The news had arrived just hours after he didn't come home. She knew something was very wrong when she saw the distort look in her mothers eyes as she read the owl over and over again. Her eyes went from once filled with joy and love to deep holes of darkness that would never be happy again. She had never seen her mother look so... empty inside. Her life was never the same after that day. When the missing signs were posted in the paper, the moving pictures of her father was what kept her going.
For days on end she would walk laps of the flower garden her father had worked on. The beautiful dahlia's in full bloom and of course her fathers favourite which she cherished as the only good memory of him. The tears she cried everyday soon ran out and she only whimpered in her mothers arms.
As time went on her mother drifted further and further away into a pit of sadness and devastation. Ana soon forgot her mothers happy face as she had learned to only see it as something to remind her that her father would never come back. People stared when they walked by, her mother always hiding and covering her face and very soon her mother didn't leave her bedroom. Day in and day out the rain would fall and thunderstorms would scare her into believing that one day her time would come and she would join her father in the land of the unknown. Happiness became something of a distant memory and everything in her house became something that reminded her of what a dreadful life she had.
The flowers in the garden drowned with the puddles the rain created their lifeless bodies floating about. When they were sure his return was not to happen a funeral was held, but no one came. The funeral just pushed her deeper into the hole that had sucked her mother to far down to save. I should be the one in my mothers position. Feeling guilty and responsible for my fathers disappearance. I am the one who asked him to go to the store to buy fertiliser for the garden. I am the one who rushed him and pushed him to go as fast as he could. I am the reason he is probably stranded on some island in the middle of the ocean. I am the reason my mother is like this. I am the reason my fathers body is probably decomposing in some forest somewhere. I am the reason my father is dead. And i will never forgive myself for letting my mother think it was her fault. I am the reason why everyone I love is in pain and will never, ever be the same again.
