The Grand Seer's Office
Returning to Tenūsa as the new grand seer was a daunting task but some of the worries flitted away when Lawrence returned to a room he knew well. The dukun office was a room he had spent plenty of time in due to his volatile relationship with Darana, but it never felt like a punishment. From the second he entered he could see the influences that Denbeigh had inspired, even with only a little time in the position and it hurt in that melancholic way that simultaneously warms your heart and chills your spine.
Overgrown and open there is no door preventing entry to the Grand Seer's office for that would not be the spirit of Tenūsa a place of inclusion and open learning. Yet this did not mean privacy would not be possible as plants lined the entrance way that could be enchanted to grow over the doorway if necessary. As you entered the fairly large room you were met with two side alcoves and a smaller central alcove each filled differently serving a unique purpose. Books lined the walls spanning from ancient texts to modern literature, some covered partially by moss and other rogue flora and fauna, but all well maintained.
In the centre alcove lay the Grand Seer's study where a large ebony and rosewood table stood strong with intricate carvings of the stars and divination runes running across the legs. With a spectacular crystal ball in one corner and art and writing supplies in another, the desk would often be sprawled with paper or tarot cards and always contain at minimum two plants. Behind the desk along the alcove wall were a selection of tarot card decks that each Grand Seer in history added to upon their acceptance of the position. A tradition Lawrence himself would soon contribute to.
To the left one would find the sitting area, a cosy circular alcove with a plush dark green sofa and armchairs where one could host more informal conversations and chats or enjoy their time with the texts that lined every wall. A large fireplace filled the room with rich heat and blessed the space with the subtle sound of crackling firewood, soothing the mind. While to the right one would find the ritual area where the head Dukun could brew potions or store ingredients and experiment with their craft. One side to relax and contemplate and the other to enhance and drive themself. The office was a place of balance, and the presence of each Grand Seer was always noticeable in the small details they left behind like carvings and literary works. It was a place of invention and creativity, and Lawrence marvelled for it.
Small pockets of lit globelike lanterns in shades of green and beige softly bask the room in warm light during the night while the large windows allow sunlight to dance through in the day. Where typically one might find glass panes instead the windows are mere frames, yet the room is enchanted with temperature charms and always finds itself at the perfect level no matter the weather or season. The one large, windowed area behind the sitting room is broken through the right side by a lophopetalum tanahgambut tree growing through the office that holds in its branches the Grand Seer pensieve, used to rewatch the future seen in visions. Rather than prevent nature they adapted around it building the window into the trunk.
The final item of note in the room was a small circular table made of a similar blend to the desk that held floating on top of it, a model of the Isle of Divination and surrounding isles. It was a creation almost as old as the school itself and was enchanted to mirror the environmental changes of the island, reflecting everything from weather to erosion. This model helped the Grand Seer of the time to monitor the safety of their home and was used symbolically as a prayer tool. Every morning the Grand Seer would thank the island for its protection and for the safety of their wizarding kind within its borders. A reminder of the gifts they had sustained in discovering the safe haven.
Only one visitor is allowed in the Grand Seer's office at a time, but if you would like to attend in a group, please owl the Grand Seer about either coming in a group or creating a separate thread with them. Please ensure the previous visitor to the office has left and the office has been marked "Open" before you RP yourself entering. The office will be marked as "Closed" when there is a visitor within to assist with this, and no new visitors shall be accepted until the office is once again marked open.
This office thread is for brief interactions and IC questions for Tenūsa students only. For longer interactions with the Grand Seer of Tenūsa, or if you are not a student at Tenūsa, please owl me to request a thread.
When you enter this thread, you can find Dukun Lawrence Maynard doing any number of things like reading a book, drafting up school related issues at his desk, caring for the plants and tree that call the office their home, or using his pensieve. Upon entering the thread, you are welcome to lightly god-mode any action that would be considered reasonable in the setting or any one of these provided options based on what your character would most prefer to do. If you would like to do something else with the Grand Seer and you are worried it may be too much, please owl me for permission before stating so. With that being said, please keep this within reason. Please remember that while you can control his actions, you do not control his mentality or opinions. The office is OPEN for business
