Well, at least this detention idea didn't call for it to start so early in the morning. Kim and Prat's monochrome outfits had inspired an idea in EmmaLee that was a little more... colorful, and it would take quite a bit less time than having a student do all the laundry without magic.
EmmaLee had told the boys to meet her in an empty classroom after lunch on Saturday and had gone about gathering wooden signs on posts, outdoor paints, parchment, quills, ink, and a few other supplies. As she did so, it occurred to her that sometimes these detentions seemed to require as much work from the prefect as it did from the students.
Once again, she cleared the area of all of the desks except for two, this time placing the parchment, ink, and quills on each desk. Then she laid out a protective sheet on the floor so the boys could paint and placed six wooden signs, the paints, and other supplies on top of the sheet, ready to be used. It wouldn't do for EmmaLee to get in trouble for there being a mess all over the floor of some random classroom because of her detention.
Shortly after she was done, the boys came into the room, and the pale girl turned to address them and tell them their tasks for the afternoon.
"As it seems that you to do not exactly understand what you did wrong yesterday, I 'ave decided that you will spend the whole afternoon thinking about it and taking measures to 'elp deter other students from following in your footsteps." She gestured to the desks.
"To start, I would like you each to write a 400 word essay. Kim, your essay will be about why it is still dangerous and ill-advised for an older student to bring a first or second year to Hogsmeade." She explained to Kim first, then turned to Prat. "Prat, your essay will be about why first and second years are not allowed in Hogsmeade in the first place. I want you both to think hard about your reasonings." Afterwards, she gestured to the signs and painting supplies.
"After I have approved your essays, you each will paint three signs warning younger years about going to Hogsmeade and you will go out and place these signs at the school exit, halfway down the road to Hogsmeade, and near the Hogsmeade entrance. Each sign must have one written warning that is clear and legible. You may choose to embellish the signs or just leave the words as they are. I'll be sitting over there waiting for you to be done." As she spoke, she gestured to the signs, outside the window, and toward the empty teacher's desk, which admittedly held her own homework she had intended to do while the boys worked.
"If there are no questions, you may begin." She said with a smile, walked over to the desk, and began her own work.
Detention Rules and Expectations
1. You will need to post one post for each part:
First post: 200 words + the 400 word essay
Second post: 600 words detailing your sign making, venturing out to place your signs, and reporting back to EmmaLee.
Minimum 1200 words total.
Making these posts without entirely completing each task will not result in a satisfactory completion of your Detention.
Once you have posted your first post, EmmaLee will approve your essay and let you move to the painting.
You two may talk and make multiple posts during the second part (painting and posting the signs) but all posts must be 600+ words together.
2. Please include your word count for each of your posts somewhere in your post and tag me in all posts.
3. You may not join ANY new RP threads until you have successfully completed this Detention. You are free to continue to post in any threads you do have that are ongoing at this time, however.
4. Remember, please, that your OOC self is in no trouble whatsoever. Your IC self could get detention everyday if that is who they are, and it would not be detrimental to your OOC standing in the community later on if you wish to be a Professor or a Prefect, etc.
5. Owl with any questions.

Prat walked slowly into the classroom, a heavy sigh on his expression and the weight of his impending detention. Kim, his "supposedly" partner in crime was there too.
Prat however did not know who this man was, he didn't even know he existed until EmmaLee lied and framed the both of these peace loving, rule following pure souls. Prat felt annoyed with how this girl who looked smaller than him had interfered in his task.
She was the epitome of annoyance at the sight; this was not what he had signed up for when he had agreed to come along with his mother and met Kim at hogsmeade, he didn't even know hogsmeade was a place until today. Yes, he was lying even to himself, he wasn't about to just agree with a prefect who managed to ruin his day.
EmmaLee, the ever-diligent form of a prefect, ugh. In Prat's view, If she could attempt to act anymore perfecty she'd strain her neck with how far she was bending over backwards to follow these stupid rules.
When she was in the midst of explaining some mumbo jumbo about detention to him, all his thought were how she sounded suspiciously like one of those muggle buzzers he had heard. Those with obnoxiously loud voice, one so irritating he wished he could fill his ears shut.
Her words were an endless stream of nails of chalkboard for him. As uninteresting to him as the latest news among goblin. Not his circus not his clowns.
Once she was done yapping, he grabbed the quill almost defiantly, his mind already turning gears as he decided ways to make this task as painless for him and as excruciating for her.
He knew he could write up a few hundred words for an essay easily, the sooner he got started, the sooner he could get out of here and back to the real world.
That however would be no fun for him. Thus, he sat down heavily at the desk.
His eyes scanned the parchment and quill laid in front of him. He was aware he had to serve detention, but he wasn't going to make it easy for her.
He glanced over at her and smiled, "Can i have a glass of water?" asking her politely. Surely if she was going to hold him captive, she'd atleast provide them with necessities. If she didn't, well that was an entirely different conversation waiting to happen.
A mischievous smile began to spread across Prat's face as he dipped his quill into the ink. He began scribbling down his thoughts, this essay was going to be award worthy.
ReducioHogsmeade, though considered among many a picturesque retreat from the rigors of our school life, is not a playground for the young and innocent students of hogwarts in any way, shape or form. The utterly enchanting village harbors a variety of problems that could lead to numerous troubles and side effects for those not yet of age. The Three Broomsticks, a favorite hangout spot of the many older students of our school, is notorious for its butterbeer. However, they famously also serve more...adult beverages. The proximity of unsupervised first and second year students to such substances could prove disaster not only for the school's reputation among the parents, but also with the ministry and those that have harbored their trust in it.
Their inexperience amplified only by their own curiosity could lead them down a slippery slope of poor choices, with severe consequences far outweighing a hangover. We all are well aware of what these kids can get up to when they get a bit too tipsy.
The village is a nexus for witches and wizards from all walks of life, including some whose intentions are either unclear or simple not as pure, no fault in that. However, Unidentified individuals, some with dubious backgrounds, pass through the village every day and their association with kids could only be considered a bad influence. The first and second years, still learning the nuances of the world outside the comfort of their homes, might not be able to discern a potential friend from foe. Their lack of experience and childish appearance renders them easy targets for scammers, thieves and those who go much lower.
On the flip side of the argument however, one has to contemplate whether these rules are truly protecting us or are they merely a prison keeping the young students from their true potential? Once could argue how staying in the castle is a rule that's meant to protect the younger kids, however what of the trouble that is stirred up within these walls everyday.
Stay with me now, these very walls of Hogwarts that are meant to shield students, is famously known for harboring multiple secrets. Secrets like the Chamber of Secrets, an argument waiting to made on how danger is not exclusively found in hogwarts but is ever present if you sign up to be a hogwarts student.
and let us not overlook or forget the brutality of Quidditch just in the favour of calling it a school sport. It's a sport where the thirst for victory often takes it's players to tragic ends. Bruises, bone break, getting knocked out and sometimes even more dire consequences.
Why should the kids not be allowed to navigate the lessons of the wider world, even with its risks, when they already do so within these high walls of Hogwarts. These experinces would only help the new kids learn to discern things much better, read other people upon meeting them and overall being a better learner of life.

EmmaLee looked up from her homework as Pratt came over and turned in his essay. She did read it in its entirety, just to be polite, and if he had spent a little longer on Hogsmeade, she may have accepted it just to get the little liar out of here. It was well written, and it wasn't like he didn't make good points. She had her own ideas about the safety of Hogwarts and Hogsmeade that she would not be sharing with him.
Instead, she turned the parchment sideways and ripped it cleanly in half just before "On the flip side of the argument however, one has to contemplate whether these rules.."
"I didn't ask for your analysis about 'Ogwarts' safety and why you should be allowed in 'Ogsmeade. You need to add another 'undred and twenty words or so on the topic I gave you." She said as he handed him back the section that was relevant. The other half, she delicately put to her ivory wand and said "Incindeo", watching for a moment as the words went up in flames and blithely, almost in a bored way, before she dropped the flames and they extinguished in mid-air.
Not going to lie. She did it entirely to see the look on his face. She hated being lied to like she was some kind of idiot who wouldn't see right through it.

Prat's heart sank internally as he watched the flaming parchment fall from EmmaLee's hand, the words he had crafted with such care and glee, she had turned them to Ashes.
It wasn't just about the essay anymore; this was now about the principle of it all.
He had worked hard on all of that, albeit on a tangent from the assigned topic, yet she had no authority to dismiss it with a mere flick of her wrist.
This puff prefect EmmaLee was now nothing better than a petty tyrant, the very kind of authority he despised. He took a deep breath, his eyes narrowing at the flames in the air before they died out.
He knew this was her only way to feel in control, to assert her own stupid brand of dominance upon those as she held them in captivity. A feeble attempt at lying to herself, to prove that she was in charge.
It was a classic case among those given a taste of power. They immediately became drunk on it. She was probably one of those kids who had been picked last for every Quidditch game she ever played and now had the chance to feel important.
He would make sure this moment shall come to bite her back one day, even if it meant playing by her rules for the moment. But in the back of his mind, he already had a plan.

The first and second years, still learning the nuances of the world outside the comfort of their homes, might not be able to discern a potential friend from foe. Their lack of experience and childish appearance renders them easy targets for scammers, thieves and those who go much lower.
Furthermore, the youthful minds of first and second years are like sponges, able to absorb the world around them. In Hogsmeade, they might become pawns in the schemes of their more seasoned elder. Seniors, armed with knowledge in deception and trickery could coerce or cajole the younger students into purchasing items for them, some that usually they would not like to be seen in association with. This not only places an unfair burden on the innocent first-years, potentially draining their already meager funds, but it also on their parents. Leading the first year to suffer from parental woes. Imagine the horror of a Galleon-less child, much worse if it was yours. Forced to explain to their Muggle parents the sudden absence of the savings. All because of a 'harmless' trip to the village where they agreed to help their senior under the guise of friendship.
Moreover, the tragic event that unfolded in Hogsmeade sometime ago serves as a huge reference to why these rules stand. An evidence for how the existence of danger can be found in even the most seemingly benign locations you could imagine, can harbor. Young witches and wizards, in the heat of the moment, may not yet possess the skills or instincts necessary to navigate such an emergency. Thus acting more as nuisance and making rescue of others even harder.
Lastle, the treats of the village, from the mouthwatering delights of Honeyduke's to the heavenly aroma of the Three Broomsticks' kitchen, are designed to lure unaware kids into a spending frenzy. The average first or second year, armed only with their weekly allowance could easily succumb to spending all their fortune on fancy looking food.

EmmaLee raised an eyebrow at Kim's cake offering.
She loved strawberry shortcake. It was actually her favorite dessert, but was this meant to be some sort of bribe? EmmaLee listened as Kim talked about it being a new creation. New to him, maybe? It seemed like a simple strawberry shortcake. She also didn't really understand why her being French had anything to do with it, but it seemed that it wasn't a bribe, so she lifted the dome and took a cake. She pulled a bright blue handkerchief out of her pocket, placed it on the table (it probably wasn't the most clean to put food on), and then placed the cake on top of it.
Before she took a bite though, she hesitated. Maybe the balls had made her a little paranoid about food outside the Great Hall, because her next thought was that it might have had something in it as a prank. She knew that Kim and Prat were not happy about their detentions, both fully thinking that Prat had some kind of right to be there and sticking to their original, ridiculous story even now.
"Thank you for the kind gesture. I will sample it in a moment." She said, hoping that either Kim or Prat would eat one before she did. She would try it either way to maybe alleviate some bad blood, at least. She was just trying to do the job she was given properly. She did know that some people didn't really care about the person behind the badge though. They just loathed getting in trouble for doing whatever they wanted.
When Prat came back to her with his new essay, EmmaLee nodded at the new second half of it and handed it back with a smile. "This is good now, Prat. Thank you. You may move on to the painting phase." Boys like these two were rather annoying. She was one hundred percent sure that she would be finding them in Hogsmeade again, but no one could say she hadn't done her duty. She also nodded in approval at Kim's essay.
Finally, when Kim came over with his signs, EmmaLee looked up at his work and smiled. "These are great. Thank you. And no, you don't have to wait for Prat." She said, cheerily. At least Kim had taken the tasks seriously, even if he didn't agree with them. She turned her bright blue eyes to meet the gem-like pair staring over Kim's shoulder. EmmaLee liked animals. All animals. Even if some girls distinguished between liking "cute animals" and disliking "not-cute animals". "If you would like to leave your snake here to keep them out of the cold, I don't mind. They are beautiful by the way." She finished with another smile directed at the snake.

Prat took a deep breath, as he observed Kim approaching The Self appointed Witch Overlord of all french dwarfs, in other words the prefect who had become the bane of Prat's existence for the last few hours. Kim approached her with his finished essay, "speedy" was all prat commented in his mind
He felt slightly competitive, a sense of wanting to catch up building within him. Deciding to shake it off with a nonchalant shrug, he picked up one of the small cakes kim had offered to him and EmmaLee and took a small bite, just enough to taste the flavours. The sweetness coated his tongue, and he could no longer feel any of the previous tension or resentment in the room until it stayed on his palate. It was strange of Kim to bring comfort food, that too for her but it was all well in the end as it tasted nice by Prat's standards.
He turned to the parchment laid out before him. Dipping his quill in the ink, he began to etch the words in bold, black letters. Each stroke was deliberate, the corners of his mouth curving slightly from satisfaction in the task. While this was a punishment of sorts, to Prat it also felt quite relaxing as he drew things on this blank canvas of sorts he had been given.
His mind thought of the art that awaited him upon completion, thinking of the vivid colors he'd use to bring the words to life. But first, he had to endure the mundane task of actually making his ideas real. 'At least I'm not getting stuck with the worse things', he thought. He'd seen someone be made to clean the owlery, this was so much better than that.
His feelings overall about the situation were a strange mix of annoyance and amusement. The cakes were surprisingly good, which only made the task of writing the signs feel more like a game than punishment. He quickly finished the last two signs, making sure to sprinkle in a few creative twists to satisfy the prefect lest she burn her creations again.
He stood up, the snake's eyes going onto the frame of Emmalee, unblinking and seemingly judgmental.
"Let's get this over with." He muttered to himself before striding over to EmmaLee. Prat wished he could throw her down the lake for her previous actions, but he had to act civil here.
With the signs in hand, he showed them to her before turning to leave the warmth of the room. The cold draft of the hallway hit him like a punch. He sighed, resigned to the fate of posting the signs in the frosty Hogsmeade air.
Prat stepped out into the cold air, the taste of the cake still lingering on his breath. He glanced at the first sign in his hand, the words "No Y1 or Y2 Students allowed to visit hogsmeade, it's for your own safety !!" staring back at him with a sense of irony.
With a swift motion, he cast spongify at the ground and planted the first sign firmly into it, making sure it was visible to any wandering eyes.
The trek to the halfway mark to Hogsmeade was peaceful, the crunch of frost underfoot the only sound accompanying him on this adventure of redemption. Planting the second sign with a flourish, the snake whispered to himself , "almost done. Just one more."
Upon reaching the Hogsmeade entrance, he took a deep breath, the scent of chocolate and roasting chestnuts from the village wafting over. The third and final sign went up with a satisfying thunk and a huge grin on his face.
He stepped back to survey his handiwork, the three obnoxious statues of rules limiting the capabilities and growth of students standing tall. Despite the chilly wind nipping at his nose, he felt a huge burden lifted. He'd done his time, paid his penance, and now he had the whole night ahead of him.
Soon he went back to report to EmmaLee.ReducioIf nothing else comes up, Prat has left the thread.
