Closed On Blood Status, and Family Trees PV Isa Flores

Magical lineage always seemed important to those who have lived in the Wizarding world their entire lives. It was a platform of prestige, and those who took it too far often used their blood status to treat others unfairly.

In the Bourne family, the value of blood status was split. Emmanuel is wizard born, by happen stance. His parents never put stock in blood purity, and raised Emmanuel to accept others no matter their family history. His Great-Grandfather, however, was a traditionalist. For the last four years, Emmanuel and his parents spent the summer living in the Bourne Manor, along with his Great-Grandfather and his Uncle's family. When he was little, Em's father was distant with his family; given their prejudice and some sort of conflict Emmanuel wasn't privy to. However, after Emmanuel's Grandfather passed unexpectedly, they were invited to the Manor as an attempt to bring the family back together, and to solidify an heir to the Bourne estate.

Today was a beautiful fall day that the beginning of the school year was famous for. Gaggles of students spent the day outside, soaking up the warmth and sun that the Scottish Highlands often lacked. They would joke around, study, play pranks, and the older students often would snog with one another (at least, until a professor caught them).

Emmanuel, however, was seated in his favorite spot in the nearly empty library. Seated in a large, comfortable arm chair; near an open window, with a small stack of books he had claimed for the day. The subjects of his stack ranged form course work, to joke spells, to books about magical beasts; though Emmanuel's attention was currently on a much older looking book. Bound in beautiful ornate leather, and filled with thick yellow pages. Em had the book open to a family tree, one that took up two pages in illustration; and several pages afterward explaining patriarchal achievements from his blood line. The Bourne Family was ancient, and often trailed into other well-known Wizarding families; though his Great-Grandfather always preached that his line is the "true" Bourne line.

Emmanuel had spent an hour tracing the family tree, noticing many of the branches either ended abruptly; or were wrapped into other families on different pages. He was filled with disgust as he read a few of the biographies on historical members of his family. Full of blood pride, and acts of oppression against muggle-borns, and half bloods alike. Em closed his eyes, and took a few deep breaths. His disdain towards his Great-Grandfather stoked, while shame brewed in the pit of his stomach. How could his parents be so different from his ancestors? And thank goodness they were.

When he reopened his eyes, they trained on the figure of young Slytherin inspecting the shelf where he had pulled this book from. She had a cascade of golden blonde hair; her skin a warm color, and her eyes a dusty blue. Em cocked his head, as he watched her search, wondering if they were on a similar mission.
