Avery was excited. Today was finally the day that she would get to go to Hogwarts. The place where she could learn magic. And prepare to become and auror. Just like her dad. "Come on, Avery. I can't allow you to miss the train. Especially not on your birthday." Arthur, Avery's dad, responded. Avery nodded completely forgetting that her birthday was today. Wow. Twelve. I can't believe it! She made sure to stay close to her dad as she carefully pushed her trolley full of her trunks toward the wall in Platform 9. She remembered what her father said. Stay close to me and run through the door. She also remembered him telling her not to hesitate. Avery took a deep breath and stared at the wall. Then she pushed her trolley and started at a run. She approached the wall quickly, and she hoped she could make it through. She shut her eyes, and when she opened them, she was there. Platform 9 3/4! She couldn't believe her eyes. The constant bustle of families showing their students to the trains amazed Avery. She was sad, though. It was her birthday, but her mom couldn't make it. Her mom was always busy. At least, that's what it felt like nowadays. It saddened her. When she was younger, her mom used to join Avery and her dad on all of their adventures. But ever since Avery turned 8, she's been busy. "Come on. I have something to give you before you have to board the train." Her father said as she followed him to an area that had less people. "What is it?" Avery asked. Curious to see what her father was going to give her. Then he handed her a small box. It's velvety exterior felt soft in Avery's hands. She gently opened it, and was surprised to find necklace inside. There was a small charm with a blue sapphire in the middle. Representing her favorite color, and her birthstone. She hugged her dad tightly. "Thank you so much! I love it!" She said into his shirt. "I thought you needed something to remember from home. Especially since your mom couldn't make it." He responded. She wiped her eyes that had tears welling up. She was grateful that her dad was able to get off work to see her off. She really needed to see him. Especially since the next time she would see him would be in June. She hugged him again before waving goodbye and walking towards the train. She boarded and began her search to find an empty compartment. All of the compartments were beginning to fill up, so she couldn't find an empty one. Eventually she found an almost-empty compartment. There was a girl inside, so Avery was hoping it would be okay if she sat with her. "Is it okay if I sit here? Most of the other compartments are full." Avery asked as she smiled.

Avery watched as the girl quickly put the book away. Avery was curious as to what it was about, but she was too shy to ask. She was also nervous. She didn't want to accidentally intrude if she wanted to be alone. She decided to open the door and step in slightly when the girl said, "Sure, make yourself comfortable. I'm Lyanna by the way, what's your name? Are you a first year too?" Avery relaxed at her question. She was glad that she had finally found a place to sit after the craziness outside. She gratefully collapsed onto the seat across from the other girl and said, "Nice to meet you Lyanna. I'm Avery, and yeah, I'm a first year." Avery smiled before asking, "Are you excited to go to Hogwarts?" Avery knew that she was excited. Her dream was always to study at Hogwarts, so when she got her letter, she was ecstatic. It was finally her chance to learn magic! She loved the stories her parents had told her about their time, and she hoped she would be able to have as good of memories as they did. "By the way, what book were you reading? I love books, and I'm always curious to find a new one." Avery asked as she relaxed into the seat.

Avery watched as the girl blushed from embarrassment about being nervous. She knew that feeling. Nervous excitement. Avery was ready to be a student at Hogwarts, but she was also nervous about what would happen. "I know that feeling of being nervous. I feel it too." Avery responded. Avery was excited to hear that Lyanna also loved books. Finally! Even though she wasn't a bookworm, that didn't matter. She had actually found someone to talk with about books! Lyanna said she was reading Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. Avery had never heard of this book, but she was interested in anything to do with them! "Unfortunately, I haven't heard of or read that book before. It sounds really cool, though! I'll absolutely look into trying to find it." Avery smiled. Avery also glanced out the window as she saw her father become a small ant in the distance. She was saddened to leave him because she had spent the moments he wasn't working with him. She was going to miss their adventures and camping trips. But now was not the time to dwell on the past. Now was the time to see the future unfold. Maybe she would have new adventures, but, for now, she would focus on getting to know Lyanna.

"That's really cool! And that's true. Muggles do act very different. I used to hang out with a friend of mine that was a muggle. We can't hang out anymore though. I actually was born and raised in Swansea, Wales until the age of three. My parents and I had to move because of my mom's work. We ended up moving to London. London's nice, but I would much rather be back home. My grandparents own a farm in Swansea, and my cousin and I used to do a version of dueling against each other when we were little. It was a lot of fun." Avery sighed. She missed those days. When she heard Lyanna offer her to read the book Avery responded, "I would love to borrow it after you finish it! I think my favorite kind of books are books about adventure. I love a good adventure myself, so I feel like I can relate to them. What kind of books do you like?" Avery was curious to get to know this girl. So far it seemed that they had a bit in common. She couldn't wait to get to know more about her and hopefully become friends!

Avery laughed at Lyanna's comment about muggles thinking she was a creep. Avery completely understood that. Ever since her muggle friend had died, Avery had never been able to make friends with another muggle. They were usually too afraid of her or were suspicious of her when she accidentally let something slip. "I know the feeling of muggles thinking you're a creep. My muggle friend was the only muggle that actually spoke to me. All the other muggles were too afraid of me if I accidentally let something about magic slip. Also, it's okay that I left Swansea. Though I do want to go back. I think someday, maybe once I graduate Hogwarts, I'll go home to be with my family again. That would be amazing!" Avery smiled and gratefully took the piece of chocolate offered to her. She loved chocolate! It was probably her favorite treat that her father used to get for her. "Thanks so much! This is delicious!" Avery commented. When Lyanna handed Avery her book, Avery quivered with excitement. She was super excited to get to read a new book. This was a feeling that she always got whenever she picked up a new book. Excitement beyond words. "Thanks so much! I can't wait to read it! I also love to re-read books that I've read before and loved!" Avery smiled again at Lyanna. She was forever grateful to her, and wished she could give her something. "Hey, out of curiosity, what house do you think you'll be sorted into?"
