It had been a long day of shopping for his new school and the soon to be first year student had one to more place to go. This was the one thing on the list he had been looking forward to the most, getting his first wand. Jaemin’s parents took his sister to another shop while Jaemin went into the store alone. Upon entering he found the shop full from floor to ceiling with boxes, presumably filled with different wands. As he looked around, he wondered what his wand would be. His father had shown him his wand not long ago but wouldn’t let him hold it. Jaemin didn’t mind but his curiosity for how it would feel to hold his own wand would finally be over today.
Jaemin went up to the counter, not seeing anyone around and pressed the bell that sat there. “Ahh~” A voice came from somewhere but he didn’t see from who. “Looking for your first wand, hm?” An older man came out and stood behind the counter, looking down at Jaemin with a small smile.
”Yes sir, are you Ollivander?” He asked and the man nodded, coming out from around the counter and going over to one of the shelves.
“Indeed, the very same.” He said as he pulled a box down from the shelf, handing it unopened to Jaemin. “Well, give it a go.”
Jaemin looked at him confused for a moment before opening the box, he was met with a black wand that looked like a spiral. Unsure what he was meant to do he looked up at the man who watched him with anticipation. Jaemin picked up the wand and gave it a wave immediately sending some boxes off the shelves and to the floor. ”I’m so sorry, sir.” He apologized as he placed the wand back into the box.
“No need for apologies, sometimes it takes a few tries to find just the right fit.” The man said, pulling another box from another shelf behind the counter. “Let’s give this one a try.”
Jaemin tried the next wand but to no luck, continuing the process for another 2 wands after that. “Hmm.. curious indeed.. Ahh! I have it! Why didn’t I think of this one before.” He exclaimed before grabbing a box off of the counter, opening it to show Jaemin. “Chestnut wood with a troll whisker core.” Jaemin picked up the wand and something just clicked inside of him that he couldn’t describe. “It is a pretty forgiving wand, bendy, good for unspoken spells and defense spells.”
Jaemin gave the wand a wave and a light lit up at the tip, a huge smile crossing his face as he turned to the man again. ”I.. I did it, I think!” He said and turned to thank Mr. Ollivander.
After paying for the wand, he returned to his family, showing off the wand to them proudly. With this he was one step closer to being ready for his first day at Hogwarts.
