A Sorting Surprise
The Platform
Today went so slowly until we got to the platform 9 3/4 then it went fast, too fast. Saying goodbye to my parents and grandparents and running towards the bricks. Graci was still talking to mom and dad and I couldnt wait to see the train so I didn't wait for my twin and went ahead. I charged at the wall and appeared on the other side. It was such a strange sensation, the sudden change of scenery and voices. I turn behind me and see Graci grinning and looking around. I grin back at her and we head over to the train to get seats.
The Train Ride
On the way there I talk to Graci about what house she thinks she'll be in and what house I'll be in. Before we left we both decided that we could both be in Ravenclaw or Slytherin together. And that Graci wouldn't be in Gryfindor and that neither of us would be in Hufflepuff. Graci told me she couldn't see me in the house of peaceful and loyal kids. And honestly I agree completely I mean I've always been a classic trouble maker, like my first instance of magic was lighting a teacher and my school on fire (see my encyclopedia page for more details). Suddenly I wonder what would happen if me and Graci aren't in the same house. What would I do? I wouldn't see her often at all unless we got the same classes! I feel Graci look towards me but I don't look back I'm too busy thinking about the upcoming school year.
The Surprise Sorting
We exit the train and I see Graci do her nervous habit. She fiddles with her earrings and bracelet and stops once she realizes it. I see her tilt her head up ever so slightly and put on a confident face, but I can see through the mask of confidence just as I'm sure she can see through mine.
We get to the great hall where there is a feast going on around us and I watch as a few kids get sorted and houses get called and soon its Graci's turn. The hat is placed on her head and it shouts...
GRYFINDOR!
Wait WHAT?! Graci in Gryfindor? Those two words don't belong in the same sentence unless its 'Graci does not belong in Gryfindor.' She glances over at me and I see an expression of shock and disbelief that Im sure mirrors my own. She heads over to the Gryfindor table and sits down. I bet I'll get Gryfindor or Ravenclaw. I really hope its Gryfindor so I can be with Graci.
HUFFLEPUFF!
Hufflepuff??? How in the world did I get Hufflepuff? I glance down at Graci and see her surprised expression. I trudge over to the table of my cheering room mates and sit down numbly. I didn't get in the same house as Graci as I wanted. I didn't care as long as I was with my sister and instead I didn't get to be with her and I'm with a bunch of people who are against chaos and trouble and all about loyalty and friendship and peace. I sigh this is going to be a long school year. Well 7 years for that matter.
