A Flight of Two Hearts  pet
"I'm so glad you agreed to let me buy a pet!" Pam smiled happily at her father, a skip in her step out of excitement, as she had finally managed to persuade her dad to buy her an owl before she returned to Hogwarts after the holidays.

The culmination up to that specific event had been rather....sudden. It had been more of a 'please change the topic now' than a 'please dad, buy one for me'. It hadn't exactly occurred to Pam, buying a pet of her own. But after her father listened to her talk about cute animals for a while, he suggested the idea. She had probably made him tired of her rantings by then. But Pam was never one to turn down such an offer.

And so, here she was. In front of the Magical Menagerie, midway through her Christmas holidays. "Slow down child!" Her father's voice called her calmly from behind, and Pam stuttered to a standstill, narrowly managing to avoid banging the door open and running in. She turned and flashed her father a smile, "Sorry dad. I got it." She pushed open the door and walked it, eyes widening at the sheer beauty of the animal filled place, "Oh my god," she muttered, gaping in awe. Her eyes fell on an elderly lady and Pam guessed in an instant that she must have been the shopkeeper. She approached her and said softly, "Hello, I'm here for an owl? Can I look around?"

After getting the green signal, Pam busied herself with checking out the multitude of owls in the shop. She had been sure from the start that if she ever got a pet, it would be an owl. Having grown up in the muggle world, pet dogs and cats were common, but pet owls? Now that was something she needed to experience. And it would make sending letters home easier, her brain added gleefully.

There were so many to choose from, Pam thought she'd never be able to arrive at a decision. Small and big, Pam wasn't even sure which size to go for. And the colors. God, Pam had never seen such a variety before. In a few minutes though, her eyes were drawn to a tiny owl in a cage, large brown eyes staring up at her, and Pam knelt in front of Eastern Screech, reaching out gently, "Oh my, hi there-" She could not finish speaking to it though, because it lashed out at her hand and Pam drew back with a yelp, a laugh bubbling out of her throat. "I don't think you like me much." Pam laughed, grinning at the little owl, "You're cute though."

"Kiddo, check this out." Her father's voice drew Pam's attention away from the brown owl, and she noticed her father kneeling in front of a cage, with a..... That can't actually be a snowball. My brain's just making stuff up. Pam quickly walked over to her dad, and finally noticed that the 'snowball' was actually a large white owl, with flecks of black plumage, "An Arctic!" Pam said in surprise, kneeling in front of the cage. "Oh dear lord, you're gorgeous." Pam reached out softly, pushing a finger into the cage, Please like me so I can take you home. The creature eyed her critically for a few seconds, but then finally allowed her to rub her finger on his head and did not bite her finger off. She turned to her father gleefully, "Dad look! She likes me! Let's get her pleaseee!"

And so, five minutes later, Pam left the pet shop with a new friend named Lumi.
