Avery loved playing the saxophone. Even though she couldn't do it very much. She still remembered yesterday when she was able to play again with friends. It was so much fun! That night sparked Avery's interest and determination to play again. Especially on the weekends when she had a lot more time.

She unlatched the case and lifted the lid. The beautiful instrument lay inside in all of its glory. Her father had gotten it for her as a birthday present when she was eight, and she hadn't put it down since. She loved the crisp and beautiful sound it made when played correctly.

She gently lifted the beautiful instrument out of its case and attached it to the neck strap around her neck. Then she pulled out the goose neck and attached it to the top of the instrument. Making sure to align it correctly. If she didn't, well, you could say that things wouldn't end well. Once it was adjusted correctly, she screwed it in. Setting it in place.

Once her reed was soaked enough, she pulled it out of her mouth and aligned it with the mouthpiece. Once it was in place and screwed in, she carefully attached it to the top of the goose neck. Then she was finally ready to play. She grabbed a random sheet of music she had been working on, and did a quick warm up. Once she was in tune, she began to play the song. Letting the sweet sound of her saxophone playing get her lost in the music.

Soon to interact with @Avery Gray

Earlier that day, just after lunch let out in the Great Hall, Simon had made his way to the Rehearsal Room for some inner reflection. It wasn't so much to play the piano - which he did, or to work on writing one of his current pieces - which he strived to do; but rather to let his mind wander a bit.

It was now March which meant Spring Break was approaching. Sure, it was a later this year - but he knew it would come upon him quickly. He would blink and there it would be and he would have to at least partake in a visit with his father and he truly was no closer to solving his problems at his father's house than when he had left there over Christmas Break. Time was ticking and he had made not the slightest bit of progress, not the smallest part of a plan.

Music was a nice way to get his emotions out and he did so with each stroke of the keys earlier that day and while it didn't get him any closer to a solution, it made him feel better and that was at least a positive. Simon then went about his Sunday as normal until he realized in the Hufflepuff Common Room that he had forgotten behind his journal of sheet music to the compositions he had been working on.

That sent him back to the Rehearsal Room. As he drew closer, he could hear the music and when he got there, he didn't interrupt. Instead, he stood there, leaning against the door frame and remained quiet, allowing the musician inside to get lost into the music. Perhaps she needed it as much as he had earlier that day. One of the portrait people saw him and gave a wave and he gave a slight one back, hoping not to distract the girl with a saxophone.

Be kind to one another. (*iNPC is Miles Thatcher)

Avery had gotten so lost in the music that she didn't realize she was being watched until the song had ended and she looked up. An older boy, she recognized as Simon from the Potions Championship spectating, was watching her as she got lost in the music.

Avery was embarrassed. She still wasn't used to playing in front of people. Even after the events of the day before. She was shocked at the same time. How could she have been so oblivious to the world around her that she hadn't even noticed someone walk in? That also made her question who else had walked in and out while she was playing.

"Hi. Sorry about that. How long have you been waiting?" Avery asked the older boy, Simon, as she sat there. Sat there. Of all the things for her to do. Wow. She must have really been surprised enough that she had become flustered. She internally chided herself for getting nervous. She had to get over her feeling of failure whenever she played for other people.

While she waited for Simon to respond, she shuffled her music around. Deciding what to play next. Playing her saxophone that day made her feel like a weight was being lifted off her chest. It was as if she was a little kid again. Free from the constant oppression her family put on her.
