From the London Ghetto
Six years earlier...
Rorie walked along the alley of the ghetto, lined with trash. She climbed the wall of a rusty building and balanced on the roof, hopping along from building to building. She kept climbing until she had a good view of the regular London street, on which there were people buzzing around, businessmen and teenagers and kids her age. She wondered if any of them were magical like her and going to Hogwarts in a few years, six to be exact. Rorie was five, and even less immature than that. A few of the passer-bys looked at her, judging her by the fact that she was on a roof and the fact that she was wearing old jeans that were starting to fall apart, a sweatshirt that was way too big for her small body, and converse that were so dirty that the original white had become a greyish brown. Her blonde hair was frizzy and all over the place, and she was pretty sure she looked mental sitting on top of a roof with her feet swinging of the edge. For Rorie, though, it was normal and not scary at all. She spent a lot of her time on the building, watching the middle class and wondering what it was like to have three meals a day, nice clothes that actually fit, a bed to call their own. Her mother struggled to support her and her two siblings, but she could normally get Rorie a couple new things every year. Rorie was thankful for that.
As the street got busier and busier after an hour, Rorie noticed more and more people staring at her. She waved and smiled, happy to be the center of attention. As they averted their eyes and continued their travel, she would call out, "Hope you have a good day!" and watch their reaction. Kids were looking at her, whether it was friendliness or judgement Rorie couldn't tell. She waved and anxiously waited a response.

From the London Ghetto
While she was yelling out for people to have a good day, she heard something sneak up behind her. It was probably a raccoon, there were tons of those in the streets. Rorie didn't even bother to turn around and check. At least, not until a huge bang, accompanied by a groan that sounded human came from the other direction. Rorie turned around and walked over there, her agile footing staying balanced on the wobbly roof.
It was a girl, about her age. She seemed okay, but there was some dust and coal powder on her face.
"Hello!" Rorie said cheerfully before switching to a concerned tone. "Are you okay? That was a pretty nasty fall!"
Looking down onto the street below, she saw the sweep the girl was using. Thank goodness not very many people used that street, otherwise the situation could be a whole lot worse.
"I'm Rorie. I live down in that house over there," Rorie introduced herself, motioning to a small shack about a block away.
When the girl wasn't looking at Rorie, she used her magical powers to lift the sweep back onto the roof. Rorie was going to be going to Hogwarts in a week and was practicing. She didn't know what to expect from a magical school, but Rorie assumed it was going to be amazing.
