Avery was excited. Today was finally the day that her family would finally go back to her hometown of Swansea, Wales! There she would get to see her grandmas, grandpas, aunt, uncle, and cousin. She couldn't remember the last time they had all been together. It was probably before Avery and her parents had to leave for her mother's work. Even though she was only three when they left, she was still sad. She loved Wales. Mainly because it actually felt like home, and because she could be free. She could wander around her grandparents property for hours without anyone worrying where she could be. In London, she couldn't do that. The streets were too busy, and there was barely enough room to have a park. "Come on, Avery. We're going to miss the train if you keep daydreaming." Avery's father called from the partially open door of her room. She quickly snapped out of her daydream. She couldn't miss the train! It was the only way her parents would go to Wales! She snatched her bag she was bringing with her and ran to the front door where she dropped to the floor to put on her shoes. "Looks like somebody doesn't want to miss the train." Avery's mom laughed. It was weird spending more time with her mom. She was always so busy with work, that she rarely spent time with Avery. It would be nice to have her free over the summer at least. Then she would go back to work and leave Avery and her dad alone again. "We can't miss the train! It's the only way to see Grandma and Grandpa!" Avery told her mother. Avery's mom laughed again as she went to her room to grab the last of the bags they were bringing. They were going to stay at Avery's grandparents house, so she didn't have to pack a lot. She made sure to pack her favorite summer clothes, books, and lots of games that she could play with her cousin, Dylan. Dylan. He was probably the one person Avery was the most excited to see. They were born a couple days from each other, so they were basically siblings. Especially since their mothers were twins. Avery loved spending time with Dylan because they both loved to explore. Every time they got together at their Grandparent's house, they would spend hours playing in the woods. Most of the time the adults couldn't even find them until it was time for dinner. Not that any of them cared anyway. Avery's grandparents owned around 100 acres of green Welsh hills and forest, so the kids were safe exploring. Their grandparents even made a special barbed-wire fence around their property, so the kids would know where they were allowed to go. Their favorite place they always went whenever they couldn't find one another was a clearing in the woods. It had an old fallen log that the kids spent hours pretending to duel on it. They would grab small sticks and call them their wands before beginning their duel. The duel would usually end when one of them fell off the log laughing too hard. Avery couldn't wait to play that game for hours on end. It was their favorite thing to do, of course. "Well, that's the last of the bags. Are you ready to head to the station?" Avery's dad asked. Avery jumped up off the ground. Shoes on and ready to go. She also grabbed the bag that had fallen off her shoulder when she jumped up. She placed the bag on her shoulder. Ready to head to the station. "Let's go!" Avery yelled to her parents as she walked out to the car. Both of her parents began laughing as they grabbed their bags. It was evident that Avery was ready to go. Just like always. After what felt like an eternity to Avery, her parents had loaded the car, and were driving towards the station. Avery listened to the music playing on the radio as she watched the city. She was ready to finally be free. Ready to smell the fresh air, and see the beauty of nature. After about 15 minutes of driving, they made it to the station. As they unloaded the car, Avery heard the sounds of train whistles and trains moving. Just hearing the sounds of this made her more excited. She was fascinated with trains, so she was even more ready than before. Avery and her parents walked into the station and grabbed their tickets. Then they waited for the train to arrive. Avery danced around in excitement! They were one step closer to home! Finally the train arrived with a short whistle and gradually slowing down. Once all of the other passengers had exited the train, it was time for Avery and her family to board the train. The train ride usually took around 3.5 hours, so Avery found the best seats. She sat right by the window with her dad next to her. Her mom sat next to her father, and then they were ready. Avery knew the train ride was going to be awhile, so she pulled out a book and began to read. Reading always helped pass the time, and this book was something new to Avery. She had really enjoyed it so far, and she couldn't wait to read the rest of the series! The train ride felt very fast for Avery this time. When she asked how long it took her father responded, "Avery. You were so invested in that book that you didn't realize it took a few more minutes than normal." She was shocked. A few minutes longer than normal, and she hadn't even noticed? Wow. That book really was good. Finally they made it to the station where her grandparents were waiting. "Grandma! Grandpa!" Avery called to them as she hugged both of them. After short greetings they headed to the car that would take them to the house, and to where Avery and her family would spend their summer. She was so excited!
