Saturday morning sunshine with a new owl and @AngelFyre McCubbin

Saturday, 7 September 2024.

Simon had learned a few things about Perseus Kincaid in the first days upon meeting him. The first and foremost was that he was an observant, curious little fellow. At first, he didn't seem to care much that Simon was around but he would always perk up and become more alert to his surroundings, taking in the movement and what was going on. But as the days passed, he honed in on Simon, seemed to put more attention to him. Quickly he recognized that it was Simon that was his person - provider of food, who talked and sang to him in a calming voice, who had saved him from that loud noisy store in Diagon Alley. It was Simon who sweetly called him Percy or Perce and it seemed in a matter of no time at all, the small Screech Owl seemed to have imprinted on him, knowing that he was his owner and a loyalty seemed to have formed between them. No, this owl wasn't like his other pet - obstinate and mischievous. Simon was interested to see just what personality Percy would have.

He could care for him in those first days. He realized he liked having his cage only partially covered when it would be covered, giving him a shady spot if needed or some extra warmth. He adored his larger post, almost like that of a fence post, and he had a small little box of a hidey-hole that he liked to tuck into when he was ready for some heavier sleeping. This was a good set up but he knew back at Hogwarts that Percy might be happier staying within the aviary at the Owlery within the West Tower. Perhaps he could meet Archimedes, AngelFyre's owl, and the two could become friends.

Upon returning to Hogwarts, Simon knew he could learn more about his new little feathered friend. Here, within the Scottish Highlands, Perseus could take flight! It was too risky to do so back home in the heart of London but now Simon could see how well the owl could take and follow orders, if he had anything that needed to be worked upon. "Alright, mate," he said to Perseus as they found a nice spot on the grounds. The bird had been watching everything the entire time they were out, swiveling his head here, swiveling it there. Yes, it was as if Perseus was General Perseus and Simon his Field Marshall, ready to follow orders or protect at all costs. The thought humored Simon and he smiled as he stretched out his arm to a nearby tree so Percy could perch upon the limb. He hopped off, taking to the limb and maneuvered himself towards the edge, as if getting away from branches that might impede his vision. Yes, always alert and prepared, that one.

General Percy; at the ready.

A breeze blew - more like a wind, and Simon looked up to see if his small owl would be okay on the higher branch but Percy huddled down, preparing for it and ready for it and didn't budge a bit. Okay, so he was alert, practical, and could hold his ground. All good things.

"I've got a super important message for you to deliver,"
he said to the owl as he slumped down against the side of the tree, supporting his back against the trunk. The owl watched him. Simon then got into his enchanted satchel and pulled out some paper and a quill and scripted out a message, folded the paper, and then held it up. "Perce, please deliver this to AngelFyre McCubbin."

The owl was down in a swift movement, taking the paper into its talons effortlessly and sailed across the sky - just a bit of a ways away also on the grounds - and dropped the letter to AngelFyre. Simon waved to her with a cheesy grin on his face.

I'm sitting here thinking of you as I always do.

He was about to whistle for the owl to come back but Percy was already making his return. Smart. - Alert, practical, could hold his ground, smart, and perceptive. Simon wrote another for his owl to deliver. This time he placed an obstacle in place, something that Percy would have to dive around or over or through to get to and it seemed that the owl was not only up for the challenge, but enjoyed it - always returning to his owner once the task of a successful delivery was completed.
I like music, lemon drops, and you.

And another, and another, and another. Each time Percy made his delivery efficiently and effectively.
I think you are amazing.

You are my favourite person.

You're too far away.

Come over here and kiss me.

And she did.

OOC: Longstanding permission granted from AngelFyre to godmod, as she can do the same for Simon!

Be kind to one another. (*iNPC is Miles Thatcher)
