper, immediately recognizing the chaotic scrawl of her older brother, Samuel. He would have to become a doctor with that handwriting. She squinted her eyes a bit, holding the letter very close to her face with both hands in an attempt to make sense of whatever he wanted to tell her.
ReducioWhat the fuck are you doing over there, Novalie?
Why in the world would you need broken glass? And why can’t you get it from where you are? Are there no windows or what?
I packed the glue like you asked, but instead of glass, you’re getting candy - something a normal kid would want, you fucking menace. I can’t believe Liam was actually willing to send you that hazard. Thank god Momma saw it last minute. You both need therapy.
Anyway, she’s making me write to you and ask how you’re doing. You already told her in your last letter, but you know how she is.
Also, have you been practicing your shape-shifting thing? What did you call it again? Metamorphmagus? How’s that going?
Nothing’s changed over here. Same dull school system, same awful political regime, same endless rainclouds. My poetry gets more depressing by the day. Maybe hearing more about Hogwarts would give me some inspiration. I still can’t believe you’re studying at a magical school. Who would’ve thought that out of all people, you would be the one to end up there?
- Samuel
Novalie let out a sigh, lowering the letter.
How disappointing. Why wouldn’t her mother let her have glass? It was just for a little experiment...
Samuel had a point however - she could just break a window here. Of course, the Ravenclaw had already considered it before but simply assumed that Hogwarts, with all its magic, would surely have protection spells against vandalism.
Then again... had she tried? No.
Decision made. Samuel was truly a genius.
Novalie and Cirrus would have to test whether the windows of Hogwarts could, in fact, be broken with sheer violence.
Stuffing the glue into her robe pockets, the girl slipped out of the dorm again and into the corridors, making her way toward the Hufflepuff common room to pick up her friend. It didn't take long until she reached the lower levels, spotting him standing by one of the tall windows.
Could it be? Had he already thought of the same thing?
"Cirrus!", Novalie called, rushing toward him.
She skidded to a halt, grinning wildly as she pulled the glue from her pockets.
"Were you already waiting? Look what I got!"
The Metamorph grabbed his arm, shoved the glue into his hand and then pressed them firmly to his chest to keep them from falling.
"Take these. I’ll try one too, but first-"
Her gaze flicked toward the window he had just been staring out of seconds earlier.
"I’m getting the glass."
Glancing around, she searched for something to break it with. Unfortunately, the redhead didn’t know a spell to explode it yet (or something similar), so she had to go about this the old-fashioned way. Her eyes landed on one of the nearby metal torches mounted on the stone wall.
If they could get one of those...
"Let’s make a robber ladder!", Novalie declared, pointing at the torch, "I should be able to reach it!"

Novalie smiled wider when her friend not only agreed to help with the robber ladder but immediately went into position without any delay.
Cirrus was always fun, and super trustworthy, and a great partner for great ideas like that! He kind of reminded her of Eric, literally just with brighter hair. There were so many similarities between those two as well! Whenever she spent time with them, the redhead felt calm, she felt as if they were the human version of meditation music. Not that Novalie would ever actually listen to that - hella boring - but as people? That chill vibe? Super cool!
Once Cirrus crouched and offered his hands, she gave a quick nod and sprinted toward him. Without a second thought, the Ravenclaw stepped onto his palms, balancing herself with one hand on his head while stretching the other up toward the torch that was just above them. After a few attempts, her fingers grasping and slipping, she finally managed to wrench it free!
"Yes!"
Her success clearly showed with a huge smile on her face when she casually hopped down, holding the torch up triumphantly - only now realizing, up close, just how ridiculously large it was. The girl swung it playfully in front of Cirrus’s face.
"Whoa, check this out!", she said, striking a few exaggerated poses like she was in a duel with him, "You could take this thing into battle! Can you imagine if wands were this huge?"
Laughing, Novalie continued her little act and quickly instructed, "Oh I know, kneel down, kneel down! Imma hereby knight thee, Sir Lancirrus!"
She raised the torch with mock solemnity, prepared to tap him on the shoulders like it were a sword in her hands.
The girl could picture it pretty well: Cirrus in full, shining armor, or maybe in a long, distinguished cloak, or both! Looking every bit the noble knight. It suited him, honestly. Yeah, she would definitely charge into battle alongside him, fighting tyrants and monsters with smooth, synchronized maneuvers that would strike too fast for anyone to react, like CHEW and CHAP and-
Wait.
Novalie blinked and looked down at the torch again.
It was made out of wood.
Her head whipped around to the the now empty metal sconce on the wall. Oh, crap.
For whatever reason, she’d assumed the whole thing was out of metal, but of course it wasn’t! The torch itself was obviously wood - only the tightly screwed mount was what she had actually wanted.
She stared at the oversized stick in her hands again. There was no way this would break a magical school window.
Her smile faltered briefly, doubt about to settle in... or was it?
Out of nowhere, a new idea sparked to life! Back home, she'd shattered a window with solely a ball once - by accident, clearly - so why wouldn't it work with this as long as they used enough force?
"Hey, Cirrus...", she began, turning to him with a glint in her eye, "How good are you at throwing things?"

There weren’t enough words in any language to describe how enjoyable Novalie found Cirrus.
It didn’t matter what fun ideas she came up with - he was always on board the second they met. Not just going along with it, either, but matching her energy like he’d had the exact same thought at the exact same moment.
They clearly shared the same braincell, and that was a good thing, right? Because that very braincell was doing powerful, beautiful work.
Their sync was flawless, as seen just now, from the robber ladder, to the spontanous knighting, to the silent understanding that, shockingly, the torch wasn’t made of metal after all. They didn’t even need to speak. The realization had passed between them like a spark.
The Hufflepuff and the Ravenclaw were two halves of a whole, two sides of a coin.
Two souls that fit together just right-
Wait...
Was that what 'soulmates' actually meant? Was Cirrus... her soulmate?
The corridor around them was filled with golden morning light filtering through the stained glass they planned to break, casting blurred patches across the stone floor. Dust motes danced in the air, disturbed only by the scuff of Cirrus’s shoes as he stepped closer. The girl tilted her head, suddenly aware of how gently he took the torch from her hands, his fingers brushed hers just briefly, though it was enough to make her heart skip a beat. It was warm and .. a bit unexpected. Weird, even.
Her gaze wandered to him instinctively. His honey-brown eyes caught the light like amber, and there was a little flicker of his tongue, his facial expression steady and focused. Even though th torch was oversized, he moved it easily with grace.
He said he’d been practicing and Novalie absolutely believed him.
He looked so cool...
Without realizing it, Novalie’s hair began to shift - but not into the usual pastel pink that she got whenever there was something she thought was extremely cute or when she got flustered, but rather various shades of pink streaks rippling through her crimson curls like the sky before sunrise. It started at the roots, blooming outward in soft gradients.
And then, suddenly, Cirrus threw the torch!
It sailed up into the air-
- and landed directly on his head with a hollow thunk.
Novalie gasped. Both hands flew to her mouth, eyes wide. Not because she thought it was an accident however. No.
This had clearly been a trick!
In her view, it was the coolest, most precisely executed stunt she had witnessed! How could someone even launch an unwieldy wooden torch into the air like this and have it land directly on their own head?
It was genius. It was art!
“Wow!!”, the Metamorph breathed in utter fascination.
She quickly rushed over to him and dropped to her knees beside him, the cold of the stone floor seeping through her robes, but she didn’t care at all. Her pupils had shifted to heart shapes and her irisis had turned from emerald green to a warm, fluttery pink, similar to how one would imagine cotton candy.
Novalie didn’t quite heard Cirrus mumble that it had slipped. Also, she didn’t question his crouched posture or the way he held his head, because to her, it could just him being humble. Maybe he was shy after pulling off something so impressive.
“You are so cool, Cirrus. Like - SO cool!”, she exclaimed with unwavering intensity, eyes never leaving his face, her grin as bright and excited as ever.
She scooted over to him, closing the gap between them entirely, her eagerness radiating off her. At this point, one could assume she’d probably end up clambering right into his lap, and to be honest, the girl would without thinking twice.
“And you must, like, have the strongest skull ever! How do you not even have a concussion after this thing hit you?!? Are your bones out of metal or something?!”
The Metamorph squealed, hands flying to her cheeks, “Oh my god! Like, what if you headbutted the window? I believe you'll be able to shatter it!”
Novalie bounced excitedly on her knees, her whole body vibrating with admiration for her friend.
“Cirrus... you’re totally a superhero.”

Cirrus couldn't even bare to glance over as he cringed hard at his own embarrassing fail to be cool Infront of his Ravenclaw friend. Why couldn't he have nailed it, at least once in his life... But to be honest once he got over the throbbing on his scalp it was kinda funny, in a mortifying way. Nova sat down beside him, her presence was enough to recognize her. That was the thing about the red-headed girl, you could feel her being from miles away, that's how much airy fiery rays she would eminate. As bright as the sun itself, like a warm summer day with a hazy film over your vision— that was only many ways to describe Nova, but her extreme presence was undeniable. But what would be said next Cirrus would have never expected in a thousand years or in ANY universe, and definitely not about him none-the-less. “You are so cool, Cirrus. Like - SO cool!” The hufflepuff body jolted at her exclaimation, coming to a complete frozen state, as if he was a marble statue stuck in a crouching position. He felt his face begin to radiate heat, as his ears and cheeks tinged a messy dusting of red and pink. The compliment has taken him WAY off guard, because him? COOL? He spent most of his time trying to be cool, but often just came off as just the same clumsy and awkward boy. "Ye really think sae?" He whispered in a soft shy voice. He could suddenly feel Nova's body touching his own. Cirrus looked up from hiding in the creases of his arms, almost hesitantly with widened amber eyes from both the proximity and what she had said— But they only opened more as he saw her... Waves of pink in all different shades, like sweet taffy dancing in streaks through her bright crimson ocean of hair fading into a seafoam of soft baby pinks. Her emerald gemstone eyes were replaced with matching soft pink accentuated with candy hearts for pupils. How did she do that?... So was at the party— Not hair dye? How could Nova change like a mood ring, was some sort of special magic he hadn't heard about? It was so— AMAZING?! "ye're really cool ower! an... yer hair an eyes—" He said as he trailed off fighting the urge to just touch one spiraling wave. Cirrus then realized her face was only inches away from his, and the Ravenclaw only got closer, her knees resting half-way over his own, it only served to make him more flustered. “And you must, like, have the strongest skull ever! How do you not even have a concussion after this thing hit you?!? Are your bones out of metal or something?!” The Metamorph squealed, hands flying to her cheeks, “Oh my god! Like, what if you headbutted the window? I believe you'll be able to shatter it! Cirrus... you’re totally a superhero.” Cirrus was beet red in the face at this point in time, as the other squealed and held her face in an awe-struck manner. What was happening at this moment? He just couldn't wrap his head around it— HEAD! Oh yeah! The boy awkwardly smiled trying to get his shyness under control, he wasn't used to this amount of attention and compliments. "Superhero? ye really think sae?" He grinned genuinely before clasping her hands giving them a small squeeze. "ye're ane o the coolest an funnest people A met! an A hope we stay friends forever nova! an whatever ye want or neit ill be i yer corner tae back ye up aye!" He then looked up at the window, and tapped his chin before he stood up with a huge smile, showing off his characteristic snaggle tooth. "Should we try?" He asked gesturing his head towards the window, suggesting they actually try and us his head to break it. He then paused examining it again. "but hou wad we get ma head up thare i the first place? the easiest way wad be decapitation then throwin it— but bein dead doesnae sound fun, any suggestions?" |

NOVALIE MOON! ✩
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Novalie hadn’t noticed Cirrus’s moment of doubt, not even a flicker of it registered in her mind when he crouched down, second-guessing himself. So when he looked up at her and asked if she really thought that he was cool, the girl didn’t hesitate at all. “Definitely! Like, one thousand percent!”, she beamed, nodding so eagerly her curls bounced around her shoulders. But even as she said it, Novalie realized cool wasn’t even the half of it - Cirrus was also strong, funny, dependable, a perfect co-conspirator in fun chaos and ... good-looking ... That last thought made the warmth in her cheeks bloom into a soft pink blush that mirrored the delicate streaks running through her hair. Since when did she even pay so much attention to his appearance? By the end of the day, everyone around her was stunning in her point of view - shiny, brilliant stars in her strange little galaxy. But Cirrus... There was something different about him. As the Hufflepuff looked up at her, the sunlight caught in his caramel eyes, seemingly lighting them from within. His gaze widened, brows lifting just a bit, but she didn’t catch why. At least not in that second. Novalie was too caught up in their soft glow, the way they seemed to smile at her.. '...an... yer hair an eyes-', he mumbled, trailing off. “Huh?” Novalie blinked and glanced down at herself, catching a strand of her hair in her fingers. The color had shifted again. That in itself wasn’t strange at all - her metamorphmagus abilities were still wildly untrained - but these kinds of streaks? Multiple shades of pink, layered and shifting? She didn’t recognize them. It was Cirrus that had done this to her. Somehow, just by being him, he was drawing colors out of her which she didn’t even know she had. And suddenly, he clasped her hand. If this were a comic, a huge steam cloud would be bursting from the top of her head, her brain completely short-circuited at the feeling of his fingers around hers. And he squeezed. For a second, Novalie forgot how to breathe. She stared at him, wide-eyed, while her chest filled with butterflies and fireworks and... His compliments only made things crazier. Her heart thudded like someone had cast a rhythm spell on it, faster and faster as his words settled over her like a warm charm. “Y-Yeah, friends!”, she agreed. Friends. It was certainly a word Novalie loved, a label she wore proudly. And yet... for whatever reason, as it passed over her tongue, it tasted... bitter. Like something sweet that had gone stale. Why? For the first time in her life, the term 'friend' didn’t feel like a connection, but rather like some kind of wall. And she didn't understand. Cirrus stood up and looked down at her, his usual soft smile doing dangerous things to her heart. He probably didn’t know what he was doing to her, how completely enchanted she was just from the way he glanced at her. Then, he suggested actually using his head to break the window. And to be fair, that was a fantastic idea. Except - how to reach the window? That was the problem. “Well.. probably not if you just lie in your grave forever.”, Novalie commented with a shrug to his statement of death not being fun, standing up with her usual sparkle returning, “But like, if you get to haunt people, float through walls, go on creepy ghost adventures?” She grinned, “I’d try being dead. Just not with the risk of it being hella boring. But hey, we all get to try it someday one way or another!” However, they still had a problem: No broken glass meant no glass to taste... “Oh! Oh - I know!”, she gasped, “We could, like, transfigure the glass into sand, and then use the reversal spell once it’s all on the ground!” Heck yeah! Finally putting the Glass-to-Sand Spell to good use! With a flourish, she pulled her crooked wand from her robe, brandishing it toward the towering window, “Quarzicum!” There was a shimmer, a vibration in the air like the breath before a storm and then .. the window lost its shape, the glass pulverising itself into fine, glittering grains that crumbled apart. But- A sudden gust of wind howled through the corridor, and just like that, most of the sand blew right out the other side of the building. Novalie paused, staring blankly at the few grains that had managed to land in front of their feet. "...What the fuck?", she said, deadpan. |

X | CIRRUS NAM! HOGWARTS | FIRST | HUFFLEPUFF OUTFIT: green sweater + brown slacks SONG: Are you bored yet? by Wallows + Clairo HEX: #385370 22nd MARCH, 2025 WORDCOUNT: 711 |
Cirrus looked up examining the window, his weight shifting heavily to his right foot, closing a single eye with his tongue slightly sticking out, his hands were outreached position, perfectly framing the window within the small pseudo-square created by his angled fingers. It looked as if the boy was planning the scientific psychics required to complete such a task what trajectory, velocity, displacement, and motion would be needed to accomplish their mission? The Hufflepuff boy perked up slightly at the sound of her voice, reacting with a small laugh at her statement finding the thought of being a ghost haunting Hogwarts and scaring his peers for fun to be quite amusing, tempting even. Until he remembered the unfortunate circumstances or tragic drawbacks that come with having the blood status of being a muggle-born. He tried to think back on his lesson on Ghosts but couldn't remember much, there probably was something that was bad about being ghost right? Or else more people would most likely want to be one as well. "unfortunately, despite hou cool it wad be ane or hou badly thon A now want tae be ane. A dinnae think it's possible for um. Ahem, muggle-borns tae turn intae thaim after death," Cirrus spoke while tapping his chin thoughtfully. "i coud be wrong thouch... A really neit tae pick up more studying." Even as the words studying left his lips, he couldn't help but shiver at the thought of MORE studying, but honestly if he couldn't even remember accurately simple facts concerning ghosts then... He really needed to pay a visit to the Hogwart's Library, pick up a book and read. With her next statement his lack of proper study only presented itself as more apparent to him. "Oh! Oh - I know!” she gasped, “We could, like, transfigure the glass into sand, and then use the reversal spell once it’s all on the ground!” "that's an amazin idea! but... A dinnae know the sp-""Quarzicum!" "WHAT?!" That's all Cirrus could exclaim as he shielded his head slightly, not having much time to prepare as a shimmering spell casted from her wand, shooting the window. "YES!" Cirrus spoke with a sense of victory with a large grin. "You did it! it really workit like a char-" He stopped mid sentence as they just watched helplessly as a gust of wind took away their. "Oh." Nova's hard work, that really sucked, would they get in trouble for that? "...What the fuck?" He heard Nova's voice say behind him, he turned to look at her dead expression as she stared idlely at all her hard work standing as nothing but a few grains stirring at her feet. He felt bad but he couldn't help it, he laughed, he laughed so hard, the type of laugh that is tear-jerking, stomach ache inducing, the type that left your lips dry and cracked afterwards. He brought up the sleeve of his sage green shirt to helplessly wipe at his tear ducts, catching his breath slowly, puffing back in heaps of air to calm and steady the strike of his laughter. He looked at Nova, and again even though he felt bad he couldn't help but smile, even her cute disappointment was a cherry on top. She reminded him of a little fox alot of the time with the way she excluded so much energy, whipping back and forth here and all about, it was defintely excruciatingly heart-warming. "well maybe neist time we'll get it yeah? but for now, aw this window-breakin has left me starving," The mousy haired boy said stretching his arms slightly, before gesturing his head towards down the hall. "let's gae tae the great hall, it'll probably taste better than glass anyways richt?" Cirrus had begun to walk when he slowed his steps once again turning to look at her with a sweet smile splayed on his face. "oh, bi the way, whan ye castit thon spell juist now. Ye lookit really cool." The window missing above created a soft whistling noise and exposed the singing of baby birds, thus forth creating the peaceful ambience of serenity and symbolizing their blossoming friendship, like the budding flowers of early sweet spring. Like the season, this had only been proven to be the beginning. |
