⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆ "I am only brave when I need to be ,being brave doesn't mean I go looking for trouble"⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆Siobhan was no stranger to animals. Growing up on a farm meant that there was always some sort of animal lurking about wether it was her big St. Bernard, Porter, or wether it was a different furry friend who had simply wandered towards the wrong pathway in the open air. Animals were a comforting promise in a big wide world and she always intended to have one that was specifically her own. She loved Porter and his slobbery warmth to pieces but she was unfortunately barred from bringing him to Hogwarts.
Probably for good measure, he wouldn't be very happy in a tower where he had nowhere to run. And how would she take care of his mess? It just wasn't avaliable to her. But her parents had surprised her that morning with an early birthday present by explaining that if she had the funds left over from her school shopping necessities, she could purchase a pet from the Menagerie to be under her care at school.
She had been brimming with excitement and while seeing Uri had been a polite surprise, sje was far more excited to finally bring into her arms a furry or feathery companion. She would stay away from frogs or rats... that seemed the first animal that Porter would go after when she returned home for the summer. However a cat would do quite nicely, or perhaps maybe an owl? Either way she was so happy to hear the hoots, meows and croaks of the animals as she and her brother Eoghan approached the doorway.
"Are yeh sure this is what yeh want fir yar birthday?"Eoghan asked as he held the door for his little sister. She nodded determinently.
"Yes I'm quite sure. Mam and Pa said it would be my birthday present this year and I'm quite looking forward to it." Siobhan said lightly as she looked around the quaint little shop. Though quaint was hardly appropriate, it felt warm. And inviting- and overall just magical. She giggled to herself; she was always calling everything in the magical world magical. She still couldn't get over it and likely wouldn't for years to come.
Siobhan wandered the store looking at various animals while her brother made faces at the frogs and marveled over the Pygmy Puffs. She however moved towards the owls. Something sleek and regal seemed too foreign to her, and the animals almost seemed to agree with her as several of the Owls turned their beaks up at her and looked at her with a steely gaze. She gulped and moved towards the smaller owls. She was examining the feathers of a curious Morepoke Owl who seemed to be okay with her petting it's head feathers gently until it bit her. She hissed and moved away as she checked for a cut on her finger. She was beginning to think that maybe she just wasn't cut out for a magical pet when she felt something rubbing against her legs.
"Oh hello, who are you?" She asked as she knelt down to the level of a very chunky black cat. The cat sat on its hindlegs and licked its paw before swiping it across its head as if it was making itself presentable for her. She giggled and stuck her hand out gently for to introduce herself to the cat who promptly nuzzled into her hand with a loud rumbling purr. She was amazed at the softness of its fur and she gently (and with some effort) scooped the cat into her arms.
"You're quite a boistrous cat aren't you? But so very cuddly." She smiled. Eoghan, who was holding several purple and pink pygmy puffs, came over to her with a begging look on his face.
"Hey- Garden Grub- We have to get these-" Eoghan said a little dazed as the pygmy puffs trilled and purred excitedly as they climbed around his arms and shoulders. She laughed as her brother seemed to excited about the pygmy puffs.
"Eoghan those cost more galleons a piece than we can afford..." Siobhan mumured, having to be the voice of reason for her older brother who despite his big burly and strong demeanor seemed like he was about to cry like a toddler being told no candy at the supermarket. "Besides. I think I found one-" She smiled and showed him the chunky black cat that she was holding. Eoghan smiled down at his sister, knowing that she was right and that she seemed happy. And who was he to deny her the happiness that she seemed to have found in this furry companion.
Shuffling over to the counter, Siobhan extracted what she needed from her purse to pay for her tubby cat. The kindly shopkeeper looked up at her with a smile.
"It only makes sense that our largest cat should find solace with the strongest witch. That will be eighteen galleons dearie." The woman smiled at her as she handed over the money. The cat climbed back into Siobhan's arms and off they went to their adventures.
As they were leaving, Eoghan looked down at his sister and ruffled her hair, which she hated. "So what are you gonna call him?"
