Denise spent her first few days at Hogwarts immersed in the library, studying about it's rich heritage and also completing her homeworks assigned by almost every single teacher. Even though she was knowledgeable, Denise wasn't accustomed to taking pressures in any circumstances. She was feeling pressurized for the first time in her life. She couldn't believe that she spent most of her time in library instead of enjoying the beautiful scenery surrounding Hogwarts which she got to observe while travelling through the boat swaying on the Great Lake towards Hogwarts which is done as a customary tradition for first year students. She wanted to relive the fresh soothing air swiftly brushing against her cheeks and just wanted to get out of the library. At this point, any excuse was enough for it.
♪♪♪
Denise stepped on the grounds near the Great Lake. She could hear her heart pounding. Finally, she could see why her mother said that Hogwarts was going to be her second home soon and it will feel as if it becomes beautiful by each passing day.
Denise put her hands inside the pockets of her winter cloak. It was chilly outside but worth the trouble. The thin sheet of snow fell beautifully upon the grassy grounds, like icings on a pistachio cake.
Denise shook her head, now's not the time to distract herself with foods. She has come here to enjoy the beauty of Hogwarts, not make herself hungry with unnecessary thoughts.
She stepped leisurely towards the Great Lake, taking her merry time. She was watching the crystal clear surface of the Great Lake which seemed as still as ever. Amidst her excitement of going out on the grounds, she had forgotten to wear her boots and instead wore normal shoes. What could possibly go wrong, right? That's what Denise thought as well. But then she took a wrong step, an accidental slip and whoshhh...
The embarassing situation would have ended then and there as supposedly no one was watching but, the problem was- Not only did Denise slip on the ground but pushed someone in front of her into the Lake as well.

Speech -- Thoughts

The Great Lake was truly gorgeous. Pam hadn't come to the large waterbody too often, caught up with the library and the Astronomy Tower. But the Great Lake was practically flawless.

And then there was the snow. Pam had seen snow all her life, and yet, it never seized to amaze her. And the white sheets made the school ten times more beautiful than normal. Pam sighed, leaning back on her hands, buried into the snow. Winter was barely setting in, and it was not so cold yet, in the sense that she was not dressed like a penguin yet. She soon would be though. She loved winter, but it always seemed to take it upon herself to turn her into a popsickle. Unfortunately, she was pretty sure her body would not be able to take it. Also, she did not wish to be eaten as a snack.

She siddled closer to the water, leaning over her legs and dipping a hand into the water. As she sat back up , something, or someone, smacked into her and she somersaulted over her head, falling into the water. She rose up at once, and looked at the newcomer in mild shock and smiled sweetly, "Hey, are you alright? Did you fall?"

You would wish that was what happened huh?

The reality was not as cool or as nice. She did not somersault over her head. She fell sideways and rolled into the lake on her face, receiving a mouthful of water, NOT MEANT FOR CONSUMPTION. Then she returned to the surface, spluttering from the cold and said something extremely intelligent, such as, "nhgg ughh". After gaining enough coherence, she pulled herself out of the water, looking like a well-bathed cat and shivering with an intensity that would put the sun's surface temperature to shame.

She threw the girl in front of her a dirty look and snapped, "Watch where you're going!"

Denise was utterly shocked at first. Wow, what a great way to start Hogwarts. She didn't get hurt from her slip as the ground was covered with snow but the point that concerned her the most was- did the person drown in the Great Lake? Denise didn't get up, she was still shocked and kind of bewildered upon the fact of unintentionally pushing someone into the Great Lake. Won't the lake be just too chilly? What should she do? She doesn't even know any spells.
Denise gulped really hard, now what? Her social anxiety was at it's peak right now. Is she supposed to just run away? Can she just leave Hogwarts at this point? I mean, what will others think if this occurrence gets out in the premises. I bet I am going to be cooked alive by the end of the supper, Denise thought.
As she was lost in the thoughts of preparation for her pre-funeral, the girl who got pushed into the Great Lake rose up. Denise's breath stopped. Hopefully the girl didn't drown but she was sputtering with cold. What Denise expected was a scolding but instead she heard the girl groan. It was understandable, who would wish to get soaked in cold water just when the winters are beginning?
The girl looked towards Denise and her heart gave an enormous leap. She made her way towards the ground, shivering all over. This was it Denise, get prepared as your titanic is about to drown.
"Watch where you're going!" The girl snapped with a supposedly nasty look.
Wait, did she just give me that look? Denise thought, flabbergasted at being received with such an attitude. Yeah, it was her fault that the girl fell into the Lake, but she also slipped along with her. It's not like only the girl was hurt or something.
"I am sorry but I was watching my way. Isn't it your fault as well that you sat so near to the Great Lake?"
Very well, Denise, now you have been officially marked as a fool who has just blabbered nonsense without a second thought.

Speech -- Thoughts

Pam scoffed, narrowing her eyes at the newcomer. She would have probably let it go if the girl had just apologized, but the second sentence from her made all thoughts of potential forgiveness vanish into thin air. This girl...is she stupid? She rubbed her head, "My fault for sitting near the Lake? Have you never sat near a body of water? I've seen people sit close to the Lake all the time. It is not everyday that someone gets karate kicked into the water." She threw a girl a look, "You know, one would expect another to watch where they are going."

Pam shut herself up before she said any more. She knew she could be rude if she opened her mouth while she was riled up. It was something her father had told her a number of times, that even though she did not get mad very easily, she tended to run her mouth when she did. And it was not pretty.

Well, she was working on it.

Even now as she looked back at her words, she noted some words she could have done away with. Karate kicked? What on earth... She shook her head. Well, the damage was already done. Besides, this girl had just landed her in the water and then had the audacity to say it was her fault?

Pam was gonna give her some more words if she did not understand her fault in this.

The girl scoffed and narrowed her eyes at Denise which put her off-guard for a moment. It seemed as if the girl was contemplating something big. She rubbed her head and said, "My fault for sitting near the Lake? Have you never sat near a body of water? I've seen people sit close to the Lake all the time. It is not everyday that someone gets karate kicked into the water." She threw Denise a supposedly are-you-stupid look, "You know, one would expect another to watch where they are going."
Denise was left silent. What the girl said wasn't wrong, but Denise's ego got a bigger hand over her logical reasoning. She could no longer think straight, like a person driven with the power of maintaining her prestige. What mattered to her was her ego and she was ready to fight over an absurd reason even if it was her fault. She couldn't just accept it. A spoilt brat of Garcia family with no proper guidance, this situation was something she was encountering for the first time- accepting her fault. It was not her piece of cake and she was determined to counter back the girl's statement.
"You are right, it's a common spot to sit, but may I remind you that my action was unintentional? Why would I trouble myself by pushing someone like you into the Lake? Karate-kick is a very fancy name to give to my so-called mistake but I am a human and I have the right to make mistakes."
Denise folded her arms and stood in a confident position, more likely with an arrogant attitude. "Atleast you didn't drown." Denise mumbled but loud enough for the other person to hear.

Speech -- Thoughts

Pam looked at the girl in utter disbelief, "What do you mean someone like me?" Was this girl a pure-blood? Maybe belonging to one of those families which raise their children like they were born to rule the world? Pam had been lucky enough to not have encountered any of those at all. She really did not want to start now.

She wasn't going to run away from this girl either.

You have the right to make mistakes because you're human? These words made Pam roll her eyes and respond saying, "Human enough to make mistakes but not mature enough to own up to them and apologize it seems." Oh, she was going places with her mouth. Well, she definitely wasn't going to back out now. Pam did not like people who couldn't admit their mistakes. Like seriously, is their ego so huge that one second of admitting they're wrong would kill them?

Oh hey, that's a good line to use!

She was getting sidetracked, well not for long, as the girl commented that she had atleast not drowned and Pam found herself gaping at her again, "Not drowned?! Yeah, good for you, isn't it? Imagine being expelled from school for manslaughter at 11 when you've barely been here for three months!" Pam stopped, realising what a good point the girl had made. She had been truly lucky that the edge of the Lake was not too deep. And that my dad forced me to learn to swim.

"What do you mean someone like me?"
Denise was confused. Why was this girl twisting her words? She simply meant to say that the girl was a total stranger for Denise and she wouldn't go out taking revenge for absolutely no reason from a stranger. Should she possibly reconcile with this girl and clear up her arrangement of words?
"Human enough to make mistakes but not mature enough to own up to them and apologize it seems."
This was it. Denise's good thoughts vanished at a flash. Seemingly, this girl didn't know how to keep her mouth shut for a second and listen to the second party.
"Not drowned?! Yeah, good for you, isn't it? Imagine being expelled from school for manslaughter at 11 when you've barely been here for three months!"
"I apologized to you for once before if you remember- oh wait, aren't you a forgetful one?" Denise gave a short laugh and continued, "I wonder how you cope up with your studies. I would certainly expect less from you."
Denise gave a slight pause and cleared her throat, waiting for a reaction. When none came, she continued, "I can definitely not imagine being expelled because it's not possible. With the position of my mom, I am certain that the ministry of magic will be happy to back me up. Besides, there's no use in imagining things when you haven't died yet."
Denise rolled her eyes and said, "Now that I think about it, getting expelled was a better option than arguing with a stubborn person like you."
Seriously, this stupid conversation could have ended ages ago but all this girl could do was increase it to the level that Denise has to now bring up her mother's background in order to protect her dignity.

Speech -- Thoughts

Pam couldn't help but laugh, although it came out harsh and not amused at all. "I assure you I am not forgetful. It seems like you don't really know how to apologize properly." She flashed the girl a cold smile, forgoing all attempts at being civil. The latter did not seem like she was going to back out, so why should she? She continued, letting her voice sound like she was chiding a five year old kid, "You were doing very well, until you mentioned that it was also my fault for sitting on the ground near the lake. In a decently empty place, if I may add. Then you messed it all up."

Then the girl mentioned that her mom worked in the Ministry of Magic and some whatnot Pam couldn't quite understand, and Pam found herself gaping at the girl in disbelief for the second time that day. At first she thought that she was finally at a loss for words, before she realised her lips were twitching and a bubble of laugh was about to escape her. No wait- that's too much- Her father had told her that laughing at a person's face was one of the rudest things you could do to them, and Pam sincerely tried to avoid it. But the thing this girl said....

The laugh practically exploded out of her mouth, nearly ripping her jaws apart and Pam laughed for a good two minutes, before finally saying, "Jesus Christ, you're funny. Is this how you're raised as a magical child? I'm suddenly sorry for you-" She cleared her throat, schooling her facial features, "Anyway, if you're seriously expelled one day, will you seriously sue the school?" Pam tried to remember how many times that had happened in the muggle world. She wasn't very updated on such muggle events, but probably not a lot of times. "You should try a muggle school sometime."

The girl laughed and said, "I assure you I am not forgetful. It seems like you don't really know how to apologize properly." Denise gritted her teeth.
"You were doing very well, until you mentioned that it was also my fault for sitting on the ground near the lake. In a decently empty place, if I may add. Then you messed it all up."
Oh wow, so this girl has made up her mind to not acknowledge her fault, huh. The girl suddenly started laughing, as if she found it so funny at her parents being involved in this matter. It seemed to last for a century and Denise found it utterly shameless. She felt like getting out of there but the girl spoke up again, "Jesus Christ, you're funny. Is this how you're raised as a magical child? I'm suddenly sorry for you-" There was a pause, which was long enough to give Denise the time to contemplate on how unruly this girl seemed to be, judging her when she doesn't even know what Denise has gone through her whole life. Being neglected by a family might seem like a small talk but it hurts like hell. "Anyway, if you're seriously expelled one day, will you seriously sue the school?" The girl spoke up again. She has this nerve throbbing attitude of continuous blabbering which can make even a decent person go mad with frustration. Denise should be the one questioning her upbringing but she seems to be tangled up in a canon event.
"You should try a muggle school sometime."
This was the limit. Is the girl mocking Denise that she isn't capable enough to attend Hogwarts? What does she think herself to be, the know it all queen? When she has no solid back up at the background, how dare she have such guts to argue back? Denise was at a complete loss for words. She wanted to cry, her soft spot can be activated at any moment and at any given time even at small scoldings. But she isn't someone to let her ego go so easily and swiftly. She used to cry at home as she knew that the elders would stop scolding her out of pity and feel guilty instead. But this girl didn't deserve to see Denise's pitiful site.
"Yeah, I messed it up? Very well. What are you going to do about it? Run away? So be it. You have got no power to make me apologize at my own will. Yes, I have magic flowing in my blood but at the same time I respect muggle cultures and appreciate them a lot. I am a half blood and have knowledge about both the world unlike you. You- you have absolutely no rights to judge me by our encounter when it's-" Denise broke off. Her voice was trembling all along and she couldn't keep it up anymore. She clenched her fists really hard. Not now Denise, not now... control it.
"Are you done with mocking me or do you have more? But keep in mind that I have absolutely no willingness in apologizing to a narcissist like you."

Oh? Seems like I've finally hit a nerve. Pam bit her lip, torn between feeling both proud of herself and rather sad for the girl.... who's name she still did not know. Not that it mattered anymore. She wasn't planning on meeting the girl again if she could help herself.

But she couldn't help but retort angrily, "I'm the narcissist?! You're the one who wanted to involve her mother to persuade the government to prevent you from getting expelled!" The words tasted bitter in Pam's mouth and she scowled; her words had struck unexpectedly close to home. I wish I wasn't progressively forgetting what my mother's face looked like.

And then she sneezed.

Like seriously, talk about an icebreaker. Of all the things that could have happened, it had to be the first indicator of the fact that she was catching a cold. How embarrassing. Well atleast it gave her an incentive to run away from there and the situation which had quickly turned in a direction best left untouched.

And so, she turned to the girl again, fixing her with a cold glare and as if she hadn't just nearly blown her head off, said, "Well, I'd you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go deal with the cold you've ended me in." And, unable to hold back a last jibe, added, "Talk about having to clean up someone else's mess." And then, before the girl could say anything, she turned and marched away from the Lake.
