Quite Some Rocky Afternoon

26 December 12:37 pm
Joseph was no stranger to winter. The sheets of white enveloping the grassy fields, the snow pelting down on the earth from up above, the piercing, icy wind nipping at his vulnerable cheeks. Nothing he wasn't familiar with. Though he wasn't sure how the little fella behind him was holding up.
Partially caked in snow, his rock friend tumbled after him, its eyes twitching spasmodically. Joseph suppressed a laugh, pulling down his hood a little lower to shield his face from the biting cold.
"Almost there, pal, try to keep up for a while longer," Joseph encouraged, his voice laced with affection. He knew full well the rock probably wasn't able to tell the difference between right and left, let alone understand Joseph's words. But it didn't matter. It was, after all, rather fun having one-sided conversations with his little friend, a friend that would never judge you, would always stick by you and stare at you with those two adorable eyes.
Sigh, welcome to the world of a loner.
"Here we areeee!" Joseph exclaimed enthusiastically, dropping his hood as he ruffled the snow out of his tousled hair. It wasn't the most spentafricular of views, like one might expect, given Joseph's excitement. Before the two lay a patch of ground somehow not ankle-deep in snow, hidden away from plain sight by a copse of leafless trees. Perfect for a rendezvous with a pet rock.
Bending down, Joseph lifted the stone off snowy ground, his thick gloves crunching softly against the snow-dusted surface. His friend was heavier than it looked, it's smooth, egg-like form deceptively dense. He cradled it carefully, brushing off the last bits of frost stubbornly clinging to its surface.
"Had it rough didn't you, little guy?" Joseph whispered, stroking the little guy in question fondly. Joseph hadn't really found time to take it out for a roll in a long while, so the poor rock spent most of its time lounging in Joseph's trunk amidst his other stash of his mostly useless items. But that was about to change.
"So, first things first," Joseph started, his voice taking on a more serious tone. "We need to think of a better name for you."
Life is like a box of Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans; you never know what you are going to get.
