The orange glow of the setting sun cast long shadows over the Scottish town, blending in with the Christmas spirit hanging in the air. There was a little breeze flowing around, passing through the gaps between the polished wooden fence, caressing the freshly mowed lawn, then flying around a cozy and well-kept cottage to finally swirl up and evaporate in the air.
A mother and daughter were walking in the street under the Christmas lights, hand in hand. The woman was a fair figure, dressed in an overcoat. Her brown hair was tied into a messy low bun, the kind she wore to work (she had indeed just left the office), and upon closer glance her hazel eyes were incredibly warm and soft, though a little tired from the day. The daughter's features much resembled those of her mothers', the same hair and same eyes, though her eyes reflected much more youthful excitement and anticipation.
They arrived upon doorstep of the cottage, and Elisa detached her hand from her mother's to softly knock on the door (the other hand was busy carrying a rather heavy suitcase). From inside the house, came first a joyous exclamation, then some muffled footsteps and a few giggles.
Father came to open the door. He was a tall man with broad shoulders, a smiling mouth, and a cleanly shaved beard. He welcomed his daughter with open arms, pulling her into a tight hug.
"Ah Eli, welcome home my sweetest lavender honey in the whole wide world!" he said, grinning broadly and winking at his wife.
"Dad!" Elisa giggled, protesting half-heartedly, "You haven't called me that for three years already!"
"Couldn't resist the temptation", he replied, releasing her daughter from the hug. "I think somebody's playing hide and seek with you somewhere in the kitchen", he continued in a whisper, "That somebody has been waiting for you all week long - better go find him quick." He winked.
The three of them went inside. The cottage was still clean and organised, not a single piece of furniture had been replaced or moved, everything was just where it had been Elisa had left for Hogwarts three months earlier. Except the curtains, Elisa remarked, looking around.
"Found you Tommy!" she said, pulling open the curtains to reveal a small seven year old boy with ash brown hair and a face full of freckles. "Find a better hiding spot next time, you lil' guy!" she said, ruffling her brother's hair.⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤
