Potions class was bound to be interesting today: Professor Asmaralaya was pairing them up. To be honest, Amelia was more curious than excited. How would partnering up in Potions work? She didn't have much experience with that... Amelia rocked in her chair as she considered the matter. Potions wasn't her favourite subject, to say the least. Would working with a partner make it better?

Amelia waited impatiently for the professor to call out her and her partner's name. At last, the teacher called her, along with another student: Adaryn Misfit. Amelia was familiar with the name; she knew the girl was a Hufflepuff and what she looked like. Basic stuff, nothing much.

Amelia got up from her seat, collected her things, and went to her new desk, recognizing the girl quickly. Maybe the Hufflepuff knew something about potions... Maybe she was even good at this, and could help both of them get a good grade today.

Frustrated, Amelia realized she'd forgotten the girl's name. Trying to come up with it, she put her stuff down on the table and tried to act as if it wasn't a problem. "So..." Amelia looked at her new partner curiously. "Guess you and I are partners now. I'm Amelia. Shall we start?" The girl probably remembered Amelia's name, but perhaps if she introduced herself first, her partner would follow and do the same.

Adaryn's soft brown eyes lifted from her scroll of notes to see Amelia approaching the front of the lecture hall. She'd heard about Amelia- but had not really conversed with the girl one-on-one. The idea of being assigned to someone new always made one feel a little jittery, though the thought was somewhat comforting. Ugh. At least they'd be walking away from the Potions burden together today.

"Hi, Amelia." Adaryn smiled softly, sincerely, and spoke softly, as always. She fumbled with her books and a few ingredients resting on the desk, making an effort to collect her writing and organize her thoughts. There was a tinge of nervousness in the air, but she was trying her best to ease it. "I'm Adaryn. Looks like we're tag-team partners for the day, huh?"

The instructions appeared clean and neatly printed, but first sight was always somewhat overwhelming; the comfort lay in knowing exactly which next step was supposed to come.

Adaryn felt her heart race and slight hesitation at that moment. An equally curious but perhaps a little more uncertain expression sat on Amelia's face, giving Adaryn a sense to ease her partner's nerves a little.

"I think we should probably start with gathering the ingredients..." The words drifted softly and cautiously. Adaryn chose that moment to glance back at Amelia, smile reassuringly. "I mean, we could just check the list and work that one out together? Let us first be sure we have everything." Her speech was deliberate, each word appearing to be carefully processed before verbalization. There were so many things to remember in Potions, and she wanted to make it clear.

Adaryn turned back to the board and back to the list of ingredients, pondering the order of things. She has not exactly become a Master in Potions yet, but hours of study had gone into this class. Perhaps it might not be as thrilling as Defense Against the Dark Arts, or as exciting as Transfiguration, but there was immense satisfaction from doing it right: the exact addition of ingredients, the exact amount of swirling.

Her eyes drifted again to Amelia, trying to somehow evoke some small part of mutual understanding within limits. "Uh, I could read it out for you, if you want?" she suggested, in a thoughtful small voice. "Or, you know, if you're comfortable doing that yourself. It's up to you." A glance downward at her hands, then up again with another tiny encouraging smile aimed at Amelia.

"I've uh, done a couple potions," she said. "But I know it can be a lot to keep track of sometimes, especially if we're both trying to get everything just right. So I'm alright either way, if you want to work through it together." Her hands were nervously smoothing the edges of her parchment while her heart thudded dully against her ribcage. Adaryn had always been a bit shy around new people.

The Hufflepuff had been friendly enough, as expected of people from that house. She had struck Amelia as a neat and responsible person, though. Perhaps too nervous, but responsible alright. Luckily she had said her name, too. Adaryn. Amelia repeated the name in her mind, trying to memorize it. Adaryn kept on talking in the background, but Amelia's attention wasn't on her words, but rather on her name...

Eventually a few of the words she had said registered with Amelia's mind. "Yeah, sure, list the ingredients one by one and I'll bring them over," She said absentmindedly. Amelia trusted Adaryn(yes!! That was her name! Amelia almost jumped with excitement. She had to keep it calm, though) wouldn't miss anything from the ingredients listβ€” she had parchment and her potions book in front of her, clearly ready to work.

Amelia lined up their combined ingredients at the edge of the desk, counting them. "We have most of them," she noted. "No, wait..." she took one dark blue bottle back, eyeing its label. "No, yeah, we got it. What else do we need?" Amelia looked at Adaryn as she asked, putting the tiny vessel back.

A loud bang echoed around the room. The bottle had crashed to the floor, after knocking off some brown root. Amelia stared, wide eyed, at the pieces on the floor, unsure what to do.
